The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

It's sad because she has been there, for most of us, our whole lives. And it's a reminder of the fact that things end, people close to us will die too, etc. It always makes me sad to watch funerals - even totally fictional ones on tv and the like - because of what it reminds me of: funerals I've been to, those that will be coming.

And it is another symbol of change, which we are going through a great deal of at the moment. People want some constants at a time like that, and so the Queen dying would represent yet another thing that is unpredictable and uncertain in our lives. Change might be good change, but it can still be upsetting.

Im surprised that her other children wouldn't also be going to Balmoral if it's serious, as well as some of her grandchildren.

Absolutely. And deraillers and conspiracy theorists should bear this in mind.

I agree.

Can the lunatics and Royal haters all fuck off please? You're entitled to your opinion but this isn't the place. Many people will be genuinely upset by this.

Hear hear.

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 13:05

I personally will be devastated when she dies. I met her only once in my lifetime. She to me is the very epitome of strength, grace, steadfastness and her resolute determination to serve our country and the commonwealth can not be compared.

The Queen is the most iconic woman in the whole world.
She needs no introduction, and everyone on the planet knows who she is.
There is no one that compares to her, no one.

Our wonderful Queen is dying, and I am feeling truly devastated

I'm not a royalist, but I don't think the national pscyhe has really prepared itself for this. On top of (waves hand) everything else.

Agree. I'm no royalist either but I think this will hit the country hard

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 13:06

Prince Charles will be a reluctant King I think, not as popular.

TheLoupGarou · 08/09/2022 12:53

I like the Queen. I'll be sad when she passes away, in an abstract sort of way.

Realistically she's 96, her health has been failing recently and she will not live forever. She's had a bloody good run.

Me too, not a royalist but I love and respect our queen.

Charles and Camilla on the other hand....

Strokethefurrywall · 08/09/2022 13:06

Same @SleeplessInEngland

I'm not a royalist, but I'm very fond of the Queen. Shes been the thread through the fabric of British life for all the generations alive today.

ListenLinda · 08/09/2022 13:06

It may be that her other children & Grandchildren may not get there in time.

I felt like we are being prepared when i saw the Buckingham Palace statement on FB. Remarkable lady.
I do hope she gets well, but she does look frail. Great age

I agree with this.

I think the strategy is to drip feed her serious medical condition to the press, so that when she does pass away it won't be a massive shock.

PlanetNormal · 08/09/2022 13:07

As a lifelong Republican, however much I oppose the monarchy, I still have enormous respect for the Queen. I wish her and her family well.

@LookItsMeAgain yes, I noticed what looked like bruising.

Bruising is usually from having an IV line.

She's like 96. She's had good innings. I can't be sad about someone I've never met living to that age and dying. My MIL was a similar age and it wasn't that sad.

She's had a good life, she's got to go at some point.

Exactly.

Endlesssummer2022 · 08/09/2022 13:07

No wonder so many kids have anxiety issues these days if parents are sitting down with them to ‘prepare’ them for the Queen dying. Plus there are people who know it’s one of the Princes first day at school?

Some of you lot must be the type that sleep outside Buckingham Palace at night decked out in union jacks so you can be at the front waving flags when they walk by.

TheSpottedZebra · 08/09/2022 13:08

I'm NO royalist and I don't 'love' anyone I don't know let alone the queen.
But I admire her fortitude and hard work and wish her a gentle passing.

Elderemo · 08/09/2022 13:08

I met her once, when I was 7. She struck me as being a very kind woman, i remember rehearsing with my classmates for weeks and trying to perfect my curtsey.

I'm no royalist but I'll be saddened deeply by her passing.

Lockheart · 08/09/2022 13:08

Oh dear. It doesn't sound positive, but she is 96 bless her. None of us live forever.

When she does go, she will be the last female monarch most or all of us will ever see (I suppose some very young children born recently might get one if George has a daughter first) which is a sad thing I think.

Lonelycrab · 08/09/2022 13:08

Agree 100%

TugboatAnnie · 08/09/2022 13:08

Hope she has a comfortable passing whenever it happens. It will be strange, most of the population have never known another head of state.

NovaDeltas · 08/09/2022 12:48

I don't understand how anyone can 'be sad' about a stranger so distant they may as well be a character in a book.

Missing the point but you are never sad for a character in a book? I'm always crying at novels 🤣

Izzy24 · 08/09/2022 13:08

Plumbear2 · 08/09/2022 13:05

I will feel sad. She has been a constant figure my whole life. She has been queen for the whole of my parents life. I've never met her but it will feel very strange without her.

Yes, this.

Ang69 · 08/09/2022 13:09

Have been dreading this but knew it was coming. I really hope she recovers and has some more time. As for those asking what she has done for us - she has given her life for this country and is the glue that holds the UK together. I know not everyone is a Royalist, I'm married to a French Republican but even he respects and admires the Queen for all she has done. I do think it will be a hard blow to many when she passes.

Teacup7 - are you for real or just a wind-up merchant. If it's the former then you need some serious help.

I cry when characters in books die.
