I know this isn't important in the grand scheme of things but here we go...
My friend decorated 6 months ago and loved her living room.
Three week ago I was getting work done and showed my friend a picture of the living room I loved and the colour paint I was getting and also lamps and flooring.

She said it was lovely and loved it.
Two days ago she sent me a picture -she has just stripped her living room
She's bought the same paint and same lamps.
Saying "that colour I had was just not for me"
Although she loved it a week ago
Aibu to be a bit annoyed ?

I love having a friend who has similar taste in clothes and decor; it's great to go shopping together, we share links and go on Google hunts together, and swap stuff we no longer need.

Naturally that means our houses look very similar (yes, same paint) and we have to chat before meeting up so we don't wear the same thing! But overall it's wonderful having that connection and being able to bounce ideas off someone who really gets you.

This is us as well

And us.

Yes, it's weird!!!! Its the way she went about it all!

I'm sure all these posters saying otherwise
would be up in arms if it was their wedding dress etc. or perhaps they too do this kind of thing. Inspiration is one thing, an exact copy another.

My friend and I often like similar things (fashion etc) but we ask/tell each other if we if we get the same shoes etc, out of respect for each other, or we buy similar things. I would be flattered if my best friend did this, but not just anyone and especially parading it around & making sure they did it before me. It can be very personal choosing things for one's house, and all of a sudden what you've chosen as special for your house no longer feels that way. There are thousands of lamps & for someone to choose the exact same lamp...

I would understand similar colour and similar lamps; but an exact replica 6 months after she had decorated and beating you to it? It's just odd and rude.

I liked the other poster's take on boundaries.

Whose living room did you copy? Do you think they give a flying figg?

WonkasBooboofixer · 10/09/2022 07:31

My sil used to do this it drove me mad but she did it cheap so it never quite worked and irritated me everytime I saw it. I just left her to it she decorates every five minutes I decorate once every 4 years or so.

I can’t stand behaviour like this. It’s stalkerish. So many women like it. I’ve had same. Friend copied everything from breed of dog, holiday destination, wall colours, furnishings and presents we’d bought our child. Either you take it as a compliment as posters are saying, or you admit your friend is a bit crazy/dim and address how you feel about that.

Feature walls have had their day.
Let her have it. Find something fresher than mocha brown and cream.

I have to admit this was my first thought too when OP said feature wall. Obviously decor trends go in cycles and you should choose what you like but feature walls are becoming one of those things that instantly look dated.
