Campervan parked in front of my garage

I own a garage that's on the next side street to where I live. We don't put our cars in it because it's used to store things. My husband's things mostly. Our aim is to clear it out so we can put one of our cars in it. My husband sometimes puts his car in front of the garage. Anyway there is an absolutely enormous campervan parked in front of our garage. Its parked so close up to the garage doors that we couldn't go in the garage at all. And obviously prevents us from parking in front of it. They tried to park there on Monday but my husband stopped them. No idea who they are but my husband works nights so not here.

Not exactly a driveway as its separate from and not in anyway attached to our house. Its on the next street

It’s common sense not to park in front of someone’s garage wherever it’s situated.
Put a note on their windscreen “ you are parked on private property and blocking access to my garage. If your vehicle is not moved it will be reported to the council as abandoned” And a sign on your garage “ private property. Garage in use 24/7. No trespassing on driveway”

ReluctantCourier · 14/09/2022 22:42

Keep popping ‘For Sale, £200’ on the windscreen with your number, I’m sure she’ll ring all in a panic

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 14/09/2022 22:53

🤔

Buy a wheel clamp and put it on, with a message on the windscreen informing them of the release fee!

Absolutely terrible advice. Do NOT do this.

There’s a website where people mark on a map places for ‘vanlifers’ (campervan trippers) to park for free. There are also websites where you can rent out your parking space to people for cash. Is it possible your neighbour has done something like these with your spot? Because two CFs in one day makes me wonder, especially with one being the neighbour.
Also this is a parking thread. You know the rules OP. Diagram required. 😁

Ah that’s quite cool. What is that?
and yes op could someone be renting out your space?

Sswhinesthebest · 14/09/2022 23:20

That’s really naughty!

This is genius.

I'm one of the tiny minority who voted YABU. I did so because I got the strong impression from your OP that you and your husband have some vague plan to clear the garage at some indeterminate date so that you can actually park a car in it.

Since you're not needing to get a car in and out just now, and don't sound like you're actively in and out doing the clearing at the present time, then it seems to be that you're being rather petty - "it's my ball and you're not playing" sort of style.

If I've got it wrong, I apologise.

Mamanyt · 14/09/2022 23:59

While I have no clue how such things are handled in GB, in MOST places here all you would need to do is contact local police, tell them that your property is being blocked, and they would have the van towed. Is that available for you?

WanderingDreamingSpires · 15/09/2022 00:16

In my borough, if someone is parked across your dropped kerb you can ring and get them towed.

Notatallanamechange · 15/09/2022 00:19

’Move your damn van! Who do you think you are?! This is a private route, all residents pay for it and also for a private company to tow illegally parked vehicles!’

(Works a charm on my tiny and genuinely privately owned street. The threat works.)

mumda · 15/09/2022 00:33

What's the deed say for the garage. it should give you a right to access which effectively means they can't park there

Is this a joke?

No one is obliged to let some interloping stranger park on private property, whether or not the property is in use at the moment.

Excellent idea.

"Free for transport" would be even better.

TheEggChair · 15/09/2022 01:59

Also check on the DVLA website if the MOT & taxes are still valid, if not then report them.

If you also want to take it up a level, you can report them to thd DVLA for medical fitness to drive. drivers medical fitness to drive test She then has to prove she's medically fit to drive or face being disqualified so that should shock her a bit.

TheEggChair · 15/09/2022 02:01

Get a retractable penguin bollard fitted on your garage driveway.

Round here there'd be a post on the local Facebook group before the handbrake was on!

Makes me roll my eyes, but it's surprisingly effective at shaming people into moving.

Obviously you include the number plate,
and the first 20 posts are people checking if it's got tax and MOT.

Extra points for showing the miniscule gap between vehicle and garage. Preferably with something incongruous for scale. Like a croissant.

Seriously though, is it just parked up or do you think they're sleeping in it?

I've never seen something so accurate. 😂

We had one recently and they measured the space between 2 bumpers with a 50p.

MrsFezziwig · 15/09/2022 02:30

I’m presuming that (as usual) no-one has read OP’s update.

silentpool · 15/09/2022 02:42

I think sometimes you have to deal firmly with CFs as if you overlook it, they will double down on their cheek. So hot hard and fast, OP! I like the idea of reporting it as abandoned.

If it doesn't belong to you, don't use it without asking permission first...simple!

StridTheKiller · 14/09/2022 20:29

Torch it.

Agreed!

Cervinia · 15/09/2022 06:56

I do think if people are taking the piss you need to get one of those posts On the parking bit and stick it up so they can’t park up.

Oysterbabe · 15/09/2022 07:01

You need to block it in. Park your car across the bottom of the drive, leave a note with your phone number on.

pompomdaisy · 15/09/2022 07:02

Is she living in it? Is it a tourist? Just say you are going to get her towed then put a barrier up if you don't want it to happen again

Iwanttogo · 15/09/2022 07:04

Nomoreminecraftplease · 14/09/2022 20:27

My husband told her to move it on Monday. He doesn't know she is. She argued with him but did move it. Now its back again!

This followed by "He says he's pretty sure its our next door neighbours." later on pretty much shows this is not true 🤣
