Ah yes didn’t think of that

Tesco is saying no slots available on Saturday, Sunday or Monday, so they are obviously waiting to find out the date before releasing the slots again.

MadeWithCare · 09/09/2022 22:46

Tesco don't know any more than the rest of us, except that it's easier not to take the orders than to cancel them and they'll soon fill the slots for the other days, once the date is known

RibenaBiscuits · 09/09/2022 22:46

@PenguinMan

Solicitor didn't mention anything about the strikes and neither did my barrister. Just yesterday morning we were finalising everything. But was informed today that if Monday becomes a Bank Holiday then the hearing won't go ahead as the courts will be shut.

Will ask them about the strikes but it's definitely not been talked about previously.

PenguinMan · 09/09/2022 22:48

But it doesn't have to be paid which may be a problem for many parents, and this situation might not actually be classed as an emergency as its known about in advance (albeit only a week or so in advance)

No they don’t have to pay you but they do have to give you time off.

However, after speaking to some senior members of a couple different unions, they strongly believe that this would fall under exceptional circumstances (as it’s the Queens funeral and a very one off event) and you’ll be able to be paid for it.

If schools are closed then so will the majority of workplaces.
So this would mainly only affect key workers (apart from school staff) which have pretty decent unions and having an entire country event is much easier to argue than a personal event like a funeral.

How would it only affect key workers? If schools are closed everyone's kids would be home and in a world where plenty of people don't even get sick pay, they're not going to be paid for this. That's a 20% loss of pay for the week.

@RibenaBiscuits

That’s good as it sounds like it won’t affect you.

Fingers crossed that the funeral won’t impact your court hearing in any way.
Good luck.

To think the queen gave a life time of service to a country full of heartless people.

So heartless for prioritising their children and jobs over a woman they never knew and whose services they never asked for and only dubiously and peripherally benefitted from.

PenguinMan · 09/09/2022 22:51

@MadeWithCare Because schools are very unlikely to be closed.

In the event that they do, then most other places of work will also be closed apart from things like hospitals etc.

Rosebel · 09/09/2022 22:51

I thought it wasn't a BH. No one knows what will happen. Question has been asked on work chat group but I think our manager is waiting to hear further guidance. DH works for the council and has heard nothing. Children at school don't know.
I don't think it will be a BH. I think I'll still be working although I think it's likely school will close.

Yes and if most other places are closed, their hourly paid staff won't be paid. That's the poorest people losing 20% of a week's wage.

So if schools aren’t closed but my child’s private nursery is, what next ?

It’s true. How did you personally benefit from that service?

And the work won't be done, and money won't be made to cover the fixed overheads.

penguin what about the masses on non union workers, in SME all over the country?

Pumperthepumper · 09/09/2022 22:55

By having a heart and decency, I appreciated her length of service. That is a personal reaction from me and if I were still teaching, I certainly wouldn't be bitter in my depiction of her. Your attitude is shocking.

Iliveonahill · 09/09/2022 22:58

Twiglets1 · 09/09/2022 22:26

It sounds like it will be Monday 19th. Banks will be closed, ( though they won’t call it a bank holiday), schools will be closed, maybe even supermarkets will be closed (possibly at discretion of individuals companies like some close Boxing day while others open). Council workers will have the day off, transport workers etc.
Hospitals will have to stay open like they do even on Christmas Day. Frontline NHS staff who have to come in I expect will get a day off in lieu while lots of admin staff won’t come in unless absolutely necessary.

I work for a local authority. We have been told we will be open and will have 2 mins silence. I can’t see why schools should close if it’s not a bank holiday.

No, it’s your attitude that’s the problem. Blind devotion to something you can’t name even a tangible benefit from. I’m delighted you’re no longer teaching, our young people deserve better than mindless servile attitude.

ilovesooty · 09/09/2022 23:03

Culldesack · 09/09/2022 22:26

So what if you were retired. I'm 51 and retired and certainly won't be apologising to bitter teachers. It's people like that, that made me leave education. Lefties, full of their own self importance, always under the guise of being caring.

So who's politicising the thread now?

PenguinMan · 09/09/2022 23:03

Well it would be exactly the same as if their child was sick or they were sick.

When you have children you have to take these things into consideration.

And most places of business and schools have already said they will be staying open and so it really is a non issue.

MadeWithCare · 09/09/2022 23:03

It's covid all over again. All the nicely comfortable people expecting full pay desperate for a day off, while the less fortunate are desperately worried about how they can take another financial hit.

But it will be nearly all our staff that are affected.

It maybe a non issue, but until it is clarified it maybe an issue, hence the point of this thread.

Talking of mindlessness, students deserve to be encouraged to think critically, not how you demand they think. So I take it you're going to be telling your students or pupils what a waste of space the Queen was.

You can stay up on your high horse all day long; thankfully, your ignorance and misplaced arrogance doesn't affect my life.

Except the vast majority of people aren’t entitled to paid leave under the vague heading of ‘childcare’ as you originally stated as fact.
