I know this isn't important in the grand scheme of things but here we go...
My friend decorated 6 months ago and loved her living room.
Three week ago I was getting work done and showed my friend a picture of the living room I loved and the colour paint I was getting and also lamps and flooring.

She said it was lovely and loved it.
Two days ago she sent me a picture -she has just stripped her living room
She's bought the same paint and same lamps.
Saying "that colour I had was just not for me"
Although she loved it a week ago
Aibu to be a bit annoyed ?

Yanbu, that’s really rude of her. What an insecure weirdo she must be 🤣

BroomHandledMouser · 09/09/2022 14:17

I’d take it as a compliment, you obviously have good taste!

A work colleague does the same. We booked France for a holiday, they booked France for a holiday. We got a hot tub, they got a hot tub. We get planning for an extension, they get planning for an extension.

I think it’s hilarious. I’ve just had my hair cut short I can’t wait to go into the office next week 🤣🤣

Annoying af lol

Where did you see it?

In her house, obviously. Like I said, I liked the combination. It had nothing to do with wanting to replicate her life because I'm obsessed with her. It had nothing to do with her at all. And before you ask, no, I don't have an imagination of my own. I take inspiration from things I see, not the people who produce the things I see.

Badger1970 · 09/09/2022 14:20

It's really bloody annoying, OP. Her lack of imagination doesn't give her a free space to use yours.

I had a friend who did the same with the stuff I used to dress my kids in. Buy them an outfit, hers got the same. Drove me batshit in the end and I started making sure that they wore leggings and plain t shirts if we ever went out with her - much to their disgust Grin

GoneWithTheWine1 · 09/09/2022 14:21

Send her a bedroom photo done out in zebra or leopard print.

Tell her you LOVE it and going to do your bedroom out right now. 😝

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/09/2022 14:23

When dh and I modernised our house, we got loads of ideas from my friend. Our houses look very different btw and the kitchens are the most similar but not the same at all. We also have very different furniture and wall colours etc so no one would guess that I had done this.

She did loads of research and I couldn’t due to poor health so I used some of the same suppliers and picked the kitchens and tiles I liked, got some really practical kitchen ideas from her and so forth. The only thing we did do was buy the same brand of appliances as she was impressed with hers.

Personally I wouldn’t mind if someone painted their walls the same colour as mine and bought a couple of the same lamps.

Was that deleted message from OP's friend?

I need inspiration for decorating. Please can you post a picture to see if I want to copy it?

Here you go Huzzah - this is going to be all the rage soon - promise...

I know! Who the eff is Sarah? 😂

Sandysandwich · 09/09/2022 14:26

I would not care at all
She saw something pretty and wanted to have it too
Its not like she stole you lamps or peeled off you wallpaper to stick it up in her house.

Those things are so common I’m not sure you can argue you’re so unique they are copying you 😂

Found a better one... Who actually bought that??

I want that now! I've been loooking at life-size resin animals to hide in the shrubbery, but this is waaaaaay better.

mam0918 · 09/09/2022 14:36

Trends in home decor mean most houses look the same.

I like my house deliberatly dated, lot of people probably think its awful that I still have lot of 90s trends but at least I never went 'live, laugh, love', grey everything, mirrored furniture or giant flocked flower statement wall phase lol.

greystarblanchard · 09/09/2022 14:36

Yanbu! It would annoy me too. I have a friend like this and I just stopped oversharing.

rnsaslkih · 09/09/2022 14:37

It’s weird behaviour to copy you like that. I wouldn’t say anything but I’d be considering whether this was the start of phasing her out.

ditch the busy carpet and sofa for wood floors and wood/leather sofa and I would love this lol.

The wood, beams and light fitting is beautiful and the full wall stone fire gives it a log cabin feel.

Marvellousmadness · 09/09/2022 14:39

You sound like a true friend

....
Not

mam0918 · 09/09/2022 14:41

chinhg · 09/09/2022 12:55

It's a light mocha /brown feature wall with the other walls cream

So nuteral/beige.

As I said my house is notibly dated the most modern room in my house was decorated approx. 2003 and has a 2 tone mocha brown feature wall and the others cream... you hardly invented it, its an old style.

lol for painting her living room brown and cream?😂

GlitteryGreen · 09/09/2022 14:44

Tell her you don't like it!! "Ooh the lamps look a bit cheap and I'm not sure about that wall colour!"

Then she'll be snookered because she'd have to admit she copied it from you 😂

JaninaDuszejko · 09/09/2022 14:45

I can see why it feels a bit weird but this is basically how fashion works and why 'influencers' are a thing.

We bought a house before the pandemic as did one of my friends and we both decorated our sitting room during lockdowns. When I went to her house for the first time post pandemic it turns out we had chosen the same colour sofas and walls! We hadn't spoken about decorating our sitting rooms so it was just coincidence.

My best friend from school and I were at University in different cities that are about 1h away from each other. When we met up (which we did regularly) we would often be wearing very similar outfits. Our friends would often ask if we had planned it but it was just that we had very similar taste (at a time when young people absolutely used their clothing to signal their tribe much more than they do now). We thought it was funny and a sign of what good friends we were. We would compliment each other on our excellent taste when we realised we'd done it yet again!

MsRosley · 09/09/2022 14:45

Take it as a bloody compliment. Irritating, yes, but also flattering. Plus you'll feel at home when you go round, won't you? 😀

HebeSunshine · 09/09/2022 14:47

saraclara · 09/09/2022 14:05

I'd wait until I was standing in her room. I'd look around, frown a bit and day "actually, this colour isn't nearly as nice as I thought. I think I'll go for something else"

Please do this, OP 😁
