The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

It seems a bit off that there's a live feed on the BBC news website about it

Quartz2208 · 08/09/2022 13:17

Yes I dont think until it happens we will really grasp just how much she is there in the background of ours lives - so many things just see as normal it has her face on it (stamps/money) things that are called after her, the National Anthem etc.

Then the effect of the Commonwealth - how many countries are holding on until she has gone to remove the head of state

queenofarles · 08/09/2022 13:17

Oh no! I’m not ready 😭.

She's like 96. She's had good innings. I can't be sad about someone I've never met living to that age and dying. My MIL was a similar age and it wasn't that sad.

She's had a good life, she's got to go at some point.

It's sad when people pass on, but this is correct. She's had very good innings, a long life, achieved more than most ever will and has worked bloody hard. My nan is 86 and regularly says she's fed up and waiting for death to be back with her husband - 96 years and a 70 year reign? If her time has come she's ready to finally rest. I hope it can be more of a celebration of her life as opposed to being made into a huge negative. I say this with a lot of respect! I think that's the send off she'd want and deserve.

He'll be gutted not to be in the prime spot.

It was so obviously the only reason he didn't fully resign two months ago.

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 08/09/2022 13:17

Well as someone who is sat here beside my mother who is dying, I have nothing but sympathy for them all.

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 13:18

Running footage of the Queen now. PM made an announcement.
I feel a tiny bit sick to my stomach.

It is so very sad to see her looking so tiny and frail and then to hear this announcement. It does sound as if we are being prepared.

there is a long standing plan if she dies in Scotland - Operation Unicorn.

IHateWasps · 08/09/2022 13:18

She's woven into the fabric of our society and the lives of most of us. . The thought of there being no Queen Elizabeth II is awful and almost impossible to imagine. I feel very shaken

WTF?

If she's on the way out I wish her a peaceful passing surrounded by her loved ones as I'd wish anyone but I won't be sad let alone devastated. She's 96 and has led an incredibly privileged life and unlike many her age and younger she's never had to worry about choosing between eating and heating. Of all the things to be devastated about the death of an overprivileged 96 year old is the least of them.

Ryder68 · 08/09/2022 13:18

Im surprised that her other children wouldn't also be going to Balmoral if it's serious, as well as some of her grandchildren.

They are all the direct line of the crown. That may be why they're first to be summoned

Tierne · 08/09/2022 13:18

Maybe shes just having a wobble

gatehouseoffleet · 08/09/2022 13:18

When the Queen dies I’m not looking forward to all the nonsense that’s going to happen

No me neither. It was bad enough when Prince Philip died. Fortunately I wasn't in the UK when Diana died.

over2021 · 08/09/2022 13:18

I'm not a royalist by any means but I feel a bit out of sorts- like a weight in my stomach. Confused

Caramac555 · 08/09/2022 13:18

I admire her fortitude. During covid she at least recognised she was a leading figure and spoke to her nation. With more integrity than our politicians.

Snozzlemaid · 08/09/2022 13:18

If they're reporting her illness and family visiting, they're definitely preparing us.
They've kept her health such a secret up to now.
Very sad. For most of us she's all we've ever known.

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 13:18

I think the PM's announcement is acknowledging the grave situation.

So we should only mourn the poor then

Good on her for holding on until Boris was out. He would have done an unbearable bit of Churchill cosplay and tried to rehabilitate his image.

Not gonna lie, that did occur to me.

And Truss was a republican until joing the tories made that unfeasible.

Wouldloveanother · 08/09/2022 13:19

As the other royals are dropping everything and heading over there, it doesn’t sound good - like a ‘days, perhaps a week’ type thing. Elderly people can decline very quickly and she looked very unwell in the photo with LT.

Im not a royalist at all, but I respect the Queen, she’s really ‘served’ the nation and has been a bit of a constant throughout various bad times. I will be quite sad to hear she’s passed.

antelopevalley · 08/09/2022 13:19

I am watching the BBC News and the coverage is of the type of someone who will not be alive for much longer.
Remember the BBC coverage has been agreed in a written plan with the Queen years ago. So this will all have been decided for a long time.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/09/2022 13:19

I'm saddened by the news as she reminds me very much of my DM who would've been 96 too
I thought she looked incredibly frail on Tuesday and I did wonder if her bruised hand was caused by a cannula
They rarely announce her medical details so it is worrying. William is travelling up. I believe Charles is with her now

mscampbelle · 08/09/2022 13:19

I was shocked to see the photograph of her with Truss the other day - she looks very frail, but incredible she was able to perform that duty - over the moon that Boris is over I expect!

I'm surprisingly sad - maybe because my late Mum loved her (and was a bit like her!) and so it's another connection to my life with my Mum going.

I don't know if the Queen did a good job, she's there to protect the status quo - and she did that well.
The positive campaigning she could have done is a sadly lost opportunity.

HuzzahIndeed · 08/09/2022 13:19

It's not looking good when family are travelling to her and HOC is making announcements.

I feel a bit... I'm reluctant to say "sad" in way as I don't know her (and I think the royal family are antiquated and should go) but I guess it is sad in the same way as something that has been there all your life suddenly isn't and it is sad when anyone loses a family member.

Blossomtoes · 08/09/2022 13:19

CanThisBe · 08/09/2022 13:00

Why is she at Balmoral? Such a long way for all the "VIPs" who need to visit . I didn't think it was a particularly favourite place of hers?

No VIPs need to visit. Balmoral is the best place for her, she loves it and it’s remote from the media so she has privacy. I hope her passing is easy and peaceful. She’s a remarkable woman.
