Will it definitely not be on the Sunday?

Not sure, maybe tweet King Charles?

Bodice · 09/09/2022 19:40

I am confused about what is going to happen. Is the funeral a bank holiday? If it’s not a full bank holiday what exactly are health professionals a supposed to do about childcare if schools close?

Why? Are you doing the grub?

We have lives to live

tickticksnooze · 09/09/2022 19:40

Considering Prince Philip spent the best part of two decades designing his own hearse for his funeral, I'm pretty sure everything is already planned out in minute detail - it will just be a matter of coordination.

I don't know why people are talking like they're having to plan this all from scratch on the fly.

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/09/2022 19:41

MadeWithCare · 09/09/2022 18:38

I thought they'd had this planned for years?

I think it will be the Saturday but I'm just guessing like everyone else.

It has, but day 10 is a Sunday so they have to go with day 9 or 11.

howshouldibehave · 09/09/2022 19:42

A million plus people went to London to be there outside Diana’s funeral-I can imagine a lot more people will want to do the same for the Queen- which they won’t be able to if they’re all at work/school. Hopefully it will be declared a public holiday.

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/09/2022 19:42

Toddlerteaplease · 09/09/2022 19:32

I had tickets to a concert that I was really looking forward too and had booked accommodation for. Which is non refundable. Concert is cancelled and if the funeral is Saturday, no point in going anywhere. I'm a bit gutted. I'm happy to show respect but in this day and age do we have to cancel everything. The Queen would have been the first to say that the world goes on.

Sorry but YABU. This is a big fucking deal.

She’s been dead about 27 hours. I can’t believe people can’t grasp the enormity of what has to be arranged. Especially as her death caught everyone off-guard.

She was 96 and Operation London Bridge/Unicorn has been being planned in one shape or another since the 1960s! Yes, there's logistics to arrange but it really shouldn't have caught anyone whose job it is to think about these things off-guard.

Schools will close if it’s the Monday, it’s just how it is. But it won’t be called a bank holiday but a national day or mourning.

Yes, but then are we really supposed to believe that in decades of planning and rehearsal it never occurred to anyone to plan for that entirely probable scenario?

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 09/09/2022 19:45

Closing or cancelling things like concerts because of some idea of respect is pathetic, but there are logistical issues too. Even in places that are nowhere near the funeral venue, there might still be complications and shortages with transport, police and general infrastructure so I do see how organisers might feel they had no choice.

Setting out a plan isn’t the same until you’ve got specific dates. So they didn’t know which actually day she’d die and what events would already be in place first.

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 09/09/2022 19:47

It has, but day 10 is a Sunday so they have to go with day 9 or 11. of course they don’t. The probably would, but this is the queen, if they want the funeral to be on the Sunday then it will be on the Sunday.

Jellykat · 09/09/2022 19:47

I heard on the radio theres some big UN meeting on 19th in New York, so causes a problem with various heads of states?

I don't think the Co-op funeral service does a Sunday? That's an issue!

That won't be by accident either. The ads always pick out workds from the threads. If it's about a waterproof coat, the ads will be for coats.

porkmarkets · 09/09/2022 19:49

The Monday seems sensible, with schools closing. If they closed for the jubilee they'll close for her funeral surely.

NuffSaidSam · 09/09/2022 19:50

CrapBucket · 09/09/2022 18:41

Of course they know, its all planned and has been for years. Its hardly like they have to check venue availability or if their preferred vicar is on holiday. It would help the general population out a lot by confirming promptly.

I'm sure the arrangements have been planned for years, but you can't genuinely believe the date has been planned for years?

Darkness22 · 09/09/2022 19:50

It seems Tesco has withdrawn delivery slots for the weekend and Monday.

QuebecBagnet · 09/09/2022 19:51

LongLivedQueen · 09/09/2022 18:41

Its on Monday the 19th. What the fuck does it matter though?

Matters if you’re senior in a university and planning first day of the academic year and lectures may have to be cancelled for thousands of students and no chance of rearranging as the timetables and room bookings are chokka. We may have to squeeze two days of lectures into one!

It's just not the done thing to have a funeral on a Sunday and as Queen Elizabeth II and the King had/have tremendous faith and regard for the Church, it would be very surprising if they disregarded that and had it on a Sunday. Of course they "could" but they won't

DixonD · 09/09/2022 19:51

MadeWithCare · 09/09/2022 18:56

Because if schools close everyone has a childcare crisis?

I read on the news yesterday evening that the day of the funeral WILL be a BH unless it falls on the weekend. As on other BH, employers will decide themselves whether to close or not.

School said today they may have to move stuff around depending on the schedule. They are anticipating closing.

If it's 19th - I reckon most people will be given the day off to mourn. Especially civil servants.

I doubt I'll be given the day off. I work in IT in a hospital and unless the outpatient clinics, theatre lists, therapy clinics etc are all reduced to bank holiday/weekend levels, which surely won't happen as we we cannot afford to cancel appointments and admissions, we will need to be at work to provide IT support.
