Tradesperson inviting people into my home

IvyPlant · 17/09/2022 17:03

Currently got a tradesperson in to do a job. They quoted me a day rate of 8 days work (which I think will take less time than that, but they're the expert...)

Anyway, that's not my AIBU. I checked my security footage this week and noticed a woman popped round to my house when I was out and tradesperson was working alone in my house. I can only see her walk past my front door to the back garden gate, she knocks and then the feed ends. She's seen leaving 4 hours later. The next day, same thing, except 3 hours.

At present the tradesperson gets here for about 8am and has already stopped working by 3pm. So that's 7 hours of work, fair enough, but 4 (and 3) of them an unknown woman here is (it's not his wife, I did a little social media digging and it's not her).

AIBU if I question him about it next week? He still has 4 days left to finish the job next week and I don't l like the fact there's an unknown and univited person in my house when I'm not there, plus, how much work can he really be doing if his "mate" is there for 4 hours.

Could she be from building regs?

Not for electrics.
And 4 hours? She'd be very thorough, the council would go broke!

AdriannaP · 18/09/2022 08:13

Please report back on Tuesday! Can’t wait

I reckon it's his mistress, she stays and talks while he's working, they have a shag at some stage , possibly in the outbuildings, hence the gross pillow and blanket. I would either get someone to hide upstairs in one of the bedrooms and then come down and catch them together, or get back much earlier than you told him, leaving car(if you drive ) around corner so he doesn't hear / see you coming home.

This thread is SO going to show up on DM.

I used to have a friend who worked in a real estate agnecy. She was shagging her married boss using client homes when they were out.

I suppose at least if they are using that poxy little cushion and icky blanket they are not spilling anything on your nice sofa.

[In other words... placemarking..... ]

Flutterbybudget · 18/09/2022 08:37

Loving the thread

just want to point out that there is no law against having a camera in your bedroom 🤷‍♀️
Must admit that I couldn’t care less if he was having in my shed/ downstairs loo, but I’d draw the line at my bed!
amd yes, don’t pay him for time that he’s not actually working

hopeishere · 18/09/2022 08:37

Shameless placemark!

Sswhinesthebest · 18/09/2022 08:38

I’d be more concerned he was using his throw to cover your sofa or bed, to do the dirty deed.

Tell him you or your dh will be popping back early on Tuesday

And do the same again every day until the work is done

IvyPlant · 18/09/2022 08:41

Okay, I felt the need to jump back on to say he's definitely not having his way on my bed. My bed is meticulously made and it's just as well made on my return.

I do have a really long (200ft) long garden which is really private. I reckon the nicest place would be right at the end of the garden, it's like a little meadow.

goodness, what a very silly man.

MeridianB · 18/09/2022 08:42

I’d feel so uncomfortable with him inviting someone into my home, and the worry that they would be going through my things. Plus their attempts to dodge the camera. Plus him very deliberately building his bonking time into your job. It paints him in a really horrible light. He’s really abused your trust.

For these reasons, I’d ask him not to come back. But if you want to avoid deniability then could you come home early after the blonde has arrived on Tuesday and confront him.

This is just the kind of thread that ends up in dm. I’d remove the photos.

The obvious answer is often correct - they are knobbing.

I'd sack him, you've no option really. He won't kick up a fuss as won't want you to tell his wife.

I love that word … knobbing haven’t heard that in ages made me chuckle .

but yeah totally getting it on, 3-4 hours at a time. That’s a long time for a ‘friend’ to pop by. 20 minute cuppa fair enough but hours … in an outbuilding . Sounds the working of a steamy romance novel

Omg guys! My most popular thread on MN and all it took was an electrician and his fluffy blanket.

I couldn't sleep last night and went through the video footage again a little more closely. On one of the days the woman arrives, her hair is in a bun. When she is caught on the camera leaving hours later, her hair is mysteriously in a ponytail.

She also walks right up close to the next door neighbour's property, trying to purposely avoid the camera and potentially look as though she didn't come from my bank garden. She's looking straight ahead in the hopes the camera won't get her face (as the is looking out on a side view). Plus she completely ignores the electrician standing in front of the camera (in his attempt to block the view of her leaving but fails as it's a wide lens). When she makes it to the main road, he stops faffing in front of the camera and walks up after her. It's at this point the camera picks up a little dialogue between the pair, it's pretty muffled but I can hear her telling him she doesn't want to get a ticket. She arrived by car (I can see her car key in her hand when she's walking) which I think is parked on private land across the road.

Plus, to answer some questions: no I haven't paid yet. It's on completion of the job.

He's quoted me for 8 days work and is charging on a day rate.

Yes I did spend £100 English pounds on recording equipment and I'd damn well do it again.

No I won't be blackmailing him, it's a criminal offence.

If I find out she's been here again or see he has been doing less work than claiming for, I'll be discussing it with him directly upon completion of job and when he issues his invoice.

"it's pretty muffled but I can hear her telling him she doesn't want to get a ticket."

Tuesday morning - "did your friend managed to avoid getting a ticket after she left her last week"?

😁

Moveoverdarlin · 18/09/2022 09:07

Whilst I can see the funny side, I’d also be fuming that you’re paying this man to basically sh@g his bit on the side on your property. When he hands you the invoice or talks about money I would just say ‘I’m deducting 4 hours on Tuesday and 3 hours on weds for the time you had your bit on the side round. That ok? I’m fairly easy going but paying for you to get your end away is taking the piss. I’m pleased with the work you have done but that doorbell gave you away’. If he gets funny, mention his wife. You’re perfectly within your right to do this. He’s taking you for a mug. You just need to work out his hourly rate from his day rate. Have your partner in the house when you do this.

Zonder · 18/09/2022 09:08

Tuesday morning - "did your friend managed to avoid getting a ticket after she left her last week"?

This!

Plus I would be refusing to pay for 8 days since at least two of those days were half work half pleasure! You could even suggest charging him for use of your home!

Out of interest, can anyone guess this celebrity based on the attached photo?
