I know this isn't important in the grand scheme of things but here we go...
My friend decorated 6 months ago and loved her living room.
Three week ago I was getting work done and showed my friend a picture of the living room I loved and the colour paint I was getting and also lamps and flooring.

She said it was lovely and loved it.
Two days ago she sent me a picture -she has just stripped her living room
She's bought the same paint and same lamps.
Saying "that colour I had was just not for me"
Although she loved it a week ago
Aibu to be a bit annoyed ?

OP posts:

It's a light mocha /brown feature wall with the other walls cream

They not really unique colours though are they....

Bettyboo12 · 09/09/2022 13:02

It's a bit weird and I guess if you have mutual friends that visit then I'd be annoyed. Ps can I see a pic 😂

thecatsatonthematagain · 09/09/2022 13:04

Honestly, this would annoy me too - but not for long.

A friend has copied my living room but done it loads better and keeps it tidier dammit!! Grin

Wife2b · 09/09/2022 13:06

Why on earth does it matter? Don’t we all take inspiration from others. Get a grip.

justaladyLOL · 09/09/2022 13:07

Who on earth would give a poo

prettyteapotsplease · 09/09/2022 13:07

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery as someone once said OP, I'd let it go.

Clarinet1 · 09/09/2022 13:07

Reminds me of that episode or Frasier where he is mentoring the new CEO at the radio station who then buys the apartment beneath Frasier’s and decorates it ....exactly like Frasier’s

CoastalWave · 09/09/2022 13:09

I had a friend over the other day - who announced she'd already bought my lamp and now wanted to know where my side unit was from.

I seriously can't get worked up over it!

We don't have mutual friends so no one is going to know - and she knows she's copying off me so meh.

PixellatedPixie · 09/09/2022 13:12

I understand why it’s annoying! I think it’s less annoying if people admit to copying things. I had a friend who copied the exact paint colours in the same places as my living room but it wasn’t annoying as she had just had her house renovated when I moved into my new house and she told me she wanted to copy me.

Aside from the environmental waste, I admire her energy. It takes us 6 YEARS to just contemplate re-painting the our living room, let alone 6 months.

purpliee · 09/09/2022 13:17

I've seen this episode of Frasier...

Oh god it’s going to be so embarrassing if your living rooms are both at the same wedding.

I wish we could like or upvote posts on mn because this made me laugh

JaneJeffer · 09/09/2022 13:26

Yes that is annoying.

@Tort best quote of the day, thank you

This is us as well

This happened to a friend of mine as her neighbour gradually copied almost her entire house decoration. She got quite worked up but I couldn't see the issue. I thought it was a compliment as my friend has really good taste in interior design so I could honestly see why her neighbour did it. I personally am useless at interiors and am always looking around to see who has done a really nice job for inspiration.
It's not like your rooms will be seen in public together and you probably have very few mutual visitors so I really wouldn't worry about something that doesn't harm you at all.

TheClitterati · 09/09/2022 13:32

OP - we are going to need to see the picture you showed your friend, the paint colour and the lamps. Please.

shockthemonkey · 09/09/2022 13:33

I'd be amused and weirdly flattered.

You can either have matchy-matchy living rooms, or you could find another colour scheme and new lamps.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 09/09/2022 13:33

I'd probably just laugh and say that at least I'll feel right at home next time I'm at hers. I couldn't get too worked up I'm afraid

Babyg1995 · 09/09/2022 13:37

I had a friend but it was much worse it was copying everything clothes, hair , makeup, decor absolutely everything also if I had done something she would to the exact same thing the nxt day I stopped telling her what I was upto and ended up avoiding her it was just weird .but I would say if it's a one off with your friend I wouldn't let it bother you .

But if you showed her a picture of the room that you were going to copy then there are probably hundreds of copies of that room in existence! I think you can only moan if it was your original design, which it wasnt.

Lunar270 · 09/09/2022 13:38

I agree this is weird behaviour but some just love to keep up.

We have friends who copy/outdo each other regularly. So strange and glad we're on the fringes.

Home extensions, kitchens, gardens, cars, clothes. I find it a bit cringey. Like when one got a VW camper during lockdown. The other got one and made sure it was a higher spec and made a point about it during dinner.

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 09/09/2022 12:20

Tell her it is lovely, but that you've changed your mind too and show her a different colour altogether that you've chosen with very expensive lamps to go with it. See if she falls for it. 😂

I like this!

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 09/09/2022 13:42

www.denelli.co.uk/bolero-floor-lamp.html?___SID=U tell her you bought this!

Readaboutyourself · 09/09/2022 13:44

Can we see the photo? I need some inspiration too
