To be seemingly the only one at work tomorrow

Apart from me and and my other NHS colleagues, all of my friends seem to be off work tomorrow, teachers, retail workers, office workers.
Please tell me that there's someone else at work keeping the country running?!

University lecturer and, yes, I'll be working most of the day. It's a BH, we've been given the day off, but there no way pre-term work that needs doing is going to get done otherwise.

PonyPatter44 · 18/09/2022 16:33

Prison officers are all still working tomorrow. I've been in work today, because it was the only way to get 5 hours of peace and quiet to get a complex piece of work done.

Furrydogmum · 18/09/2022 16:38

I work in education so I'm off, DH could either take it off paid, or go in and take a lieu day within 90 days..

worriedatthistime · 18/09/2022 16:41

Supermarkets are open again later etc

Ffsmakeitstop · 18/09/2022 16:44

I'm working in a food shop. Be good to get things done without customers and having to do 2 jobs at once.
I could have booked it off but I want to take my leave when it suits me. Absolutely no interest in a stranger's funeral.

NumptiesIncorporated · 18/09/2022 16:46

I don't work on a Monday anyway, but plenty of people going on to my work. (Retail) and my son is working (IT).

deveronvalley · 18/09/2022 16:49

Husband and I have our own small business (training company), 6 people coming for a 5 day course starting tomorrow, organised months ago. If we closed, the whole week would be cancelled. They still want to come (most travelling from England to NE Scotland, they’ve taken time off to attend, booked accommodation etc) and we certainly don’t want to cancel a week of work. Going to close for a few hours to allow them to go and watch the funeral if they choose to. I’ll be popping in to work briefly but then working from home and supervising child.

Ffsmakeitstop · 18/09/2022 16:50

friend was posting about how she hoped all the anti-monarchists would be working, not enjoying the holiday.
I'm anti-monarchy and I am more than happy to be working and to save m annual leave for when I actually want it and not when the state dictates.
If your friend is a royalist hopefully she won't actually be "enjoying" the day.

Piggypiggyoinkoink · 18/09/2022 16:51

There are 5 of us at work tomorrow in our department. We get to take the day another time. I could have been off (surprisingly no pressure from management either way), but would prefer to have the chance to clear backlog while it’s quiet.

MumofSpud · 18/09/2022 16:54

My DD is working at her p/t job tomorrow- a food place in Windsor - in fact they have extra staff in!

ConfusedDottComm · 18/09/2022 16:54

I bloody hate this saying so please forgive me ladies and gents - As an essential worker who had to travel to work everyday through the pandemic, who couldn't possibly be furloughed or work from home at all as we were so essential, I am OFF tomorrow! Essential my foot ehh.

Abraxan · 18/09/2022 16:55

Neither me or Dh are at work as we both get bank holidays as additional holidays. I teach and Dh is a solicitor.
We will both work at home as both have a lot on and have been moving Dd into her university house today, so will do what we often do on a Sunday afternoon tomorrow instead.

KhaleesiOfChaos · 18/09/2022 16:57

@girlmom21 You should be able to claim your day back if your workplace is closed due to the bank holiday.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/09/2022 16:57

About half a dozen of us (media start up) are - just too much going on, my self employed sister is too.

Catlitterqueen · 18/09/2022 16:58

I don’t work Monday anyway but our shop will be shut as we’ve done a quick poll of our neighbours and the rest of the street will be closed.

Noteverybodylives · 18/09/2022 15:49

I’m a teacher so not required to work tomorrow but I have a lot of work to do, so I’ve chosen to do it tomorrow which will free up some of my evenings/weekends.

@Noteverybodylives this is exactly my plan!! I'm behind already with the start of the term so I'm looking at it as a catch up point!

@ConfusedDottComm well you could say that about teachers, GPS, surgeons then! We were all essential in lockdown but can have tomorrow off!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/09/2022 17:03

Are you the Archbishop of Canterbury?

Waitingaround · 18/09/2022 17:04

Working in the NHS. We are running service as normal.

SocksAndTheCity · 18/09/2022 17:06

I'm volunteering rather than working, but I'll be in tomorrow (food charity) Smile

Tumbleweed101 · 18/09/2022 17:09

I'm working. Usually I have bank holidays off but my boss decided it was too short notice for our parents to get alternative childcare so we are open for keyworker children.

itsthesoundofthepolice · 18/09/2022 17:16

I'll be will DH, emergency service working sucks.
Tomorrow is supposed to be my day off but that's been scuppered.

not working.
my work is closed and my dh’s business (his own) is closed. We are going to watch the funeral and do some sorting out after!

KatherineJaneway · 18/09/2022 17:19

I'm not working tomorrow. My job is important but not vital to the running of the country.

NiceTwin · 18/09/2022 17:19

I work with animals, everyday is the same, no bank holidays in this house!
