AIBU?

To hope that not every TV channel is wall to wall coverage of the queen's death?

I loved the queen and am very very upset. But I don't want to see coverage on all channels as happened when Philip died. I want some choice.

Am I being unreasonable?

There’s loads of free view channels which will carry on as normal. Maybe the main BBC and ITV channels might focus on it a lot, but if you don’t want to watch it, there’ll be dozens of alternative channels to watch.

That's your reaction to a significant part of history, TV....? Sad. Get a book out or put Netflix on,🙄

One is a once in a lifetime event.

The other isn’t.

Go figure.

I don't want to watch wall to wall coverage about a death, no matter how historic. I watched the announcement plus some of rhe initial coverage after. Then it started to back memories of my dad's death which was upsetting me, hence wanting to go back to watching the athletics. I needed to escape the coverage by immersing myself in watching something I really enjoy watching.

The monarch and head of state just died, and we are about to have the last full state funeral probably in history. You're never going to see anything like this again in your life, this won't all happen to the same extent for Charles, William or anyone else born after her time or who was not the longest serving British monarch in history. This is a major historical event, and a major event for the UK.

I don’t think anyone bemoaned missing out on their usual Bargain Hunt fix because the actual funeral is on.
But it is going to be tribute show, documentaries and old footage non stop for the next few days. It’s predictable. It’s in many ways obligatory. But even many who are genuinely distraught aren’t going to want to watch just that for the next 10 days. I think that’s fair enough.

Turn your TV off, or put on Netflix or Amazon prime or the million other programmes available now. Or browse the web, go for a drink etc. It’s a massive historical day and the coverage will be huge for the next couple of weeks

The fella ( not "D" H ) has just moaned about the TV coverage or lack thereof
Even stating " she should have died years ago fucking state of her " yes he said that .
He is actually a vile prick sometimes
I'll say that about his mother when she dies . Not even kidding
It's not comparable but The Queen was someone's mother , grandmother and great grandmother

I thought most people watched Netflix and iPlayer anyway as there isn't us that much on TV

Yep, he would be gone. I have a few dealbreakers, when it comes to men, and being a putrid vile inhumane pig of a man who loathes the Royal family is one of them. WHY are you with this thing?

Ok. A bit of an extreme reaction.

He can not like the royal family. I don’t. My dh doesn’t. My kids don’t!

Lol this is such a short sighted post. I’m not a royalist but the last thing on my mind would be anger at not being able to watch TV. I mean, on demand content has existed for how long now? And if there was ever a day to celebrate the Queen’s life with interruptions to your normal viewing, the timing today is pertinent.

I agree, mostly watch Netflix etc but there’s a couple of things I do like to watch on what my child calls nana tv.

Probably best to find a few good series on the streaming channels or iPlayer to watch for the next week or so

There are loads of channels, even just on Freeview. Only the Beeb, ITV1, C4 and C5 are showing Queen stuff (and the news channels, I guess). Normal programming on ITV2 and ITV3. So many options. Or watch a DVD or a streamer or just do something else. No-one is "forced" to watch coverage of the historic event.

I disagree
Imagine she wasnt the Queen , imagine she was j" ust" someone's mother / grandmother/ great grandmother

She was 96 years old and looked fine to me this time last year at 95 !

It’s television.

Get a grip.

The Monarchy is an outdated and classist system which promotes and perpetuates inequality and which has no place in modern society so you get a grip.

I'd rather have the monarchy than have a politician as head of state.

But not the time for this debate. That will come soon

What is there to say that takes over BBC1 and BBC2 for hours and hours, and why no programming on BBC3 or BBC4? I did shed a tiny tear for Her Majesty, but it seems the BBC think it would be disrespectful for me to watch Master Chef.

BBC 1 and 2 are showing exactly the same programme. That's what's unnecessary. Devote one channel.

If this is in response to my OP I'm not angry at anything. I wasn't when I wrote it and I'm not now. I was speculating. I'm on holiday and have been out all day and just switched TV on. The EXACT SAME programme is on both BBC main channels. This happened with Philip.

The OP obviously wasn't around when Diana died in 1997.

I was. I was 16 and just starting A levels. I didn't watch anything to do with it other than the funeral.

I think you are wrong about lack of choice. Most people have more then just BBC 1and 2 , ITV 1 etc . We don’t have satellite TV or anything special and at the moment ITV2 and ITV3 show ordinary programs, usual coverage on Drama and 5 USA and there are others. Plus many people do have Sky, Netflix, BBCplayer, Disney +, Amazon and even YouTube. So enjoy your holiday and don’t worry about anything.
