Plus there’s been a different number of King Charles’ in Scotland and England as well which could be awkward

I sort of feel that there needs to be some sort of mascot which reflects our history. So I suppose I’m not a republican. But I think I would have been if Queen Elizabeth were not the only Queen I’ve known. I think her, particularly, being Queen with such, I don’t know, dedication and poise in a time when other leaders seem to lack any sense of duty at all made me feel much more admiration for her than elected leaders. She certainly seemed better, and more empathetic than them (and yes, I know she has enormous unearned wealth and unparalleled power and ultimate privilege. But she seemed to wield it far more sensitively than the rest of them). I rather suspect this is the beginning of the end of the monarchy. I held her specifically in high regard, and her dignity and dedication to duty were second to none. I don’t feel remotely the same about King Charles.

So I’m very sad to see her die. And it does feel like the end of an era.

I cried when they announced it. Huw looked upset. My dad called just a minute later but he hasn't heard, had to tell him.

Think Truss did well. Glad he's sticking with Charles, it's how we've known him for such a long time. It was a strange choice of first name for the heir, but it was a very long time ago I suppose.

Its less disruptive to schools and many businesses when things happen on a Saturday.
