Campervan parked in front of my garage

I own a garage that's on the next side street to where I live. We don't put our cars in it because it's used to store things. My husband's things mostly. Our aim is to clear it out so we can put one of our cars in it. My husband sometimes puts his car in front of the garage. Anyway there is an absolutely enormous campervan parked in front of our garage. Its parked so close up to the garage doors that we couldn't go in the garage at all. And obviously prevents us from parking in front of it. They tried to park there on Monday but my husband stopped them. No idea who they are but my husband works nights so not here.

Cheeky fuckers. I’d say clamp it but apparently that’s not legal. You can charge them apparently and give them a ticket! You need to make a contract

WagnersFourthSymphony · 15/09/2022 14:53

Gobsmacking that 5% reckon the OP is BU. We've heard @a1poshpaws' 'reasoning'. Does anyone else want to explain why OP should be denied access to her own garage? It's not even as if the offender left a contact number in the windscreen, though even that is CF behaviour unless it's a real emergency that caused them to park there.

Highlighta · 15/09/2022 15:23

I think everyone should have possession of a valve tool, for these sorts of issues.

Letting air out of a tyre without damaging it isn't an offence..... Or is it? 🤭

Just let a little air out each day. They will need to move it to top up the air. If it comes back, just carry on.

I am petty I know. It takes some time so it's not immediate, but it's discreet....

Although I hope by now your dh has spoken to the neighbour.

Anamechangeisasgoodasarest · 15/09/2022 15:25

Put a note on the campervan, saying if they don’t remove it you will be opening the garage door damaging their precious camper. Cheeky fuckers.

@Lovemusic33

But it is not a campervan

Read the update.

I would actually clamp it, then when they kick off say “Oh dear, my husband is away and before he went he told me that a friend of his would be parking here and I was to put the clamp on. I just assumed this was his vehicle, never gave it a thought that anyone would just assume they can park on our land”

Then the police will be called, you’ll be prosecuted and the van will still be there as the police have no power to move them on.

Yes it is an offense.

Going flat puts the weight of the car through the metal rim on the soft rubber and damages a tyre.

No you dont have to move to pump up a tire, you legally CAN'T move with a flat so no idea how you think they are moving around. Logically they will just pump it back up unless the rubber is distroyed in which case they will need to jack it up and change it and could sue you for damage if they can get proof you did it.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 15/09/2022 18:09

Gosh it would be so unfortunate if someone dressed all in black with a balaclava completely vandalised the vehicle in the middle of the night. What a shame, oh well, guess they might to find a more secure spot to abandon it.

Sh05 · 15/09/2022 18:30

Vaseline on the wipers. Won't make them move but hopefully they'll think twice before leaving it there again.
Actually if it is your neighbors just knock on their door and ask them to move it.

Weald56 · 15/09/2022 18:31

I once (this is a long time ago) had an old car parked in front of my (then) garage, which was in a block near my house. I need to go out, but it was blocking me in. Luckily it wasn't locked, so I took the hand break off and moved it forward until I could get my car out. Later (next day or two) I happened to see a police officer looking at it - she said it was stolen 'from London' (some 40 miles away and didn't know when not would be collected. She wasn't amused when I told her I'd pushed it to get my car out! But she wasn't going to move it, and in fact it was there for a while, so I was happy to have done the best thing (for me).

So, if I found a car left in front of my garage, I'd do the same again if possible. For nomoremoinecraftplease I'd suggest pinning an 'invoice' on her car for parking, and blocking her van in with your car until she pays it!

I'm one of the tiny minority who voted YABU. I did so because I got the strong impression from your OP that you and your husband have some vague plan to clear the garage at some indeterminate date so that you can actually park a car in it.

Since you're not needing to get a car in and out just now, and don't sound like you're actively in and out doing the clearing at the present time, then it seems to be that you're being rather petty - "it's my ball and you're not playing" sort of style.

If I've got it wrong, I apologise.

It is their property, they can't access their garage, why should complete strangers park there without permission? Are you throwing your property open to random vehicles?

Lesserspotteddogfish · 15/09/2022 19:46

What is it about your garage that attracts various campervans? Odd to have two different ones within days unless they are both connected to the same neighbour.

Boreded · 15/09/2022 19:49

Nomoreminecraftplease · 14/09/2022 20:27

My husband told her to move it on Monday. He doesn't know she is. She argued with him but did move it. Now its back again!

Block it in for a couple of days

Laurie000 · 15/09/2022 20:04

Put a ‘NO PARKING! 24hr ACCESS REQUIRED!’ sign on your garage. Maybe also add a sign saying ‘VEHICLES BLOCKING ACCESS ARE AT RISK OF BEING TOWED’

MarsupiIami · 15/09/2022 20:12

I got my hopes up for a retractable penguin bollard and couldn't see it @TheEggChair - it was a long list, did I scroll past it?

saleorbouy · 15/09/2022 20:39

Leave a note for the owner and let them know that they are parked on private land and need access to the garage but if they are require a parking space they can contact you for a rental agreement otherwise they will be removed next time.

I’d be ringing the police and giving them the reg. They'll contact the owner.

TheCatterall · 15/09/2022 21:19

If it’s private land that you own or rent in front of your garage - I’d be getting a wheel lock on the front tyre especially as they’ve already been warned. But then I’m petty like that. Leave husbands number on a note. Remove it after they contact you - let them wait. Make it clear that will happen every time they restrict you from accessing your garage.

CelestiaNoctis · 15/09/2022 23:09

Leave a warning note that it will be towed on X date and then pay to get it towed 🤷‍♀️. Then put something up like a bollard that can be lowered so no one can park there again.

Autumn61 · 16/09/2022 01:01

It’s parked in front of their garage which they can’t gain access to.So same to assume it’s there ground otherwise why have a garage there ????

TinselTinsel · 16/09/2022 02:09

TheIoWfairy · 14/09/2022 20:52

Please block it in. I think it might belong to my neighbors whose campervan, which usually blocks their own drive, has been mysteriously absent this week.
I prefer my front garden without their van next door.

I'm jealous that your neighbour has moved theirs but my neighbous campervan is still right in front of my living room window , as it has been for 6 months.
I am trying to be very patient but i wish they'd move the heap of junk so I can be a nosey neighbour again 😂

ThisUserNameIsAvailableOk · 16/09/2022 02:38

"Move your damn van! Who do you think you are?!"

Van Damme is all can hear. I'd get the giggles if you shouted that at me. Sorry 🤣

Bleachmycloths · 16/09/2022 06:43

Why don’t you park your own in front of it?

Oh well, that's me told then.... (and it's a tyre)

😂

Next I'll be told off for doing the chewing gum thing....

You can’t just have a car towed from private land, it doesn’t work like that.
