And yet Meghan isn't the one trying to make this thread all about Meghan....

Waynettaaa · 08/09/2022 16:39

I have been watching since the news broke. Feeling oddly emotional about it all.

Our Queen's passing will be the end of an era. I do wonder if the public will grieve as they did (or more) for Diana. I can still remember everything unfolding, and the following grief, vividly.

💐to all, who are feeling upset.

stillherenow · 08/09/2022 16:38

No they absolutely cannot close the schools again!!

It would be for a day or two, no need for dramatics.

Where are people seeing about the ponies?

At the end of the last thread a poster had seen the ponies being brought in.

Hello everyone, have ordered a McDonalds for the kids tonight because I'm glued to the news on my iPad and neglecting them! DH laughing at me for disrespecting the Queen by eating junk food, but I just want to follow his today. It might never happen again in my lifetime.

How old are you that you won't outlive 73 year old prince Charles?

Tierne · 08/09/2022 16:40

If I were Charles I would just let it go straight to William. Can he do that?

Veeragall · 08/09/2022 16:40

@stillherenow Charles becomes king immediately on the death of the monarch. He won't be crowned immediately. We don't know when the coronation will be but the next big event would be the funeral.

unicormb · 08/09/2022 16:40

I have really severe health anxiety @berksandbeyond so I never say never as I find it very triggering

Littlemisspawpatrol · 08/09/2022 16:40

I have also stuck my daughter on YouTube and got snacks out to sit and follow this. I don't know why, but it just feels like a big moment. I think it is nice to come together and celebrate the legacy of a person that the whole nation knows of. I think there will be beautiful chorus in the streets of London (most likely outside the pubs) celebrating her.

I also think maybe I just like any excuse to not cook and do housework ha.

How does the pp know about the ponies? Did they show it on BBC?

FarmerRefuted · 08/09/2022 16:40

Dinoteeth · 08/09/2022 16:37

If / when HMQ dies do schools and shops close?

Possibly once upon a time that would have been the case but the world has moved on. At most they might close for the day of the funeral if its a weekday (will likely be a Saturday).

CanadaGoose72 · 08/09/2022 16:38

I thought she looked terrible in that last photo of her. Hands were purple!

She's an amazing lady. It's so sad.

Old people bruise incredibly easily. She did look very frail though, those pictures brought a lump to my throat.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 16:41

@Waynettaaa
They will grieve way more than for Diana. Diana was controversial, the queen has universal respect

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2022 16:41

Charles could abdicate, but why would he do that?

BBC just clarified Meghan isn't going to Balmoral.

MaybeThisIsntForYou · 08/09/2022 16:41

stillherenow · 08/09/2022 16:37

I've promised dd we will watch Thor tonight as it's just come on Disney plus . I think once the announcement has been made there won't be a huge amount to say, apart from the arrangements for Charles. An article I read said he would be crowned the next day at 11am, so possibly tomorrow ? Did I read that right ?

He becomes king automatically and immediately the moment HM breathes her last, but the coronation could take a year or two to arrange.

Edward VIII was king but never technically crowned as he abdicated before the coronation.

unicormb · 08/09/2022 16:41

Closing schools not part of the protocol @TopBitchoftheWitches

TopBitchoftheWitches · 08/09/2022 16:41

inappropriateraspberry · 08/09/2022 16:32

I think it's so odd to have constant coverage. Yes, she's ill and may die soon, but are they going to have cameras in Balmoral's gates for days? I find it quite disrespectful to be honest and think they should let this play out in private.
Plus, they have nothing new to add and are repeating themselves every time I put it on.

They are waiting for the announcement, sadly.

They could well do for the day of the funeral if it happens

He could abdicate and it would go to the next in line.

But he won't.

stillherenow · 08/09/2022 16:42

@MaybeThisIsntForYou thanks, I was just reading a bit more, all the constitutional stuff is v interesting

MarisPiper92 · 08/09/2022 16:42

@stillherenow the Queen's coronation was over a year after she ascended the throne; partly because it takes a long time to plan such a huge event, and partly because a coronation is meant to be a celebration, so do it so soon after the previous monarch's death would be disrespectful. There's no way Charles would be crowned the next day.

SleeplessInEngland · 08/09/2022 16:42

This is 24 hour news at its worst. So many words and opinions for nothing actually happening.

nachoavocado · 08/09/2022 16:32

The poor grandkids too.

Hopefully they can take comfort from having reached adulthood with her and their Grandad. It's Edwards kids I feel most sorry for, I'm one of the youngest and felt that lack of my grandparents seeing me get married or have kids, stuff they'd seen my sisters do.

Dinoteeth · 08/09/2022 16:43

MaybeThisIsntForYou · 08/09/2022 16:34

Lots of possible scenarios

  • we know she loves horses and perhaps she has a favourite she wants to say goodbye to
  • these horses are needed for some sort of ceremonial duty like pulling a carriage
  • it's nothing to do with the Queen's health and they're just being moved to a new field or coming back from a gymkhana or whatever it is they'd normally be doing anyway

My money is on C.
