Wedding on day of Queen’s funeral!!!

The Daily Mail are saying funeral is on day 10 of mourning. Assuming tomorrow is day 1, is that not Sunday 18th? What happens to a wedding on that day?!

Nooooo Monday 19th would be a disaster for me I'm a family lawyer and have a really urgent court case to get my client's child back 😫😫😫

You get married, I got married the same day as Diana's funeral. It was fine and everyone had a wonderful day

Tbf this isn’t Diana’s funeral.

mondaytosunday · 08/09/2022 23:07

All the news sources say it's likely to be Monday the 19th.

TheUsualChaos · 08/09/2022 23:15

I thought it would most likely be on the Saturday like Prince Philip's was and also to avoid schools closing on the day.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 08/09/2022 22:45

Monday 19th is the first day of freshers week. I can't see it changing.

If the funeral is the 19th then universities will be closed. No lectures, no events, etc.

DrDreReturns · 08/09/2022 23:35

I was at a wedding on the day of Princess Diana's funeral. The vicar was really annoyed by the coincidence and instructed everyone to have a good time.
If your wedding does coincide with her funeral just go ahead and enjoy your day.

It'll be Monday the 19th

That's when I'm going to a wedding!

whatisthatnoise · 09/09/2022 00:50

This is the most bizarre thread I've read. All you have to do is wait a few hours and the date of the funeral will be released

PinkStarAtNight · 09/09/2022 01:01

I would cancel and rearrange for the next available date. Surely everyone involved will understand and make allowances? Very sad if they don't. Why would you want to get married and have drinks and merriment and laughter when the rest of the country is in mourning?

Towcester · 09/09/2022 01:06

Monday 19th is 11plus exam. Would that be cancelled do you think?

No it wouldn't because that is a serious and necessary event which can go ahead whilst paying respects to our monarch

Popping champagne and partying after a wedding, not so much

Potato28 · 09/09/2022 01:13

It will be Monday the 19th and it will be a bank holiday

Generally you can get married on any day of the week. But many C of E clergy will not perform weddings on Holy Saturday; (the day between Good Friday and Easter Day). By the way it is not called Easter Saturday!

I went to a friends wedding maybe 4/5yrs ago on Easter Saturday

I feel for anyone who is having a wedding on the day the queens funeral

I had 2 weddings cancelled due to covid lockdowns in May 2020 and May 2021 so I totally understands anyone distraught

This could cost thousands and thousands of pounds. It's not an office drinks party.

I don't think people are grasping that this isn't just a slightly bigger version of Diana's funeral. Its a state funeral. The last state funeral in the UK was Winston Churchill, nearly 60 years ago. It's going to be bigger than anything most of us have seen. To give you a clue what it'll entail....en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_and_state_funeral_of_George_VI#:~:text=The%20procession%20was%20broadcast%20on,treatment%2C%20and%20also%20by%20radio.

There's no point saying what will or won't happen because Britain was a very different place when we had the last Monarch's funeral, and each time things will change slightly anyway. George VI's funeral was D+9, and that wasn't affected by a weekend. No point speculating.

Eh? It's a big country and some of us serfs don't live anywhere near London.

Surely those of us who live outside the capital won't find ourselves unable to leave our homes to attend a wedding due to the size of this event!!

Whatsonmymindgrapes · 09/09/2022 04:10

Why on earth would you cancel?

I know?

Plus, people are talking as if the country's going to shut down.

That's not going to happen surely?

There will be a few road closures, people who want to will travel to London to watch the procession and gather outside Westminster Abbey, a few million will watch on TV but most people will just carry on as normal?

But judging by the dates being talked about, I'm going to be out of the country anyway so likely to miss it all.

freckles20 · 09/09/2022 04:22

@BarbaraofSeville what you're leaving the country during this period of national mourning?

I'm not sure that is going to be allowed.

You had better cancel and rearrange.

Don't complain about the cost, that would be disrespectful.

Zebedee55 · 09/09/2022 04:35

The funeral will, apparantly, be on the Monday:

My DD works in York at the Minster and the staff were all called for a meeting weeks ago to explain what would happen when the Queen died. They were advised that no weddings would take place there during the days of mourning. So I would imagine if it’s a prominent church there won’t be any weddings and the rest are at the discretion of the vicar. Town halls probably not, other civil services are unlikely to be affected.

I’d have thought so far that’s the funeral day. Schools will be closed. It’s felt that pretty much everyone should be given the opportunity to watch the funeral if they wish. I think most things will shut. I remember a lot of shops shut the morning of Diana’s funeral and that wasn’t a monarch, wasn’t a state funeral.

While I don’t agree with the panic over flights being cancelled etc, I think that there’s every possibility that things like wedding services may be cancelled. Not necessarily hotels and receptions, but church based weddings as there are likely to be rememberence services at many churches.

Sporting events are already being cancelled, some shops are closed already, while it’s hoped that there won’t be too much disruption, it’s entirely likely that there will.

this is exactly the sort of useful information I was after. Thank you.

thanks to everyone on this thread who isn’t being a capital bellend (aka the posters confused about why someone would even ask about this very obviously stressful outcome).

don’t get me started on the poster saying I’m a bridezilla for being nervous my wedding will be cancelled or at the least have a bit of a dark cloud hanging over it.
