Diana's funeral was on a Saturday.

She. Was. Not. A. Monarch.

Specifically says online that it won't be a bank holiday

Where?

EwwSprouts · 09/09/2022 21:21

Definitely the Monday. Just booked an M&S delivery into store and Monday 19th was the only day not an option.

bloodyunicorns · 09/09/2022 21:22

Will trains run on the day of the funeral?

FourChimneys · 09/09/2022 21:22

I would really hope that if schools close, there will be provision for children of NHS staff etc just like there was in lockdown.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/09/2022 21:23

Public holiday

Not a bank holiday

Not a bank holiday

What does that mean?

DD (aged 8) has a long awaited op in the hospital just across the river from Westminster on 19th. It has a long at home recovery. We have moved all sorts of work/personal commitments around to facilitate it. She is desperate to get it out the way and move on with her life.

I can’t imagine it will go ahead if it is funeral day. If by some luck it does the logistics of getting in and out when we live outside London with a poorly child is going to be much more difficult.

I’ve had to prepare her for the disappointment. She just keeps asking if we know yet.

I would like to know asap.

They won't cancel ops. Hope the op goes well and your dd recovers quickly

Online where...?
Online on Mumsnet?
Online on Reddit?
Online on the Russian government website?
Online on the Cabinet Office website?
Online on the Daily Mail website?

Not all online sources are equally authoritative. Fake news is a thing.

Wow calm down! It was the guardian

emmathedilemma · 09/09/2022 21:28

Edinburgh Evening News are unofficially reporting (which means they’ve probably copied it off Karen on Facebook), that she’ll be brought to Edinburgh on Sunday, procession from Holyrood to st Giles cathedral on Monday, and laid at rest there until Tuesday evening when she’ll be flown to London…….so if those timescales are correct a Saturday funeral seems unlikely when you see what happens once she gets to London.

What's the difference? I thought it was a choice bw Bank Holiday or "day of mourning " (which means its up to individual businesses to decide whether they want to close)?

EssentialGarage · 09/09/2022 20:49

I don't understand. How would they know? Are they doing the grub?

I would expect a more exclusive food market but the economic crisis must be hitting the royals too.

Zippy1510 · 09/09/2022 21:31

They aren’t going to trim down the 10 day official period of mourning before the funeral- that would be disrespectful. It’s going to be the Monday.

Sparklingbrook · 09/09/2022 19:23

If supermarkets are to be shut then people might want to get their groceries in.

I work in a supermarket. Looks like I'll be going in on my holiday to cover for a friend and colleague who wants to watch the funeral.

I will be absolutely amazed if they are closed.

Fairly sure she will be brought on the Royal train - which should take 1 and a bit days I think? That would mean getting into London on Thursday lunch ish then 4 days at rest would give you a Monday or Tuesday date?

Woopzies · 09/09/2022 18:28

Why? Are you doing the grub?

Superb, take a bow @Woopzies 😂😂😂

pimlicoanna · 09/09/2022 21:36

Everywhere is saying Monday so....

Chocoholic900 · 09/09/2022 21:38

I tried to book tickets to visit a UK attraction and thought it odd Monday 19th wasn't available... finally put two and two together.
All pointing to Monday 19th I reckon.

REP22 · 09/09/2022 18:58

It depends. There are certain physical functions (sorry) which have to be carried out; they may even need to do a post-mortem.

They will also need to allow for foreign heads of state and other dignitaries to make their way here, as well as the lying in state and other accepted solemnities.

It's not to be rushed through for the sake of our convenience. She only passed away yesterday.

I'm sure they are doing their best.

Why would they do a post mortem on a very elderly lady who had medical treatment from multiple doctors in the days and weeks leading up to her death?

Do you really think her death is suspicious or the cause of her death unknown ?

That won’t happen, if schools are shut then staff will want to be watching the funeral not coming in to babysit the children of NHS workers.
Sure we did it in lockdown but that was only because lockdown went on for months. When schools closed early due to the extreme heat in July, there was no special provision for children of NHS was there?

emmathedilemma · 09/09/2022 21:42

@Augend23 before her death had been announced the “operation” sites were saying royal train to London but all the more recent articles are saying flight.

gogohmm · 09/09/2022 21:44

We are expecting Monday

BeachTree · 09/09/2022 21:44

Why are humans so unable to cope. It's ONE day, surely you can sort child care, doggy day care - whatever you need.- sort it - it's only one day.
