To find the Paddington memes so irritating and borderline offensive?

BarbaraVineFan · 12/09/2022 19:29

Getting lots of Paddington memes on my Facebook feed related to the Queen's death. Even saw a disgustingly twee one today with an image of Paddington and the Queen walking off into the distance hand in hand, with a caption something like 'I'm very tired now Paddington, will you take me to Philip now?' 🙄

Now I know the Paddington sketch from the Jubilee was mildly amusing, I enjoyed it at the time, but for some reason this mawkish and ridiculous association of a child's toy with the death of a respected leader is really pissing me off. Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same?

So now we have Paddington instead of Strictly. It's a Paddington takeover.

Paddington should so do Strictly 😎

Pikafuckingwho · 13/09/2022 20:57

To be fair Paddington and Paddington 2 are excellent. I cried more spoiler alert when Aunt Lucy turns up at the end of the second one than I ever have over a very elderly rich lady that I didn’t know dying peacefully.

Pikafuckingwho · 13/09/2022 20:58

I might also write in asking if they could put on the new James Bond afterwards.

Wait, Paddington has a mobile phone and is on FB? Shock

Weird, right? The last I heard he was down and out and homeless....because I saw that TV programme advertised a few years back 'Paddington, A Life on the Tracks'. Glad he got himself sorted out.

Oh come on you obviously have never watched Paddington! Yes he is a fictional character but he loved the Queen! You obviously just don’t get it!

There was a Paddington play at the palace for her 80th birthday celebrations too. I honestly can't see what everyone on this thread is getting worked up about 🤷🏻‍♀️

Actupfishy · 13/09/2022 21:05

so nauseatingly twee!

LikeAStar1994 · 13/09/2022 21:05

You're being ridiculous. There is nothing irriating or offensive about them at all. Borderline or otherwise.

This place, honestly! Hmm

And yet a lot of people on this thread have said they do find them irritating.

Well that sorts that then 🤣

It's just bizarre, all of it. I saw a headline that read 'people asked to stop leaving Paddington bears and sandwiches outside Buckingham Palace'. All the photos of clouds that people think look like the queen?! This is the problem with social media - you realise who society is made up of and it makes me want to move to mars.

Yes and me too.

Bekstar · 13/09/2022 21:26

I was under the impression this was something the Queen had planned for her death and was just one of those funny little quirks she had.

Oh good lord.
I've just seen that someone has had the bloody cartoon tattooed to themselves

Actually permanently tattooed

I fear for humanity

ReformedWaywardTeen · 13/09/2022 21:31

Sorry forgot the link

newnamethanks · 13/09/2022 22:25

I am very glad indeed that I don't have Facebook. It sounds as if it takes up an awful lot of time to little useful effect.

Paddington is the ferryman who rows you to the underworld. His payment is a marmalade sandwich.

I love it!!

It could look fantastic when the hair grows back though. All depends on the lay of the hair. If it's just a short, soft down, at a slightly diagonal slant, it could look like a rain shower.

I think we all know it's going to be big curly leg hair though, and that tattoo is fucked.

But since the grammar in the caption is shoddy, and it looks like "tea" is spelled "tee", that probably isn't such a bad thing.

Tattoos are awful, when they go out of fashion what then? Some people are covered in them, something called a "sleeve" covers the arm, awful. High heels, clumpy heels, wide trousers, narrow trousers, short trousers/skirts, pink hair short or long - when people want a change it's easy but a tattoo? I saw the photos of Katie Price with a horse on her middle, among others, just dreadful

Daffi · 14/09/2022 00:06

Leader? who's leader?

Skodacool · 14/09/2022 00:22

I thought the sketch was very witty. It referenced what the Queen kept in her ever present handbag. The producers expected an actor to play the Queen but she insisted on doing it herself.
You are a miserable lot.

Why is Paddington the grim reaper 🤣

😆

PassMeThePineapple · 14/09/2022 00:41

Afterfire · 12/09/2022 19:37

That made me laugh 😆

My neighbourhood announced on Facebook they’re going to do a “clap for the queen” on your doorstep thing like the whole nhs covid thing and my 10 year old who has autism and is very black and white about things said, “why do that? She can’t hear them. She’s dead”.

🙈🙈

😄

Ladybyrd · 14/09/2022 00:46

@Skodacool The sketch was lovely. It's all the copyright-infringing, knock-off illustrations (and particularly the terrible captions), of Paddington leading Her Majesty into the afterlife we're objecting to.

HRTQueen · 14/09/2022 01:17

I think the drawing of the Queen holding Paddingtons paw is sweet. It’s lovely that children are drawing pictures that she had been able to reach young children because she certainly didn’t when I was young she seemed quite stern.

The take me to Phillip is over sentimental but there are far worse things to get worked up
about

IreneGoodnight · 14/09/2022 05:12

Brilliant !👏

Antarcticant · 14/09/2022 06:57

I imagine the BBC are glad to have an answer to the difficult question of what to broadcast after the Queen's funeral.
