Really hope this isn’t the end 😞

I think there is a process whereby Charles is sort of sworn in or confirmed the next day by some body of people, in private, but obv the actual crowning/coronation will be months away.

Very very pleased Charles was nearby over the summer and has been said to have popped by for near daily visits. I know she has companions, but it must have been such a comfort to have had family around, particularly following the loss of Phillip.

YesitsBess · 08/09/2022 16:31

I like to think they’ve opened a window so she can see them. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t be there, she adores those ponies and is passionate about native breeds.

That would be so lovely

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 08/09/2022 16:43

How long can the BBC keep this waffling going? Endlessly skirting around what may be about to happen without actually being able to say the words?

I wonder if an announcement is expected at a certain time, like 6pm.

TheKeatingFive · 08/09/2022 16:43

If I were Charles I would just let it go straight to William. Can he do that?

Pretty much the whole point of monarchy to not do that

sausage767 · 08/09/2022 16:43

Is that the best the BBC can do? Some talking head woman speculating that the Duchess of Cambridge is not there, when she has been pictured in the media driving the kids home from school.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/09/2022 16:43

OP, I mean this in all sincerity... have you considered counselling? To be this grief stricken by the death of someone you have only met once, isn't a friend or family member is quite frankly bizarre

I'm assuming you weren't around in 1997 when the country went collectively batshit over someone millions of them had never met and never would meet. Regardless of your opinions on whether or not someone needs counselling, the feelings they are having are their feelings and they are 100% entitled to have them. I get it - not everyone likes or respects the queen and have been pretty nasty about her on some threads. But some people do, and are entitled to find it overwhelming that she might be entering her last days and feel a sense of grief and loss.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 16:43

He might still abdicate. Handing it straight over to William is the best chance of preserving the monarchy

Waynettaaa · 08/09/2022 16:43

Tierne · 08/09/2022 16:41

@Waynettaaa
They will grieve way more than for Diana. Diana was controversial, the queen has universal respect

Yes, I agree 🙂

inappropriateraspberry · 08/09/2022 16:43

@TopBitchoftheWitches But they can announce that with breaking news, without all this guff, waffle and time filling. We don't know it's imminent, she's obviously taken a turn for the worse, but she could even recover!

stillherenow · 08/09/2022 16:43

Veeragall · 08/09/2022 16:40

@stillherenow Charles becomes king immediately on the death of the monarch. He won't be crowned immediately. We don't know when the coronation will be but the next big event would be the funeral.

Thanks , must be so off for him, so many years knowing it would happen

ArchieStar · 08/09/2022 16:43

God this is so sad. Glad I’m not alone in feeling emotional with it all. Does anyone else feel like we are stuck in some sort of weird limbo now?

stillherenow · 08/09/2022 16:43

Not off odd

MilliwaysUniverse · 08/09/2022 16:44

FarmerRefuted · 08/09/2022 16:40

Possibly once upon a time that would have been the case but the world has moved on. At most they might close for the day of the funeral if its a weekday (will likely be a Saturday).

It isn't any more likely to be a Saturday than any other day. If she passes today or in the next few days it won't be.

StressfulBedtimes · 08/09/2022 16:44

Oh gosh I’m surprised at how sad I feel about this
And also very surprised, I know she was 96 and it was obviously going to happen soon but she looked so bright just a couple of days ago

Notlosinganyweight · 08/09/2022 16:44

I think if she has already died (which could well be the case), they will not announce until about 7/7:30pm this evening.

I'm really not a fan of the royals and wasnt bothered about the jubilee, but I do feel sad. End of an era (and a bit scared about what would be coming next to be honest). Feels like a paradigm shift at the moment with everything else going on and the economy nosediving worldwide. Feels like sweeping change and this adds to it.

I had a feeling it would be soon a few days ago but did say it would be November to OH.

You'd dump the burden on your son and his young family, making your 8(?) yo grandson direct heir with all the changes that will bring to their family when you know that doing your duty could protect them fro easily a decade?

wast542 · 08/09/2022 16:45

Just a thought but perhaps the ponies are to carry the coffin?

I don’t think he’d do that to William and Kate. I’m pretty sure William is not relishing the thought of being King.

I feel similarly. I would happily do away with the institution but obviously have compassion for them as human beings, well maybe not Prince Andrew...

To be so heartless and unfeeling for someone who has given her life to being our Queen, whether you agree with the royals or not, is quite frankly bizarre - have you considered counselling for your cold heart?

dementedma · 08/09/2022 16:46

Re the ponies. Its a huge, working estate. Not unusual for animals to be moved around

Tierne · 08/09/2022 16:46

I didn't realise becoming the monarch would be seen as something to protect people from
