The seasonal fight between DP and I has started again this morning. The rage from last years memories has riled me up.

Here is the situation... No matter the weather, if it is freezing cold, snowing, hail, or storm, if DP hears or gets a slight whiff of a fart he will turn the window down in the car the whole way for 30 seconds.

In that 30 seconds I will be on the verge of contracting hyperthermia while I screech at DP to put the bloody window up. DP insists that he would rather be cold than smell fart. I insist that the window stays up the whole of winter.

Here's where I may be unreasonable. I am responsible for 50% of the farts but I want the window up the whole time, no matter who created the fart. My partner is the driver and it's his car.

You've really never heard that some people have bowel trouble, incontinence, etc.? Pretty weird not to know this.

What a girl's blouse! What is wrong with the smell of a fart? - it is natural and earthy and we all do it. Can't see what all the fuss is about.

I am a very gassy person (sensitive to dairy and gluten but not allergic enough to abstain) and even I think it's gross not to open a window.

Why leave millions of faecal particles just floating in an enclosed space?

Depends on the fart, a really bad one and I'd be opening a window. A generic one most can cope with for the short time until it passes surely. Windows down for 30 seconds also isn't going to kill anyone.

I don't know many people who can hold one in for long periods. It's so painful! I have the added delight of IBS and have genuinely passed out from the pain, if I'm driving and have to let one out it's happening. My DCs think farts are the height of comedy though.

The windows go down for all farts and sneezes in my car. Driver's rules.

I can't hold in a fart, and I rarely can hold in a poo, it's a case of when I need to go I need to go!

This is ridiculous of course you can hold them in, people don’t just go around farting all over the place most people hold them in till in private!

I hold mine as long as I need to ie till I get home. Either way, I HATE being cold and take what feels a life time to warm up again after being cold but I still wouldn't want to be trapped in a car with anyone's farts.

Unless you have a medical condition which wasn’t posted in the op then you can hold them in, would you fart in a meeting?

Blithely farting away in a small space, then becoming aggrieved when the other person tried to get rid of the smell, is 😳😳😳😳

Nah, I love a good fart but I am still not marinading in it in the car - window down and back up sorts it, fart sucked out quickly.

30 seconds will not give you hypothermia, not even I struggle with that and I can't get warm easily even in a heated environment, we've had ONE day this year where I didn't wear fluffy bootee slippers (the one where it hit 40c), thats how cold I am...

Hold it in! No-one wants to smell someone elses farts, and more so in a partner.. huge turnoff.

How long are you able to hold your farts in? One maybe for a few mins. But for prolonged periods?! Erm no.

You need to look at your diet, and perhaps do pelvic floor exercises (assuming they help with the back as well as the front). Never had this problem.

How can you fart in a car ???? That's absolutely disgusting. It's so antisocial, it's unbelievable. I get absolute rage if anyone does this. I too open the window and for more than 30 seconds. I don't care, it's disgusting. Why should I breathe that in.

Yes, of course I know that people have issues like this. I wrongly made the assumption that we were talking about people without any medical issues. I did almost put 'if you can't hold a fart in you should probably see your GP' but thought better of it.

In all those scenarios, you can excuse yourself and go to the toilet. You can't do that in a car!
