To hope that this is the end of Holly & Phil on This Morning?

Absolute backlash on Twitter as it emerges that Holly & Phill queue jumped to see the queen at her lying in state. Lots of comparisons to Beckham and memes about we skip any queues.

The This Morning office has put out a statement saying they are attending in their capacity as broadcasters.AIBU to hope that this is the end of shrieky Holly and slimey twat Phil?

I've never seen them on This Morning. Haven't watched Phil since broom cupboard days. However, I'm assuming that their employer (ITV) required them to attend, rather than it being personal choice? Imagine if your employer said it was company policy that everyone attend? If my employer required me to attend, I would expect them to facilitate things.

kateandme · 18/09/2022 07:20

Bring on dormot doing more please.
I like thi mixes.
Craig Doyle's been great.abd Jodie and Alison.they all bring something a bit different.their take on things from differing angles.
All though Rochelle seems a little socially gullible at times.the way she been sucked in by Camilla, talked on weight etc but that just how she's lived I think.

As Adam Hills said

There's apparently a sub-set people out there who adore the royal family but don't like it when rich, privileged people get special treatment."

@LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana I can imagine her on coke.

It still hasn't given her much of a personality

torquewench · 18/09/2022 07:32

I'm glad I work FT so can't watch smug Phil and drippy Holly.

TidyDancer · 18/09/2022 07:41

Eamonn and Ruth must be loving this.

It'll be interesting to see what this so-called filming they were supposed to be doing for This Morning was actually about, I can't see any real justification for it. And the ITV statement was a load of bollocks since it tried to claim they didn't file past the coffin which we clearly know they did.

I'm not a fan of cancel culture in general but I do think this is such a huge PR disaster that it will take a very long time to recover from (if indeed it can be rowed back). It's bringing out a lot of stories about how objectionable the pair of them are which is usually what ends up causing more trouble in the long run.

Even if you didn't work FT, it's not mandatory viewing!

carrotsandpeaass · 18/09/2022 07:43

I bet This Morning are desperately trying to pull something substantial together to show on Tuesday's show to justify why they were there as 'part of the worlds media'.

It's bullshit.

ITV have plenty of broadcasters and reporters whose actual job it is to be reporting on this story, and will be camped out 24/7 collating footage and interviews.

What do Phil and Holly need to be in the broadcasters area for? This Morning is a magazine programme that's not fully focused on the news, it's mostly showbiz, fashion, lifestyle, competitions etc, with a little bit of news thrown in.

Susanna Reid would be more appropriate to be in the press area as she presents a news programme but she queued for hours!

FeetupTvon · 18/09/2022 07:43

They should both bore off… sick of the sight of them.

Beckham doing whatever it takes to get that Knighthood!

This is the problem.

one person queues and get criticised as only doing it for attention.

another jumps the queue and gets criticised for not queuing.

these people can’t win either way.

Nomorefuckstogive · 18/09/2022 07:44

I like Beckham, but let’s not be naive enough to think he didn’t do this to raise his profile and cement his role as ‘national treasure’ (along with future awards and accolades this may bring.) He’s extremely career focused. Nice guy, I’m sure he cheered up a lot of people, but ultimately he does things to make himself feel and look good.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 18/09/2022 07:46

@carrotsandpeaass I might watch it on Tuesday morning just to see them squirm

Me too, and I never watch it!! Lol their viewing figures might end up good but for all the wrong reasons- wonder if they’ll address it??

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 18/09/2022 07:48

The bitterness against beckham is pathetic.

Reality is that there was no way the media weren’t going to pick up on his being in the queue. We live in an age that as soon as someone recognised him it would have been all over social media and the press would have picked up on it. So perhaps he shouldn’t have queued at all.

I know several people who have met him IRL and say he is a genuinely nice person.

I also know people who have met Rylan (SP? Who say he is an absolute arsehole. Reality is we know absolutely nothing about some of these people other than what the media want us to see, or social media want us to think.

SudocremOnEverything · 18/09/2022 07:49

I actually think the producers at this morning fucked up here. They should have realised that their viewers actually wanted to see 15 hours of holly and Phil in the queue with everyone else. Not a TV version of that.

Roomytrouser · 18/09/2022 00:11

Who watches them? I know someone must but I know not a soul who does - WFH, SAHM, retired, nope. There must be loads of people out there but the time they are on seems to me to be a really inconvenient time of the day to watch TV. Are they big on “catch up” tv?

I wondered this too.

MsMiaWallace · 18/09/2022 07:52

HW & PS are far too wrapped up in the inbred team ITV. they're very well protected

Beckham doing whatever it takes to get that Knighthood!

He should already have one. He’s a more deserving than many who already have.

You can’t call the honours decision makers (and by implication the Queen and PM) the c-word and then ‘deserve’ a knighthood.

WildfellAnne · 18/09/2022 07:53

They were in the press queue -that’s not been hidden. They had lanyards, which they didn’t hide. No one would have thought they would queue, surely.

And if he hadn’t queued and jumped it then you’d be here calling him a privileged twat. What’s he meant to do to please you?

Devo1818 · 18/09/2022 07:54

I don't think Holly and Phil actually did anything wrong. They showed up to work and told - stand here and do this for a TV segment. I don't know how long it takes ITV to film a segment normally but I imagine they didn't have time to queue.

I absolutely love David Beckham and have so much respect for him queueing. But it is a different situation.

Like a PP said, it is the fault of the producers who planned the segment. But even then, difficult to foresee the backlash. The timing with Beckham was unfortunate.

This sums it up really well. H and P and the TM producers have really fucked out here. Never take the British public for mugs!
