Twiglets also need to know if schools will be open etc.

People complained about the 'hysteria' on here about so many things; brexit, covid, the war on Ukraine (before most people realised a war was even imminent); the energy crisis. And every fucking time the people worrying and pointing out how bad things could be were proven right.
I've been on MN for ten years now, when all this was fields before the Mouldies and that is the maddest thing ever ever read.

Yeah I'd had a few last night Grin

DataColour · 10/09/2022 09:47

Thousands of children are due to take the 11+ entrance exam on the 19th Sept in Trafford. I bet they'd like to know if it's going to be cancelled.

howshouldibehave · 10/09/2022 09:52

If they don’t make it public holiday and everyone is still at work, the crowds in London out in support of the Queen would be much smaller than if it were, and much smaller than Diana’s funeral-I can’t see that being a popular idea.

Siameasy · 10/09/2022 09:55

I hope it’s the Sunday as well. It causes problems for many if schools are shut on Monday. As a shift worker, I plan my childcare months in advance and it’s pretty stressful.

Hellothere54 · 10/09/2022 10:02

Seen on a local news site someone seemed to be genuinely annoyed that ‘government employees’ weren’t being forced to take 10 days of mourning to show respect. Thought all govt offices, libraries, schools etc. should close! I’m a teacher and I will be a little annoyed to miss one day as our timetable is so tight that we really can’t afford to miss any time off!

Bet you that person isn't reliant on any of those things for their income, essential services or childcare. It's the same mentality as we so often saw during covid, people thinking a restriction was an easy win or low impact because they wouldn't be the ones feeling the effects.

Or even positively enjoying all the lovely paid time off.

Also a possibility!

EverydayIsPJday · 10/09/2022 10:19

I have a load of pre op tests on the 19th (bloods at a hospital clinic and COVID one at a private hospital drive through thingy) does that mean they will be canceled (and presumably the op put back?)

JangolinaPitt · 10/09/2022 10:26

Why do people find it so hard to understand that am extra day’s holiday has to be paid for by someone who loses out - either the employer (who is not some rich mill owner but a struggling small business operating on a shoe string) out the employee who loses a day’s pay. Our odds just like COVID when public sector workers and retired people were paid anyway and were totally heedless of the hugely damaging consequences to those working in the private sector.

howshouldibehave · 10/09/2022 10:34

I presume they will announce it over the next couple of days. I think it will almost certainly be a public holiday with schools closed.

Cantthinkofausername01 · 10/09/2022 10:38

Bank holiday on the day of the funeral is confirmed

Hang on I work in the public sector (teaching assistant) and had to work throughout Covid even pre vaccinations because we had a pop up school for the children of key workers & vulnerable children. So did many other public sector workers have to work keeping the transport system going, collecting rubbish etc.

It was announced during the proclamation.

It’s on the Monday, I’m related to someone involved in the arrangements.

Hi Camilla

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 10/09/2022 10:50

Oh yes I see it now... but we still don't know the day yet!

Ship · 10/09/2022 10:51

Now they’ve announced bank holiday I would think it would be Monday 19th

Butterflyfluff · 10/09/2022 10:51

Assuming it’s 19th

No point in having a bank holiday at the weekend and Friday 16th is too soon

callmebridezilladontcare · 10/09/2022 10:52

My wedding was supposed to be on the 19th. We're scrambling to understand what is happening with our plans one week away. Ours was supposed to happen in a Royal Park, and there are no events during the funeral. Fair enough, but when is the funeral? We have our guests, most of them flying in from abroad,
and vendors on standby. We don't know if we can reschedule with the registry office as they said they can't take any commitments until a date is announced. We're stressed and losing money through no one's fault. Not to mention
that our vendors are small businesses themselves, and they have no idea what the weekend will look like for them. So yeah, I think it's fair to want an official announcement on the funeral's set date. You can be sad and mourn a Queen and still have to scramble to rearrange important life plans at the same time.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 10/09/2022 10:53

I wondered if it might be Tuesday 20th because people were saying something about another summit on the 19th. The Monday would be better for me though.

Oh that sounds so stressful. I really hope you’re able to get everything sorted and it can go ahead.
