Just tell us if its the Saturday or the Monday please ffs. 'Expected' to be is driving me mad.

Hoping for a bank hol so that I can read books and watch Netflix all day, but it’s easy for me to say because I’m not a business owner, zero-hours contractor or a parent of small children. I can see why many want clarity. Best wishes to the poster who is awaiting a lumpectomy and the one whose son is sitting the 11+.

klipwa · 09/09/2022 20:03

@Prometheus Our trust has indicated various meetings are cancelled but NOT suggested changes to patient care.

That's good, it might affect my chemo otherwise, though I can't see how they will be fully staffed if schools aren't open.

ajandjjmum · 09/09/2022 20:08

Prometheus · 09/09/2022 20:00

Does anyone know if hospital appointments will take place as usual if it’s on the Monday? I’ve been called into hospital to get the results of a cancer biopsy and really don’t want the appointment to be delayed 😥

I feel for you. I am due to have a lumpectomy on the 21st with a radioactive injection on the 20th. Selfish I know, but I really don't want it postponed.

Not in the least selfish. Thanks

“Entirely different to close the country down at a few days' notice”

@MadeWithCare they expected us all to manage it with repeated lockdowns.

SierraSapphire · 09/09/2022 20:11

@ajandjjmum and @Prometheus there's a supportive cancer thread in general health that you'd be very welcome on, good luck to both of you.

Of course they will have a BH - when Prince William
and Kate got married we all had a day off. Not to mention the jubilee long weekend.

I think this deserves another, don’t you? This is her final event.

We've already had an extra Bank Holiday weekend. NHS waiting lists are at an all time high. Our economy is disastrous and we're headed for recession. So no, I don't think a last minute holiday that won't count for everyone is helpful at this point.

Blankscreen · 09/09/2022 20:12

If the schools are shut it needs to be a proper bank holiday.

I feel really sorry for people on zero hours contracts who might lose out on pay that day.

We've heard of nothing but the cost of living crisis for weeks and now its all forgotten and the peasants just have to suck up losing £££ due to cancellations.

Timeturnerplease · 09/09/2022 20:15

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 09/09/2022 19:33

IMO schools could stay open and the kids could watch the funeral on the basis this is a historic moment, but then you’d get people on here complaining about that.

Teacher here - yes absolutely for the older primary/secondary children.

I’ve got a bunch of particularly immature Year 3s this year who wouldn’t even sit through a 15 minute assembly about the Queen this morning. We’d be better off in Year 4 and below carrying on as normal and showing them the odd clip.

Though I suspect we’d probably then get parents complaining about our lack of national pride.

AmeliaLila · 09/09/2022 20:16

If we shut my boss will either make us take it unpaid or take it from our holiday entitlement like he does with other bank holidays.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 09/09/2022 20:16

MadeWithCare · 09/09/2022 19:56

It think this and other similar reasons will be why they're moving heaven and earth to have it on day 9 and not day 11 and possibly the reason for the delay.

If that's the case I'm really disappointed that hospitals would be made to do that. We really can't afford to be cancelling theatre lists and clinics, waiting times and waiting lists are already ridiculously long.

On a personal level, if it's the Monday and we're told we have the day off I assume that will need to come out of our normal leave allowance as not sure how possible it is to add an extra day's worth of leave (or pro rata leave) onto the leave/rostering system at such short notice.

QuebecBagnet · 09/09/2022 20:17

darmaka · 09/09/2022 20:04

Of course it will be canceled like a bank holiday. They will all be moved. How do you expect people to go to work without childcare. Who will look after their children on short notice?

I don’t expect people to go to work with no childcare, I didn’t say I did. 🤷‍♀️

AmongstTheCosmos · 09/09/2022 20:17

Didn't covid teach us that when schools are closed, nothing else can be fully open either?

I don't actually care if it is a bank holiday or not. But I do very very much care if schools are closed but somehow parents are expected to work anyway. Fucking how??

ilovesooty · 09/09/2022 20:18

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/09/2022 19:42

Sorry but YABU. This is a big fucking deal.

Why is she unreasonable to feel gutted?

Why? Are you doing the grub?

🤣🤣

Beyondthedale · 09/09/2022 20:19

I thought that was ridiculous as well @ilovesooty but this place will be batshit for a while.

Somethingneedstochange · 09/09/2022 20:20

It's a bit soon to expect for her funeral to be organised. But being a state funeral it will most likely be on a Saturday. Princess Diana's was. Yes she was our Queen but she was they're family member first.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 09/09/2022 20:21

klipwa · 09/09/2022 20:03

@Prometheus Our trust has indicated various meetings are cancelled but NOT suggested changes to patient care.

Yes we've also been told some meetings are cancelled, others have to be held in private not public, our twitter feed won't be very active and we might not be allowed to publicise awareness weeks, depending on what they are for. There has been no mention of changes to patient care.

JubileeTissues · 09/09/2022 20:22

Well, seems I've been reading the guidance for the period of mourning which gives employers the choice and applying it to the funeral dayBlush

Ignore me, yes it looks like it'll be Monday and schools will close.

If you need to apply for leave in advance can you apply for it but then cancel if not needed?

Twotwotwotwo · 09/09/2022 20:22

DD (aged 8) has a long awaited op in the hospital just across the river from Westminster on 19th. It has a long at home recovery. We have moved all sorts of work/personal commitments around to facilitate it. She is desperate to get it out the way and move on with her life.

I can’t imagine it will go ahead if it is funeral day. If by some luck it does the logistics of getting in and out when we live outside London with a poorly child is going to be much more difficult.

I’ve had to prepare her for the disappointment. She just keeps asking if we know yet.

I would like to know asap.

Well according to the scottish news, King charles accession is on Saturday. So it will not be on that day.

Oh that might be this Saturday though?
