Weddings on 19th will be cancelled then. Hope insurance helps . Was it an act of God that the Queen died ? God was meant to save the Queen.

My wedding was supposed to be on the 19th. We're scrambling to understand what is happening with our plans one week away. Ours was supposed to happen in a Royal Park, and there are no events during the funeral. Fair enough, but when is the funeral? We have our guests, most of them flying in from abroad,
and vendors on standby. We don't know if we can reschedule with the registry office as they said they can't take any commitments until a date is announced. We're stressed and losing money through no one's fault. Not to mention
that our vendors are small businesses themselves, and they have no idea what the weekend will look like for them. So yeah, I think it's fair to want an official announcement on the funeral's set date. You can be sad and mourn a Queen and still have to scramble to rearrange important life plans at the same time.

Well said

Superb post, to which I'd only add that you'd also be 100% in the right even if you were neither sad nor mourning.

To be honest, we personally aren't mourning, as we aren't even UK citizens, but we are permanent residents so we do understand the historical moment this is and treat it with respect.
But I've seen so many tone-deaf people here basically chastising anyone who has plans disrupted by this - it's amazing to think what a little empathy could do. Not everyone has the luxury to stay home and watch TV during the funeral, and get paid to do so.
My heart goes out to our vendors and venue because no matter when the date is set, they will lose out on a day's work.
We have until tomorrow to decide what to do. Hoping by tomorrow we will know.

EssentialGarage · 10/09/2022 11:08

So who is paying for the holiday? Is that an extra paid day that business somehow has to find?

And what bloody day, Tuesday would be worse for planning than a Monday for many.

EssentialGarage · 10/09/2022 11:09

bridezilla and those doing the 11+ and those that have important medical appointments remember you are being so me me me

Towcester · 10/09/2022 11:13

What do you think will happen with 11plus on the 19th? They won't do it on a bank holiday will they. The exam takes place at a school and that schools kids had the day off so the school could be used for 11 plus. They will have to close that school for another day then and how much notice will they need to reschedule that? Could it be days later than scheduled or weeks?

Belindabelle · 10/09/2022 11:15

I can’t believe they haven’t announced this yet.
There must be a bit of wrangling going on in the background over the date. Saturday more practical versus Monday more traditional perhaps?

Oh absolutely, the mealy mouthed arseholes on here condemning people for daring to attribute any value to their own weddings, medical procedures, ability to pay the bills etc are fucking risible.

cheninblanc · 10/09/2022 11:22

Sky news say the date will be announced this evening

But then Saturday won't be a bank holiday, so that implies a weekday as I presume the point is for people to have the day off to watch the funeral.

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 11:26

It is a bit off that they won't tell us!!
We want to know .

WavePlant · 10/09/2022 11:30

They can’t announce a bank holiday at short notice, everyone’s hospital appointments would have to be cancelled and then what, does everyone go to the back of the queue? Or have to come in on Sunday instead?

MomsnetAdmin · 10/09/2022 11:30

Although not common, you can have a bank holiday on a Saturday of course. Cancellation of normal activities on Monday 19th far more likely now.

MomsnetAdmin · 10/09/2022 11:31

Have the munsnet preppers prepared for this eventuality?

That's my concern, I have chemo that week, which relies on pre-appointments on Monday and Tuesday. Seems horribly short notice for staff to have to sort it out.

FuzzyAndBlue · 10/09/2022 11:34

Yeah I'd had a few last night Grin

Pah! Grin Gin
I mean, posters were planning to go and live in the foothills of the Rockies because the Russians were coming! That didn't come true.

I was surprised when for William and Kate's wedding my hospital trust ignored the bank holiday and all clinic appointments went ahead as usual, with usual staffing.

So this may happen again? Though I suspect clinics will be cancelled for the funeral.

Hbh17 · 10/09/2022 11:38

The King is scheduled to meet both the Cabinet and the Dean of Westminster today, so I would expect the funeral date to be agreed by the end of the day.
