Websites not changing their banners to black.

What are your thoughts on websites changing their colours to black and white in response to the Queen's death?

I'm not an ardent royalist, but I think it's a nice touch in amongst this significant event.

I've noticed some websites haven't and in a way I find it disrespectful. The Guardian hasn't bothered to do this, which isn't a surprise. But AIBU to think showing a little unity in this time wouldn't be amiss? Mumsnet hasn't done it either.

I couldn’t care less about a website changing colour!

NomeatNoveg · 09/09/2022 21:36

OMG....haven't you got anything else better to think about?

Etinoxaurus · 09/09/2022 21:36

Guardian has black borders on the real life ‘paper paper’ today.

XenoBitch · 09/09/2022 21:37

I don't care.
It is virtue signalling.

BigBearLittleBear · 09/09/2022 21:37

Completely a matter for them. If they do it, nice touch. If not, who cares?

Nothingbuttheglory · 09/09/2022 21:37

I can't imagine the Queen would have given a monkey's.

FinallyHere · 09/09/2022 21:37

IMHO, respect is not about the colour of ink on paper and/or the colour settings on a screen

KangarooKenny · 09/09/2022 21:37

I think it’s respectful. I thought MN might have followed the trend, but obviously not.

User148563 · 09/09/2022 21:38

It's only really websites like the BBC that should do that

dementedpixie · 09/09/2022 21:38

Don't care tbh
Virtue signalling

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/09/2022 21:38

Respect isn't about judging whether others fit into your idea of mourning.

neverbeenskiing · 09/09/2022 21:38

I envy people who have the headspace to get worked up about things like this.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 09/09/2022 21:38

Virtue signalling nonsense. How does changing a logo convey respect?

rainbowmilk · 09/09/2022 21:39

omg I think it’s disrespectful that you can even on websites at a time like this. Shame on you!

PinkBuffalo · 09/09/2022 21:39

Our work has changed the intranet to all blacked out videos apart from a picture of the queen and all blacked out round the edges
it just looks like a really bad connection i thought there was something wrong with the internet when I logged on
It makes it really hard to look at

Snowiscold · 09/09/2022 21:40

I wouldn’t notice or care. I’m more likely to think it’s a bit odd to do it.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 09/09/2022 21:40

Virtue-signalling nonsense generally. And I could also do without emails from companies telling me how sad they are.

HowManyWaysAreThereToSayThatEverythingSucks · 09/09/2022 21:40

They are obviously doing it to appeal to their customers / viewership. I think I have more respect for the ones who don't do it.

TabithaTittlemouse · 09/09/2022 21:40

It’s a stupid ‘gesture’. If I dyed my eyebrows black tonight would that be a kind gesture to mark my grief?
I am sad that she died but don’t need to check that websites have ‘paid respect’ by turning black.

What a load of nonsense this all is.

TabithaTittlemouse · 09/09/2022 21:42

@Completelyovernonsense I will get on it tomorrow.

Tangled123 · 09/09/2022 21:43

People grieve differently. I think it makes it harder to deal with if reminders are everywhere. The radio in work was playing really sad music all day and even Next have a memorial up. Places to escape from it are a good thing imo.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 09/09/2022 21:44

The entire front of the Guardian app is dark grey/black and all the visible stories are about the Queen until you scroll down really far — so, as annoying as the Guardian can sometimes be, I think you’re mistaken about it on this occasion
