To hope that this is the end of Holly & Phil on This Morning?

Absolute backlash on Twitter as it emerges that Holly & Phill queue jumped to see the queen at her lying in state. Lots of comparisons to Beckham and memes about we skip any queues.

The This Morning office has put out a statement saying they are attending in their capacity as broadcasters.AIBU to hope that this is the end of shrieky Holly and slimey twat Phil?

Who watches them? I know someone must but I know not a soul who does - WFH, SAHM, retired, nope. There must be loads of people out there but the time they are on seems to me to be a really inconvenient time of the day to watch TV. Are they big on “catch up” tv?

Discovereads · 18/09/2022 00:15

Phil I don’t mind as he’s pretty ancient. He’d probably faint if he had to stand for more than a couple of hours. Holly is young and physically fit, she should have been in a the queue.

I've more than one colleague who records it daily to watch when they get home from work. It would bend my mind to watch a daytime show in the evening, regardless of its quality or lack thereof. Takes all kinds, I guess.

DillDanding · 18/09/2022 00:16

I think This Morning is much better without Holly and Philip.

I wfh so always have it on in the background.

twilightermummy · 18/09/2022 00:16

Schofield is my most hated celebrity and I’m sure a lot will come out on him eventually. I’ve always wondered whether he’s in such a financial tie with ITV that it’d be too costly to get rid of him.

He really got away with the “coming out” story. I think it was in the middle of the pandemic perhaps, or some bigger story that protected him. The whole young runner thing seemed to be swept under the umbrella of bravery.

Anyway, I have rambled but I hope that this is one more nail in the coffin for him/them. What’s interesting is that when the story first broke, I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that they had waited in the long queues with the crowds so I imagine they didn’t get the spin on it that they wanted.

Blinky21
Beckham doing whatever it takes to get that Knighthood!

He should already have one. He’s a more deserving than many who already have.

I agree. But apparently it’s athletes who compete solo who get them instead of the ones who compete with a team.

I admit I watch this morning. I’m a sahm. I enjoy it. But it’s more the programme itself rather than who is presenting it. I like the light hearted, magazine type content.

They shouldn’t have jumped the queue. Terrible of them.

He did , an MP offered to get him in as one of their guests but he declined .

I like that about him.

(words I never thought I'd say)

Pretty ancient? Come off it.

We’re not that lucky!

I don't get it either. I work p/t, had long maternity leaves, was a student but have never watched TM or know anyone who does.

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2022 00:39

I think it should be the end of This Morning. Get something new on altogether. Every show is the same. (Ditch Lorraine too, and get something good on from 9am)

ScoobyDoNot · 18/09/2022 00:40

Susanna Reid didn't use a press pass. She queued with her mother for 7ish hours I think, and then headed straight to Bill Turnbull's funeral!

Flux1 · 18/09/2022 00:41

I thought it was a bit odd that Holly was wearing a face mask. Was she afraid of catching something from the general public, or afraid she might laugh inappropriately she tends to do...

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2022 00:41

It's official. 60 is 'pretty ancient'. The Queen did really well in that case...

What have I been reading?

Mogginsthemog · 18/09/2022 00:45

Why would it result in a Backlash? They're celebrities, they get free passes to all manner of events. Did you not realise this?

And why do you care?

I wonder if they’d caught wind of the reaction/vibe of the people they’d passed and it was more about being afraid she was spotted.

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2022 00:49

This is part of the statement from This Morning so no filing past the Queen?

'They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state - but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the world's media to report on the event.'

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/09/2022 00:53

Not if public opinion really turns against them, this is really the biggest news story at the moment, to have caused such a backlash may well stick in the long run even if it’s not immediately.

There's a WAR going on. Mass graves and the Geneva Convention being thrown out by the Russians. Nuclear power plants being fought around. And that's just ONE story that's more important.

FFS.

Marcipex · 18/09/2022 00:53

Holly and Phillip didn’t jump the queue. What a fuss about nothing.
They are excellent on This Morning and most of the other presenters, except Ruth&Rylan , have been dire. Bellowing fake laughter and shrill talking over the guests.

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 18/09/2022 00:58

Not if public opinion really turns against them, this is really the biggest news story at the moment, to have caused such a backlash may well stick in the long run even if it’s not immediately. while this morning aren’t reading the room very well at the moment, this isn’t actually a news story at all other than on social media.

DarkDarkNight · 18/09/2022 01:00

They’re awful, I find them so fake and hate the ‘morning after the night before’ routine after the NTAs, it’s so unprofessional. The energy bill prize was so crass and this doesn’t look great no matter how ITV try to spin it. A lot of people are tired of them, they’re not the golden tv couple they once were.

On a side note David Beckham is ageing like a fine wine.
