He's into environmental issues, wants a slimmed down monarchy, embraces multiculturalism and his speech was warm and heartfelt.
He shook hands with the crowds outside the palace with genuine emotion.
I am not sure how i feel about how he treated Diana but he should always have married Camilla.

I like him. I also like Camilla. They are clearly very happy together and should not have been kept apart in the first place. William and Harry have clearly been allowed to choose their own partners, so it does seem that lessons have been learnt.

This thread is about Charles, not what people think about Diana. There is no doubt that he must have been under pressure however he clearly treated Diana very badly from the outset for example the 'whatever that means' about being in love.

I've just been watching the accession and noticed how impatient he appeared when there were items on the desk in his way when he went to sit down. I'm just not convinced about him or William (who looked bored through the whole ceremony), there's an arrogance about both of them imo.

Yeah, speaks volumes about him. Waving his hands to summon a lackey to move them. Surely he could have just pushed them forward slightly on the desk to make room for himself to sign. Would have taken 2 seconds. Instead he has to assert his “authority”. Totally bizarre in this day and age.

I really like his championship of dying crafts. Almost no one else famous shows much interest. I really hope someone in the royal family keeps this up now.

I know most people don't really understand why ancient techniques need to be preserved, but increasingly we are learning better ways of producing things from older, more environmentally friendly methods and also, it's part of who we are as a society.

To my horror I was good friends with a colleague who was later found to have certain images on his computer. I had no idea and it makes me shudder that I spent break times with him.

The whole mess with Diana was kind of his family's fault imo. He had the queen, PP, the qm and Louis mb all putting pressure on him to marry some posh blank slate of a virgin.

The queen had a good marriage but ibdont think anybody encouraged charl3s to find the right person for him. It all had to look right

I think William secretly detests it all. I don’t think there’s an arrogance to him, I think it’s discomfort at being in a situation he doesn’t want to be in and feels obliged to go along with. He just never looks comfortable being in that position, at any public engagements.. I think that secretly he thinks it’s all ridiculous. In contrast his wife looks like she loves it all.

When my Dad died, I was impatient about stupid stuff. I don't really think that means anything that Charles was impatient with a desk full of clutter.

I didn't see it so I don't know about William, but he's got rather a lot in his mind, I think looking a bit bored might not be an exactly accurate description of his 'look'. If you've ever noticed, he can look 'a bit bored' at things he's obviously not bored by.

His environmental interests are genuine? Does he writhe with guilt about getting private jets everywhere? I doubt it. Will he ensure that all the royal cars are eco-friendly? Etc etc.

I don't think he looked bored at all. I thought he looked like someone who is grieving plus someone who realises that the next time he sees this ceremony it will be because his father he died. To me looked like he had a small frown trying to control his emotions.

From what I have seen, Charles seems to be sound. He even unveiled the Thetford statue of Duleep Singh in 1999, near to where Duleep Singh is buried in Elveden.

I don’t think I ever saw the late Queen Elizabeth II show any remembrance of Duleep Singh or his royal family. It’s huge that the last Sikh King is buried in a Church of England graveyard in Elveden. Even bigger that Duleep Singh was the true source of where so many of the Crown Jewels came from. Most famous (and infamous) being the Kohinoor diamond that was adorned to her mother’s crown. So, remembrance may have been appropriate and in line with Lest We Forget.

So, I like Charles for at least showing some interest and a recognition of the wider history. It’s an uncomfortable history, so I respect that he had unveiled the Thetford statue in recognition of the other royal family.

I disagree. It's not down to him to roll out red carpets & honours. It's down to them to apologise publicly for their disgraceful behaviour. But let's not derail yet another thread over bloody Meghan.

I hope Charles meant what he said yesterday & that he turns out to be a good king. I also hope he does stay King until he can't possibly anymore & this enables William to have more time with his kids growing up. If Charles does 20 years, William will be a good age (& his kids) for him to take over.

I don't think we should be judging any of their behaviour or facial expressions over the next few days. Their family is not like ours but The Queen was clearly loved by all of them and to be on public display at this moment must be awful no matter how privileged they are.

He moved them for himself, and then gestured for them to be moved so that they wouldn't be in the other's way, I thought?

And yes, lackeys are supposed to handle that sort of thing. It would have been very embarrassing for anyone to knock off an inkwell.

William in fact moved forward to reset the inkwell and flip the lid back at one point. And he had to remind his father to take his papers back.

I've no doubt that William does have a touch of arrogance, but partly just has "resting arrogant face". He's keeping a straight face, and that face naturally has an arrogant aspect.

He breaks my heart. The sadness on his face cannot be masked. Every time I see him I well up.
I believe he has been very strong with all the engagements. My mother is still here, but even with a lot of practice, a whole Country relying on me to do the 'right thing' and follow protocol. I imagine I would be saying 'nope, not getting out of bed today, leave me to cry'

Did I like him before? I didn't have much of an opinion. Do I think he will be a great King? I hope so. One thing for sure, he has some huge boots to fill and I thoroughly believe he will do his best.

Quite right. Today was about legal investiture. I'm a lawyer and its dull as shit frankly but very very necessary as part of the constitution. No one is going to look enraptured as part of this. Especially as a much beloved part of their family has recent died. The things we expect from these people are beyond human sometimes.
