Websites not changing their banners to black.

What are your thoughts on websites changing their colours to black and white in response to the Queen's death?

I'm not an ardent royalist, but I think it's a nice touch in amongst this significant event.

I've noticed some websites haven't and in a way I find it disrespectful. The Guardian hasn't bothered to do this, which isn't a surprise. But AIBU to think showing a little unity in this time wouldn't be amiss? Mumsnet hasn't done it either.

do you all claim it’s virtue signalling when companies put rainbow banners and logos up during (never-ending) pride “month”?

Yes that's also virtue signalling

fivehundred · 09/09/2022 23:03

above should read background-color: black

fivehundred · 09/09/2022 23:04

"background-color", "black"

ThinWomansBrain · 09/09/2022 23:05

Put dark sunglasses on you won;t notice
alternatively, stop using the internet to show your respect - problem solved.

Blinky21 · 09/09/2022 23:05

All seems very insincere, couldn't give a toss what people do with websites

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 09/09/2022 23:08

I’m quite traditional and think places should. The same way it’s respectful to fly flags at half mast.

Dadaya · 09/09/2022 23:09

Depends how big the company is. It’s expensive to pay a web company to change your colour theme. Expensive to pay them to change it back too.

FourChimneys · 09/09/2022 23:11

It's all getting thoroughly out of proportion.

It never occurred to me to change my business's website, I've got far better things to do, no time for empty virtue signalling.

OP, I'm sorry if you are finding the death of the queen so intense. The media fuss will die down soon and people will be able to move on 🙂

Thatswhyimacat · 09/09/2022 23:11

Get a life?

MarshaMelrose · 09/09/2022 23:13

Google's gone grey to out of respect.

Squirrelly1 · 09/09/2022 23:13

I’ve not noticed the websites (only been on here and Rightmove today), but I’ve had a number of marketing emails referencing the Queen, it’s hardly sincere. I can’t say I’m any more in the market for a bouquet, bicycle, new PC, jewellery or pet accessories since the Queen passed. I’ve unsubscribed from most of them.

I have no strong feelings towards the royal family either way, i can see why some people have decided to do such things as a sign of respect but I also know a lot of people feel very strongly against the presence of a royal family and what the general institution has stood for and done over the years so I can fully understand why people wouldn't want to acknowledge it either? Surely people and businesses are allowed their own preference in that respect? Think its a bit unreasonable to expect everyone to think the same as you op!

LaurieFairyCake · 09/09/2022 23:18

I was very surprised the Daily Mail didn't change their app until 24 hours had passed (to black)

neverbeenskiing · 09/09/2022 21:38

I envy people who have the headspace to get worked up about things like this.

Well said!

toomuchlaundry · 09/09/2022 23:27

Schools have been told to do this

baroqueandblue · 09/09/2022 23:31

What are your thoughts on websites changing their colours to black and white in response to the Queen's death?

My thoughts are... nope, got none.
Possibly because the question itself is so mind-numbingly trivial I can't even go there Confused

Snoozer11 · 09/09/2022 23:37

WeAreAllLionesses · 09/09/2022 22:02

I work in a school and we had specific protocols that we had to adhere to - changing logo to black background, one official statement to be put on website and social media, absolutely no social media other than the statement until after the funeral, etc.

So you might think it was overkill or virtue signalling but I can assure you it was spelt out exactly what we had to do!

Thanks. This is mostly what I was trying to open a discussion about - the fact that some relatively obscure websites have done it but some of the more mainstream ones haven't.

I noticed last night that some Premier League football clubs had changed their colours on Twitter, so I think I expected it to be more widespread today.

But apparently I need to get a life, according to people commenting on mumsnet on a Friday night.

What are your thoughts on websites changing their colours to black and white in response to the Queen's death?

Good grief, I don't think the three visitors to my blog would care what colour the header banner was.

My thoughts are that you have lost all sense of perspective.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 09/09/2022 23:58

It's part of the London Bridge protocol for gov departments/royal websites/BBC can't remember who else...... but then everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 10/09/2022 00:00

Iv not liked to see the websites who haven't just simply done the banner.

Its actually made me think less of those businesses.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 10/09/2022 00:01

The same businesses who haven't changed to the black banner are probably the same ones that change it for things like BLM.

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 10/09/2022 00:13

well it's not unity is it when a significant percentage of the population do not support the royal family and do not care about the queen's death more than any other person's
