I'd really like some ideas for something new to read or watch with some element of romance.

Have previously loved:
Elizabeth and Darcy
Jane and Rochester
Harriet Vane and Peter Wimsey
Robin and Strike
Linden and Holder
Mulder and Scully
Margaret Hale and Mr Thornton
Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister

Please give me your favourites.

Oh yes, in a town like Alice, I was overwhelmed by that scene when I was young!

Perime · 12/09/2022 23:20

Tom Feather and Cathy Scarlet

@Siddalee I was putting off reading Rachel Again because I loved Rachel's Holiday so much and was terrified it would be ruined. I ended up listening to the audio of it from the library and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. Marian Keyes is narrating and she is just brilliant.

Can't believe no one has said Claire and Jamie yet! 😂

Amazing chemistry and I love them together

Outlander for those not in the know 😉

Whew, they made it on the first page 👌

Forget Jamie and Claire. You need to meet Francis Crawford of Lymond and - well, I won't say who. You need to see it unfold over the series.

Ooh sounds promising

The second Mrs de Winter and Maximilian in Rebecca…

Yes.

Snowoctopus · 12/09/2022 23:29

Jamie and Claire from Outlander 😀

Carrie and the other bloke who wasn’t Mr Big

Adrian? Or is it Aidan? I preferred him to Mr Big too.

SomethingFast · 12/09/2022 23:31

Rhett and Scarlett
Buffy and Spike
Sooky and Erik

SomethingFast · 12/09/2022 23:33

Also Claire and John (the Breakfast Club)

HikingforScenery · 12/09/2022 23:38

Westley and Buttercup (Princess Bride)
Tristan and Yvaine ( Stardust)
Noah and Allie ( The Notebook)
Nick and Mozzie ( White Collar. Not romantic but the pairing is brilliant!)

RicherThanYew · 12/09/2022 23:46

I came to say Westley and Buttercup, was annoyed that nobody had yet but yay for @HikingforScenery

On a much darker note, I always thought that Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Sterling were perfect, if you can get beyond the homicidal rage and cannibalism.

Mythreefavouritethings · 13/09/2022 00:00

Agree with young Cathy & Hareton, Anne & Gilbert (once he stops dicking about and shows Anne how he feels), and Bathsheba & Gabriel.
I like Tristan & Isolde as I quite like a 'forbidden love' story, Sheila and Gil in Ziegfeld Girl for the (albeit it) sweet underlying message, and no apologies for the Captain and Maria. She put the stunning baroness in her place, stood up to her pigheaded boss, and the way he looked at her as they danced... And all with that bog ugly haircut. Johnny and Baby.

@RicherThanYew, as you wish 😉

OP, thank you so much for this thread. I am now re-reading A Town Like Alice for the first time in about 10 years and it is a joy. And yes I agree with a pp that the relationship between Donald and Jean is also just lovely.

Pallisers · 13/09/2022 00:32

sorry not Donald but Strachan

paisley256 · 13/09/2022 00:38

@Siddalee Oooh you just have

paisley256 · 13/09/2022 00:39

to read it 😊

sagalooshoe · 13/09/2022 00:40

Catherine and Heathcliff

Boxowine · 13/09/2022 03:18

Sorsha and Madmartigan

Boxowine · 13/09/2022 03:19

Princess Leia and Han Solo

Verbena87 · 13/09/2022 06:40

Prentice and Ash in the Crow Road too

AquaticSewingMachine · 13/09/2022 07:06

Ooh, I am also here for Martin Crieff and Princess Theresa Gustafa Bonaventura of Liechtenstein.

NinHuguenAndTheHuguenNotes · 13/09/2022 07:52

Catherine and Heathcliff for me. All a bit melodramatic and, as someone mentioned above, toxic. But it's fiction. I love them!

Clawdy · 13/09/2022 08:00

Hareton and young Cathy - love the primroses in the porridge!
