@Timeturnerplease gosh year 3s should of course be able to sit through a 15 minute assembly about the Queen dying! I'm shocked!

I'm also a primary teacher but in a church school so assemblies are almost daily from receptor age so maybe that's why ours do sit so well.

I would like to watch the funeral of our monarch so I hope we do get a day off or it's on the Saturday. It's a huge event in our lifetime!

If supermarkets are to be shut then people might want to get their groceries in.

Best stock up on loo roll then

BabyDreamers · 09/09/2022 20:34

Op it's not your mum (my condolences if it is) you need to chill out and have a cup of tea the woman only died yesterday don't rush her family.

gatehouseoffleet · 09/09/2022 20:36

We've heard of nothing but the cost of living crisis for weeks and now its all forgotten and the peasants just have to suck up losing £££ due to cancellations

Indeed.

Monday seems like an odd day to have it, I think it might be later in the week.

How patronising, have you read the whole thread?

Drunkencrow · 09/09/2022 20:40

Waitrose just confirmed that Harry and Meghan will not be given any further titles.

RaininSummer · 09/09/2022 20:45

I want to know as it's the first day of my annual leave and I had plans.

Livebythecoast · 09/09/2022 20:45

Woopzies · 09/09/2022 18:28

Why? Are you doing the grub?

Excellent first post 🤣

I don't understand. How would they know? Are they doing the grub?

We had people on the phone at 8am this morning rearranging bookings as "you'll be closed"
Apparently they know more than our business does Grin

Cantthinkofausername01 · 09/09/2022 20:55

Specifically says online that it won't be a bank holiday

I think there will be a few days notice (at least) when the funeral day is announced, I am pretty sure they will have factored in your pressing need to stock up on foodstuffs.

Notaflippinclue · 09/09/2022 20:56

Media somewhere said the country couldn’t afford another bank holiday.

A bank holiday but not a bank holiday will be worse.

Online where...?
Online on Mumsnet?
Online on Reddit?
Online on the Russian government website?
Online on the Cabinet Office website?
Online on the Daily Mail website?

Not all online sources are equally authoritative. Fake news is a thing.

Prometheus · 09/09/2022 20:00

Does anyone know if hospital appointments will take place as usual if it’s on the Monday? I’ve been called into hospital to get the results of a cancer biopsy and really don’t want the appointment to be delayed 😥

@Prometheus Family member works for the NHS and their Trust has said that they will continue to provide care as normal.

latebreakfast · 09/09/2022 21:09

Of course they will have a BH - when Prince William
and Kate got married we all had a day off

no "we all" didn't. Public sector employees might have done. Some employees of big business might have done. Those on 0 hour contracts would have lost a day's wages. Small business would have lost a day's income. Police, fire, railways, and huge numbers of others will still have been working. Bank holidays are great for some and terrible for others.

PenguinMan · 09/09/2022 21:10

Have a glass of wine (or 5) and chill out!

No point in you having a heart attack over it, else you’ll be the one who’s funeral is being planned.

You are in the exact same position as everyone else so just calm down.

I needed this today 🤣🤣

Gilmorehill · 09/09/2022 21:11

As someone who works in KS1, I wouldn’t be happy about not being able to watch the funeral.

EssentialGarage · 09/09/2022 21:13

PenguinMan as is shown clearly on this thread we are not all in the exact same situation, the lack of understanding of some posters and the privilege that they have that they can just 'chill' is breathtaking.

I'm sorry I totally disagree.....

I'm a mother whose children are adults now.

I do a job that I can do from home, if I so wish.

If I was a nurse with young children that may possibly not be at school when I anticipated, I would be stressed worrying about how I could work my shift, without the planned childcare and need to make plans.

Remember the nurse, doctor, police officer that had to work is literally saving peoples lives.

To think that everyone is the same is madness.

Poppiesway1 · 09/09/2022 21:16

It may depend from Trust to Trust.. emergency and ward services to continue. out patients and GP patients to be rearranged for us.

Badger1970 · 09/09/2022 21:17

Diana's funeral was on a Saturday.
