Websites not changing their banners to black.

What are your thoughts on websites changing their colours to black and white in response to the Queen's death?

I'm not an ardent royalist, but I think it's a nice touch in amongst this significant event.

I've noticed some websites haven't and in a way I find it disrespectful. The Guardian hasn't bothered to do this, which isn't a surprise. But AIBU to think showing a little unity in this time wouldn't be amiss? Mumsnet hasn't done it either.

Websites should all be totally in black out of respect.

I've just finished covering my entire house in black drapes and dyeing all my clothes black. If there weren't all these namby-pamby woke types around, I'd probably paint myself black, too. Also out of respect.

Fairislefandango · 10/09/2022 07:59

do you all claim it’s virtue signalling when companies put rainbow banners and logos up during (never-ending) pride “month”?

Yes of course, because that's exactly what it is!

Pava22 · 10/09/2022 08:00

We own a couple of businesses and I do all thr admin and back office jibs and running the website and social media and it takes up 6 days a week. I honestly didn't think to do this. We put a lovely post on social media. I'm not sure why we need to change the website too. I understand big companies as they have a team that will just deal with online etc. But I don't want to move or change my website. It took me a long time to get it just how we want it and I don't want to mess it up! I did quite well and had to make it up as I went along as had never done it before. I understand op but sometimes just not feasible

If you switch your computer, tablet and phone off, the screen will be entirely black without even needing to change the browser settings.

You can also achieve the same effect in real life by wearing an eye mask for the next 10 days or so.
Then everything will be totally and "respectfully" black.

Hope that helps.

Has anyone seen any respectful black bunting for sale ? Wondering where to get it for the funeral street party

FredrikaPeri · 10/09/2022 08:17

Oh fgs get a grip!

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 10/09/2022 15:40

@Pava22 because they are the official guidelines for businesses on gov.uk

johnd2 · 12/09/2022 17:44

Well, it looks like Mumsnet have done it now! Doesn't look good due to the clashing between the banner and all the other site furniture, but that's probably the quickest they could get the change through once the developers were in the office!

absolutelyanythingwilldo · 12/09/2022 18:04

The post button is still blue! So disrespectful.

Mojoj · 12/09/2022 18:15

I think you need to get a life.

WoodlandMummy · 12/09/2022 19:10

Has it ever occurred to you that not everyone is a royalist. To some people, the queen was just another human being, no worse or better than any other 96yr old woman who recently passed away 🤷🏻‍♀️

Isitjustmeee · 12/09/2022 19:44

Oh is this why it’s black here, I honestly didn’t realise until reading this

jewishmum · 12/09/2022 20:36

Yep and you have this to thank for it. 🙄

cansu · 12/09/2022 20:38

Get a grip. How does changing your banner or putting a statement about the Queen on the website mean anything? People have respect for others not businesses. An organisation changing their banner is meaningless.

EndTheMonacyNow · 12/09/2022 20:39

I don't like it at all. It's as though the death of the Queen is more important than other people death. It is sad but it's not as sad as the thousands of elderly people who died in care home over Covid having not been allowed contact with their families

Darkstar4855 · 12/09/2022 20:40

Really wish everyone would just get on with grieving/not grieving in whichever way they want and stop judging what other people are doing.

ithinkimdone · 12/09/2022 20:42

What really pisses me off is that some companies have made their whole app greyed out! I use high contrast colour settings because of my visual impairment and the software I use cannot override greyscale interfaces so it just makes stuff less accessible. Hardly 'respectful' to those of us that have access needs....

ChaToilLeam · 12/09/2022 20:46

Have you painted your front door black yet, OP?

RiftGibbon · 12/09/2022 22:22

As a pp has said, if it affects accessibility then it's a problem for people with visual difficulties or processing problems.
Accessibility shouldn't be overturned for the sake of conforming.
