To hope that this is the end of Holly & Phil on This Morning?

Absolute backlash on Twitter as it emerges that Holly & Phill queue jumped to see the queen at her lying in state. Lots of comparisons to Beckham and memes about we skip any queues.

The This Morning office has put out a statement saying they are attending in their capacity as broadcasters.AIBU to hope that this is the end of shrieky Holly and slimey twat Phil?

Also how long was the priority queue? Presumably not even as long as the accessibility queue given it never reached capacity which shows that very few celebs felt the need to be given priority….

I like Beckham, but let’s not be naive enough to think he didn’t do this to raise his profile and cement his role as ‘national treasure’ (along with future awards and accolades this may bring.) He’s extremely career focused. Nice guy, I’m sure he cheered up a lot of people, but ultimately he does things to make himself feel and look good.

He does things to make himself feel good? Well, yeah. Don't we all? What's he supposed to do - wear a hairshirt?

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 18/09/2022 07:58

As much as I don’t particularly like them, there really isn’t likely to be a major backlash against this morning over this. In fact it’s likely that the backlash on twitter has been started by the producers to make sure they get a higher viewing, which is guaranteed.

If the energy bills competition hasn’t had any impact, then queueing to see the queen in state absolutely won’t have. The kind of people who dislike Philip and Holly won’t care enough really but will watch enough to increase the viewing figures, and the kind of people who watch this morning don’t care anyway.

Phil I don’t mind as he’s pretty ancient. He’d probably faint if he had to stand for more than a couple of hours. Holly is young and physically fit, she should have been in a the queue.

Is this sarcasm? I would love to know.

MeridianB · 18/09/2022 08:03

Shame this lets Holly off the hook

I'm glad I work FT so can't watch smug Phil and drippy Holly.

Of course you can, haven't you heard of catch up TV. Tbh your post comes off as smug

I'm not on Twitter so might not be doing it right, what is he actually saying? That P and H did get special treatment or they didnt?

Prescottdanni123 · 18/09/2022 08:11

They were doing it as a form of journalism. It makes sense that they were allowed to skip the queue based on that. Beckham was there for personal reasons. I highly doubt this will be the end of them. Haters are always loud on social media.

MeridianB · 18/09/2022 07:54

This sums it up really well. H and P and the TM producers have really fucked out here. Never take the British public for mugs!

I think this is the issue, everyone knows the press will be there, we can all watch the live stream 24hrs a day if we want to, I can’t figure of what segment they think they need that involves them being where they were?

The human interest story is the people, everyone’s talking to the people as they queue, what about getting peoples reactions/experiences as they leave? Where are they going now, have they got out of going what they wanted to? Where are the people who walked through during the vigils, how did that make them feel?

Its such a cross section of society, that’s the story & the producers have totally missed the mark.

torquewench · 18/09/2022 08:12

And yours comes off as patronising, hun.

No, I live in a cave and have never heard of catch up Hmm

Why on earth would anyone feel "smug" about the fact they can't watch crappy daytime TV? I think "relieved" is nearer the mark ...

He's late 50s, maybe 60. or similar isn't he? Hardly ancient!

Weirdwonders · 18/09/2022 08:13

I couldn’t care less. People in this country don’t half get preoccupied by the most utterly irrelevant shite. Talk about bread and circuses.

Glamorgans · 18/09/2022 08:14

My friend works with them on the show, he's said they're awful to work with.

They're entitled, belittling of guests behind their backs and generally just divas. They're rude to the crew. The other presenters are lovely though.

He’s extremely career focused. Nice guy, I’m sure he cheered up a lot of people, but ultimately he does things to make himself feel and look good.

By all accounts he did nothing to draw attention to himself. He can't help he was recognised and if he had denied who he was or refused to be in someone's photos he'd be accused of being up himself. And if he jumped the queue he'd be accused of all sorts. Can't win.

As for doing it to look good and feel good about himself that's what loads of people in the queue are doing. To be able to feel important and have a story to tell.

The Adam Hills quote really does get to the absurdity of it. Queueing for hours to see someone just because they were privileged and pretending there aren't degrees of privilege that allow some other people to jump that queue. Madness.

I'm not sure David Beckham really needs to do anything to raise his profile does he/?
I mean he's pretty well known across the whole world, let alone for queuing overnight to view the queen's,coffin, I'm not sure the latter will make any different to that!

ToastofLandon · 18/09/2022 08:23

Don’t give a shiny shit to be honest and don’t understand the backlash. I’m not a fan of Holly and Phil by any means, but let’s not pretend any of us would pass up the opportunity to skip the queue if we could.

They got special treatment away from other journalists.

It will be interesting to see what special report / story they actually show on TM, as the TM statement says they were there for that.

I will be relying on MN to tell me since I can't ever bring myself to watch anything with these two on

HarpicHarpy · 18/09/2022 08:36

I'm surprised Beckham didn't get mobbed while waiting in the queue. Did he have security with him?

Likeimaliveagain · 18/09/2022 08:42

So hope it would be the end of them, but unfortunately, I doubt it.
Phil was saved by covid as the amount going around about him was off the scale, he sounds an awful person who many didn’t/don’t like due to the way he treats other staff etc and his treatment of this young lad. Ruth and Rylan were apparently ones standing up against it and since then, Rylans never on This morning and gradually Ruth & Eamons hours were cut right back.
Convinced Phil has something on the producers and/or it’s just too expensive to get rid of him. Holly’s husband is an itv producer or something? All so very unfair.
So many people don’t like them/their presenting, but they’ve still not gone 🤷🏻‍♀️
During summer when Ruth & Rylan presented, viewers were calling & writing in apparently to keep them on more and to get rid of P&H
Ruth & Eamon were the best, Rylan ok, Alison is nice and Josie and Vernon is good.

I’m sure I saw a pic of him in the queue surrounded by about 4 policemen.

MsMiaWallace · 18/09/2022 08:47

Surely it would have been better coverage if they waited in the que with everyone else.
Media piece wearing a face mask?
Give me a break.
They took advantage.

vera99 · 18/09/2022 08:49

I don't know what's more ridiculous now The Queue or the whipped-up synthetic anger about whether Z-list "journalists" 'jumped' said queue. As a natural contrarian, I'm buying emotional shares in them both now. This is absolutely nuts.

Here's some more petrol for your fire !

Who watches them? I know someone must but I know not a soul who does - WFH, SAHM, retired, nope. There must be loads of people out there but the time they are on seems to me to be a really inconvenient time of the day to watch TV. Are they big on “catch up” tv?

I'm retired but never watch them. Only watched it years ago when off on sick leave a few times
