To go to the Queue in London in my wedding dress?

I'm not getting married tomorrow but I married earlier this summer, the dress has so many special memories for me and I would love to wear it to honour Her Majesty.

What do you honestly think?

You can’t genuinely think wearing a wedding dress to anything related to a death ‘honours’ anyone, surely? Wearing a wedding dress to anything other than a wedding is odd anyway, but wearing it to a monarch lying in state is beyond crass.

If it was someone you knew, wearing something that was in some way meaningful to them is one way to show appreciation. Otherwise, appropriate respectful dress is smart and subdued and not in any way flamboyant, unless the person enjoyed or requested that. I’m certain Queen Elizabeth would be appalled, frankly. Rightly or wrongly, class means dressing appropriately for an occasion, and she always did, in a conservative way. I suspect you’d be positively shunned and likely heckled. Certainly laughed at.

Funerals are difficult to dress for, especially in winter. Looking smart and as though one has made an effort, but not over-dressed, sexy, attention seeking or office-ey without being frumpy is bloody hard in my opinion. However, for all the ‘invisible’ rules and pitfalls, surely anybody can see a wedding dress is ridiculously beyond the pale!

Fixyourself · 18/09/2022 09:15

What happened in your life to make you this attention seeking?

Suzi9989 · 18/09/2022 09:16

Is it a typical big wedding dress or something you could wear day to day? Pls be respectful 🙏🏼

Spanielsarepainless · 18/09/2022 09:17

Sounds unpleasantly attention-seeking to me.

vera99 · 18/09/2022 09:18

A Paddington Bear costume with a black armband would be more appropriate.

LouisCatorze · 18/09/2022 09:22

it would be entirely reasonable to do it, had you got married yesterday and went straight from your wedding to join the queue to pay your respects. Otherwise, just no. It looks as if it then is all about you (not a good look).

Flyinggeesei234 · 18/09/2022 09:25

Why are people falling for this?

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 18/09/2022 09:25

I think you sound like the biggest twat

VerbenaGirl · 18/09/2022 09:26

It’s a totally bonkers idea.

AStar98 · 18/09/2022 09:27

Do it! Do it! Do it!

TheEggChair · 18/09/2022 09:28

Looks like the op never came back after having her arse handed back to her on this thread. I think you all did a good job in saving the op from making a public embarrassment of herself on national TV which was probably her intention anyway rather than paying her respects to the Queen

ItsJustLittleOlMe · 18/09/2022 09:31

People will think you're a loon.

Applecustard35 · 18/09/2022 09:31

Yeah do that OP and everyone is going to think “look at that utter twat” 🙄

Nottidaythanks · 18/09/2022 09:32

butterfliedtwo · 17/09/2022 23:03

People hsve gone completely mad.

OP doing this is the least mad thing about this embarrassingly over the top whole funeral week.

wellhelloitsme · 18/09/2022 09:35

If someone did this they may as well be dressed in a t shirt saying "I want to be on TV". Cringing at how attention seeking this is.

NotMyDust · 18/09/2022 09:37

maybe getting the queue to do the world's longest conga wasn't such a bad idea after all.

ArseMenagerie · 18/09/2022 09:38

I’m at the Great British Queue right now* handing out marmalade sandwiches, defibrillators and Harrod’s blankets. I think a wedding dress would fit right in, it’s a lovely atmosphere! Gyles Brandreth has just orated a poem and we’re all mucking in to take turns in a separate queue to talk to the press about the lovely people we’ve met in the queue.

*im not

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 18/09/2022 09:50

I wish this post wasn't a wind-up and such an attention seeking knobhead did spend 12hours queuing only to be turned away at the door for inappropriate dress!

Helendee · 18/09/2022 09:52

Attention seeking!
It’s about the Queen, not you.

vera99 · 18/09/2022 10:00

@ArseMenagerie that's the spirit! I think it's vile that those with unearned privilege jump the queue at an event commemorating unearned privilege.

FredrikaPeri · 18/09/2022 10:01

🤣🤣🤣

vera99 · 18/09/2022 10:09

Oops, wrong thread it was the Holly and Phil pile-on. Have to say the best wind-up post I've seen on here - she should have stayed around and turned it into an AMA from the queue. A hit-and-run dump do😂esn't really mine the potential.

queenMab99 · 18/09/2022 10:13

Very 'ex and shoff',
Teddy Robinson speak, for excited and showing off, used for 40 years in my family to describe self centered children, but I can't think of a better description of someone doing this!

RisingSunn · 18/09/2022 10:13

You would look like you were just trying to get in the papers…

Sally090807 · 18/09/2022 10:23

CarpeVitam · 17/09/2022 23:02

Attention seeking or what! 🙄
