To find the Paddington memes so irritating and borderline offensive?

Getting lots of Paddington memes on my Facebook feed related to the Queen's death. Even saw a disgustingly twee one today with an image of Paddington and the Queen walking off into the distance hand in hand, with a caption something like 'I'm very tired now Paddington, will you take me to Philip now?' 🙄

Now I know the Paddington sketch from the Jubilee was mildly amusing, I enjoyed it at the time, but for some reason this mawkish and ridiculous association of a child's toy with the death of a respected leader is really pissing me off. Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same?

So you prefer the illustrations @Ladybyrd eh? Perhaps you’d like to lash out a tenner on one of these beauties?

God these are so tacky. 🤮

Just going to leave this here.

Dear God we are veering into Vogon poetry territory now

Just going to leave this here.

That's horrific. I have no words, pretty much similar to the person who wrote it who was obviously struggling for some!

CathyorClaire · 13/09/2022 16:48

competitive grief orgy. See also Diana. It’s very distasteful.

Quite.

The odd thing is people have been backpedaling for years on the Diana mawkfest claiming mass hysteria, a single moment in time, one-off etc etc

Yet here we are all over again.

Sparklingbrook · 13/09/2022 16:50

The commemorative rocks are awful, the depressed corgi/tennis ball thing isn't tooo bad but wouldn't want one personally.
I don't know what to say about that poem. 🤐

'I'm very tired now Paddington, will you take me to Philip now?'

I don't understand that one. Unless Paddington is also dead.

that made me laugh out loud!
imagine, you're trying to make a twee post about Paddington and the Queen and accidentally kill Paddington bear 😳

Ladybyrd · 13/09/2022 17:23

Well, at least the tide sorted this one.

To find the Paddington memes so irritating and borderline offensive?
Notmorecrapola · 13/09/2022 18:08

@saraclara Christ! I’ve read some utter shite in my time but this absolutely takes the biscuit! 🤮

Maryminx · 13/09/2022 18:10

Get over it! It’s just a bear

AffIt · 13/09/2022 18:11

I was quite amused by the 'Paddington as the Grim Reaper' one.

Poor Paddington. Just a bear indeed. Sad

This one is is constantly on my Facebook feed - the fact they haven’t spelt Philip correctly is grating 😬

And “Monarch’s”

YDBear · 13/09/2022 18:37

Bernadinetta · 12/09/2022 19:36

Why is Paddington the grim reaper 🤣

Interesting idea. “Paddington and the Seventh Seal” where Paddington plays chess with a medieval knight.
I guess Paddington functions as a Charon figure in the meme; I know Paddington is always trying to be a Helpful Bear but I hardly think this is a task in the spirit of Michael Bond.

The one I particularly dislike is her sitting on an Elizabeth Line train heading towards a bright light - is Shenfield the gateway to the afterlife now?

Glad that Shenfield has at last found its role.

Angelil · 13/09/2022 18:42

The ‘poems’ are awful. Not proper poetry. Just mawkish shite.

ReformedWaywardTeen · 13/09/2022 18:50

It's like one time aged 6 mentioning you like cats to a distant relative, who then proceeds to buy you cat stuff for every birthday, Christmas and Easter way into your 40s isn't it?

I mean, she did a sketch with James Bond, so why are there no Bond memes?

Nedward · 13/09/2022 18:55

Unfortunately some of them are writing "poetry" (well... shit that rhymes)
Also some people banging on about seeing rainbows over various Royal residences (which apparently is "a sign") and also pretending that clouds are in the shape of dogs (?) or the queen's head.
Utter, total mawkish bollocks.

gnilliwdog · 13/09/2022 19:08

Oh well, isn't Britain supposed to be a nation of eccentrics? Living up to our reputation, I suppose.

Taxanimal · 13/09/2022 19:18

I’m trying to be patient but if one more person shares that nauseating poem on Facebook about going to Philip, I will hunt them down & hurt them. Everyone has the right to express themselves, I just don’t understand why they feel they must do it through bad poetry.

NonGardener · 13/09/2022 19:24

Well, she was being forced to act with a non-existent character, who would be magicked in afterwards. Not easy for a professional actor, let alone a total non-actor.

Juced · 13/09/2022 19:24

It’s just you 🙄…Paddington meme’s are the least concern about this whole farce!!

Ladybyrd · 13/09/2022 19:24

@gnilliwdog It's not eccentric when a million people are all sharing the same meme, just using a handful of different captions, all equally irritating.

jetadore · 13/09/2022 19:25

Sparklingbrook · 12/09/2022 19:32

Now, the sketch of HRH as Freddie Mercury, I think is awful..

That's the stuff of nightmares.

The. What?
Sorry but I absolutely need to see this. Anyone got a link?

GlomOfNit · 13/09/2022 19:30

Oh thank god, HERE are my people! Grin

I.Cannot.Stand.Any.More.Of.This.

The mawkishness, it's truly Britain at its most cringeworthy. So many reposts of that godawful illustration. And it's such a BAD illustration too. The Queen and Paddington are facing forward but her feet are walking off to the left and his boots are going to the right! (if anyone wants to snarl 'could you have done any better then?' yes, probably. I do dabble Grin but I wouldn't have wanted to.)

That was bad enough but the captions being put underneath it are sending me over the edge. I loved the now-famous Twitter comment asking if Paddington is the British Grim Reaper, but so few people seem to be actually thinking about what they're posting.

The original illustrator has done another one of Queen and Prince Philip and a random pony all walking into the sunset. I know, because all sorts of (unlikely) people on my FB feed have posted it. And the poems....

The soft toys and marmalade sandwiches are the end, frankly. It's littering. Do people really think the Queen wanted them to waste money on toys that lots of young kids would love to have, and leave manky sandwiches to go green with mould in plastic bags?

Newbie20 · 13/09/2022 19:30

@alwaysstressed I believe that the grim reaper is just supposed to take your soul and deliver it where its supposed to go but I could be wrong.
