AIBU?

To find the Paddington memes so irritating and borderline offensive?

Getting lots of Paddington memes on my Facebook feed related to the Queen's death. Even saw a disgustingly twee one today with an image of Paddington and the Queen walking off into the distance hand in hand, with a caption something like 'I'm very tired now Paddington, will you take me to Philip now?' 🙄

Now I know the Paddington sketch from the Jubilee was mildly amusing, I enjoyed it at the time, but for some reason this mawkish and ridiculous association of a child's toy with the death of a respected leader is really pissing me off. Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same?

If no one has posted the tattoo yet here it is in all its glory.

It's the poetic words that get me 🤦‍♀️

“Offensive” ?? Grow up. It’s no worse that a large number of Greeting Cards that pepper the supermarket.

It’s not for me, but plenty of people like it .. or they wouldn’t be shared so widely.

Didn’t know we were home to the “mourning police”, who decide what is and isn’t acceptable

The OP is not saying that it is unacceptable or acting as "mourning police". They are just stating their opinion - which is the purpose of this forum, after all.

The only place I've seen this stuff is on MN! Once last week and here.😁

Clearly it depends where you look and doesn't define the Queen.

Let it go OP.

@shockthemonkeyI find that one acceptable. Just my opinion.

Thanks! Yes I thought it was very touching. Just a sad corgi waiting for someone to throw his ball for him. The crown - did we need it? I don't know, but I do like it.

I do genuinely like it. It's very sweet but I also thought you were playing a little trick because it was shared by Mike Tindall, husband of the Queen's granddaughter Zara. Did you? Or didn't you know?

If a cute picture of a crying corgi is good enough for tough old ex rugger player Benty McBentface and his wife who I guess shares her mum's unsentimental streak then I think the rest of us can forgive people posting Paddington memes and soppy poetry,

Could Paddington Station now be renamed Queen Elizabeth Station in remembrance of the Great Bear?

Report
KittenKong · 15/09/2022 16:01

But Paddington (bear) was named after the station ( not sure what the station was named after)

Was a joke I'm not serious ... 😀

It has been reasonably speculated that a Saxon settlement led by the followers of Padda, an Anglo-Saxon chieftain

The Spectator has now got annoyed by the mawkish tenuous linkage of the Queen with a fictional teddy

I'm disgusted by Paddington's sudden promotion to DEATH'S side kick. I had a beloved childhood cuddly Paddington and I want him reclaimed - come on - I was a kid in the 80s, most of my childhood celebs have been found to be rampant perverts... let me keep the Peruvian Bear.

I'm assuming there will be a Del Boy flogging Paddington and HM t shirts to the funeral queue. Will he/she make a fortune or be lynched?

The artist of the original sketch is very upset about all of this. She owns the copyright and people have stolen the image, put chappy words on it and are flogging T Shirts, mugs etc with it on.

I read an article by her and she created the image after the Jubilee, its meant to be funny/sweet/uplifting. Personally it's not my sort of thing at all but I really felt for her.

Yes. YANBU - it’s all part of the recreational grieving.

The marmalade sandwiches stuck outside the queen’s residence are going to go mouldy.

How can anyone truly grieve for someone they never actually knew?
