AIBU?
To find the Paddington memes so irritating and borderline offensive?

Getting lots of Paddington memes on my Facebook feed related to the Queen's death. Even saw a disgustingly twee one today with an image of Paddington and the Queen walking off into the distance hand in hand, with a caption something like 'I'm very tired now Paddington, will you take me to Philip now?' 🙄
Now I know the Paddington sketch from the Jubilee was mildly amusing, I enjoyed it at the time, but for some reason this mawkish and ridiculous association of a child's toy with the death of a respected leader is really pissing me off. Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same?
Am I being unreasonable?

The thing is I feel like one sketch has now taken a life of its own.
If HM had been connected with Paddington in a more long standing way then fine. But it was literally one sketch in the last year of her life.
The first pic / meme was quite sweet. Now it’s just very annoying and repetitive.
Feels like it’s reducing the wonderful rich huge wealth of experiences down to one small sketch and a marmalade sandwich.
People have put jars or marmalade in with flowers ffs.
I personally don’t want HM to be forever connected with Paddington.
I was intrigued that Lady Mary Peters who apparently is a Lady Companion of the Order of the Garter says that the Queen told her she didn't know who Paddington was until she did the piece for the jubilee. I'm genuinely surprised that she wouldn't have known the character.

It's OK, Paddington isn't real.🐻

Paddington has been liberated from his creator now to become The People's Paddington - who knows he may develop republican tendencies now and regret his previous life of privilege and access to royalty. 😅I'm conflicted between this is wonderful British madness to just being ....madness.

I totally agree with you, it really stuck out in the interview. What was even starker was it was a live interview so she wasn't misquoted.

My total guess is that it went something like this.
Queen (planning Jubilee with advisors): '... and it would be nice to do something to include the children, perhaps.'
Advisor: 'Yes, of course, ma'am. We'll look into it.'
Three weeks later:
Advisor: 'Perhaps you could have a look at this, ma'am. It's a piece involving the popular children's character, Paddington.'
Queen: 'Oh, yes of course, Paddington. He was part of my 80th birthday party celebrations, I do believe.' (reads script) 'Yes, this seems very suitable'
Advisor: 'Excellent, I'll set the wheels in motion then, ma'am.'

R4 interviewing Michael Bond's (.Paddington author ) daughter this am.
He was born same year as the Queen and had had an OBE,a CBE and his reflections on passing years was read by Attenborough at the celebration of the Queen's 90th in Westminster Cathedral. He was present.
Finding it hard to believe Queen didn't have a knowledge of P Bear.

Paddington is on BBC One at 7pm tonight. It replaces the launch of Strictly which has been postponed until Friday. Paddington 2 is also on. Quite right too because Strictly bores my tits off.
I find it very hard to believe the BBC didn't consult the Palace before doing that. Who knows? Maybe Strictly bored Her Majesty's tits off too.

I also found the Paddington sketch a bit difficult to watch as it sort of felt like HM Queen wasn't quite there. Particularly towards the end of the sketch, felt like an elderly lady being wheeled out for show. Totally different to the James Bond one.
That's exactly what was happening.
