A continuation from thread 2. This is a place to mourn HM Queen Elizabeth II with respect and compassion, and to share our thoughts and feelings. RIP Our Wonderful Queen.

It doesn't feel real. RIP.

It would be nice if we could just reflect on the Queen and not drag things down by badmouthing other members of the RF. They have lost their mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Let's just allow them to grieve.

This.

Think about how long its going to take to switch over things

In many ways I wish they didn’t have to. I know that’s probably not how it works though.

It almost feels like something of an erasure doesn't it?

Its the finality and abruptness of it, which almost makes it more jarring. It seeps into EVERYTHING.

Its this concept of a new era thats hard to wrap your head around.

There will never again in my lifetime be a Queens speech at Christmas. So many things now change, it’s crazy.

Was just saying that to DH. No Queen's speech on Christmas Day this year.

I didn't watch, but it's something you just have grown up with, iykwim.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 20:39

It's just surreal isn't it?

Veeragall · 08/09/2022 20:42

Today doesn't feel like a day to be negative about other members of the royal family. She may be the Queen, but she was also a much loved mum, grandmother and great grandmother. They will all be heartbroken.

I'm very sad but I already hate the poem. Sorry. It's all over Facebook.

I'm a Civil Servant and as I said before, I now work for His Majesty's....... (sorry, don't want say which department I work for, bit yih can probably work it out)
I imagine we will have numerous memos tomorrow explaining our role during official mourning and what to do for the transition.

But just to point out the big change you haven't mentioned yet - the National Anthem. It is now God Save Our King

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 20:43

Well my job involves the oath. So I am wondering about that tomorrow morning -

Household of lawyers here. Cases will be in the King's Bench Division, all the documents will need to be changed to reflect the new monarch. QCs will be KCs....

We don't know the time The Queen died. William, Andrew, Edward and Sophie didn't get there until after 5pm.

So for all we know (yet) - to use your words- she probably was long gone by the time they rocked up.

This.

There is a strong possibility she passed away nearer to noon today. I hope Charles made it to her bedside to say goodbye and be with her even if she was not aware he was there. Nobody should die alone and while she wouldn’t have been alone, having a family member there if possible would have been right.

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 20:47

Thank you for your apology vino

She must have been unwell for some time (I'm guessing) but still did as much as she was able to, astonishing resilience.

Yeah I have been wondering about that. Singing it for the first time is going to be super odd and jarring. And it will catch out so many people.

You have to wonder at what point the Aussie and the Canadians will tell Charlie to piss off now too.

I really can't get head around it. I am very much on the fence on whether I support the Royals or not. Part of me is Republican. Part of me can see the attraction.

Its just how embedded the Queen was in everyday life. People are definitely going to a fair amount of reflecting on that.

Not in the spirit

BitossiBlues · 08/09/2022 20:57

I know this shouldn't matter, but, wasn't she just absolutely beautiful! All through her life. That smile!

EdieLedwell · 08/09/2022 20:57

Can anyone confirm if William is now the Prince of Wales?

OhmygodDont · 08/09/2022 20:57

Can anyone confirm if William is now the Prince of Wales?

Not untill it’s given to him. He is however the duke of Cornwall.

JubileeTissues · 08/09/2022 20:58

"Can anyone confirm if William is now the Prince of Wales?"

No, he's the Duke of Cornwall. That title would have to be given to him by the monarch

Princess Anne was there

Veeragall · 08/09/2022 20:59

Prince Edward will become (not immediately) Duke of Edinburgh. The Queen made it known that he should be given this title, but not until after her death.

This brought a tear to my eye

I imagine the British Legion would know that Philip was spelled with one 'L' not two. Apart from all the other spelling and grammar issues, his name was not Phillip

When Charles gives William this title, will the Cambridge children become known as the Wales children. That must be confusing for children?

I think she was gone before they travelled. If she was hanging on the other grandchildren, Peter, Zara, Bea, Eugenie, and the Wessex kids would probably have travelled to see her too.

EdieLedwell · 08/09/2022 21:01

Thanks guys. Now that I think of it Charles was conferred at Carnarvon in a special ceremony

daisybrown37 · 08/09/2022 21:03

Liz Truss was told at 4.30 according to the BBC
