Re childcare

I was entitled to five days paid. However this was for emergencies, which this wouldn’t be classed as.

‘my child is vomiting’ - emergency
The queen died ten days ago and nursery is shut - not an emergency.

theoriginalteletubby · 10/09/2022 07:36

It will be ok the 19th at the earliest.

Pumperthepumper · 10/09/2022 07:41

PenguinMan · 09/09/2022 23:53

No, it’s just an accurate way to sum up your posts. You don’t have a clue.

Lol ok.

Well you do get time off for childcare in emergency circumstances.
If you’re unsure then speak to your union.

Wrong again.

lovemelongtime · 10/09/2022 07:45

Does it matter when it is, seriously? What difference does it make to us.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 10/09/2022 07:45

When shit comes to shite, and despite some of the more fuckwitted and/or privilege mired comments over the last few pages, the uncertainty over the funeral is potentially an organisational problem that anyone who's liable to have responsibility for managing or lose out on money because of is right to be concerned about. The rest is stupidity.

Haaaaaaa! Love it

It matters if schools shut and people cant go to work and then this affects anyone needing to use the service/product that that working parent provides.

For me if it happens on the Saturday I will lose a days pay, and I'd like to know this with as much notice as possible. I doubt anyone involved in the funeral plans has considered the impact on low paid citizens.

How does it not matter to 'us'? Maybe not you.

It matters to absolutely loads of people. People are posting about cancelled operations for their children.

blueblueskye · 10/09/2022 08:06

It’s on the Monday, I’m related to someone involved in the arrangements.

Yes, honestly, when people are still posting that after 18 pages of explanation why it matters, they're actively choosing to be dim.

It think this and other similar reasons will be why they're moving heaven and earth to have it on day 9 and not day 11 and possibly the reason for the delay.

Or I wonder if there’s a disagreement about whether it should actually be on the Sunday day 10, that would actually make the most sense overall with fitting in the timings

Morph22010 · 10/09/2022 08:25

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/09/2022 20:06

I’m sure it will be 19th. For some reason, since Covid the form has been to drip feed everything before confirming it.

This government have always done this, I work in tax and they’ve done it with tax policy since the start. It’s to gage public opinion. That way if something gets a good reaction they go ahead, a very bad reaction they don’t go ahead and pretend it was just a rumour

Morph22010 · 10/09/2022 08:28

AmongstTheCosmos · 09/09/2022 20:17

Didn't covid teach us that when schools are closed, nothing else can be fully open either?

I don't actually care if it is a bank holiday or not. But I do very very much care if schools are closed but somehow parents are expected to work anyway. Fucking how??

Covid was slightly different though as we all had to stay at home so there was no option of going to grandparents, round a friends, to a childminder etc. appreciate not everyone has those options but it still makes things slightly easier for a lot of people. I can’t actually see the point in shutting down schools though if other places are not going to close.

Morph22010 · 10/09/2022 08:35

BestCatMumEver · 09/09/2022 21:49

I’m sure if schools are closed for the day and you have young children then your employer will understand that it’s exceptional circumstances if you can’t go into work that day because you have no childcare.

Well make sure you don’t come into hospital in that case, as we’ll all be at home then looking after our kids.

There’s a few people that won’t be able to get childcare and come in but surely there’s a huge majority of the nhs that would have other child care options, another parent, grandparents, a friend, a child minder, these options weren’t available during covid which is why the provision in schools was made

EssentialGarage · 10/09/2022 08:53

Morp

Regards leaking policy I agree they do but I find it a sign of weak leadership, leaders should do what is right not what is popular.

Childcare doesn't just affect NHS workers, no plans for childcare will be a nightmare for all businesses, practically and financially.

How many businesses can afford to pay an extra day's holiday, and how many people can afford a day unpaid?

I'm starting to think we might end up with the worst of both worlds model. Schools are shut, obviously things like NHS, care etc that can't close don't, and then other sectors are optional so it ends up a patchwork and down to the discretion of individual employers. Fine if you have a flexible job, a support network, any degree of slack at all and if you won't suffer financially, not so much for the people who don't. So yes I agree, parallels with covid, especially as many of us who couldn't access schooling for our DC were still using grandparents, friend networks etc on the quiet.

EssentialGarage · 10/09/2022 09:02

Perfect combined with the keyboard warriors on FB, posting about how you are so disrespectful for opening up/how unreasonable you are for closing.

I joined in lockdown as we were allowed to open throughout lockdown but had endless fb posts saying how we were going to kill people by opening up etc.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 10/09/2022 09:07

Lockdown was such a happy time!

its come at the worst possible time, really and the days work out the worst, obviously not the fault of the queen but just talking practically. A few days later and they could have delayed till the following Saturday but it works out too long to delay from the Monday to the Saturday. Plus we are in the middle of a cost of living crisis, if we have a days shut down someone takes the hit, be it either employee or employer, some employers can afford to give everyone the day off some can’t, some employees can afford a day off without pay some can’t, there’s no one answer which makes it so difficult. I understand that the coronation will be a bank holiday so that’s another extra bank holiday coming up sometime soon. Personally I think it would make most sense to have it on the Sunday if this was at all possible as that’s the day the greatest number of people are off anyway and people working will have sorted child care as kids wouldn’t be at school anyway. Sunday seems to be ruled out as a definite no, not sure if there is any leeway on that

If this is true I'm really fucked off, all businesses need to know, not just those who the state pays the wages.

Twiglets1 · 10/09/2022 09:32

The Telegraph are saying it is very likely to be Monday 19th and they never seem to be wrong with their “predictions” (inside knowledge).
I don’t like the extremely right wing nature of that paper but I started reading it daily during the Covid crisis because their information about government decisions was always spot on and often leaked a few days ahead of the official announcement.

megletthesecond · 10/09/2022 09:38

It would be better on Saturday 24th. Keeps the kids in school and the NHS ticking over.
