The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

Who announces it if she's passed? BBC News, Liz Truss or Charles? I'd guess not Charles, that would be savage.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/09/2022 15:09

Is it appropriate that BBC1 has cameras fixed on Balmoral gates & are broadcasting about her life - feels a bit bad taste to me

Bound to happen and it could be worse - they could have drones up, watching the family all entering the place

Although they'd probably be shot down ...

Big hand hold for those feeling triggered or already fragile by their own bereavements and loss 💐

I truly thought the Queen would go on for years, and it was almost las if she become immortal in our psyche.
Despite registering how frail she is, she looked very spritely yesterday. It’s moved very fast - even if expected.

You never know
my neighbour's mum is 102

i see her every Christmas. There has been a big change in the last couple of years, but she was 98 when I had my first Christmas without my dad, and she comforted me with the strength and skill of a woman 30 years younger.

ListenLinda · 08/09/2022 15:09

Are all the family there now?

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 15:09

The Prime Minister will make the announcement

I don't have live TV, I hope they are not being ghoulish.

Definitely not Charles. Someone needs to announce him King do they not?

Tierne · 08/09/2022 15:10

I dont think there would be quite this much intense coverage if she was just having a really bad spell, actually 😪

Chevyimpala67 · 08/09/2022 15:10

I imagine any announcement will be made on the 6pm news.

I think this is the revelant para on whats public on whats known about Operation London Bridge:

A footman would pin a dark-edged notice to the gates of Buckingham Palace. At the same time, the palace website would display the same notice.[1] The Parliament of the United Kingdom and the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish parliaments would meet as soon as is practical or be recalled if they are not sitting.[3] The prime minister would address the House of Commons. The new monarch would host a meeting with the prime minister and then deliver a speech to the nation at 6 p.m., the evening following the Queen's death.

Good luck with recalling the NI Assembly.
The DUP will gave to decide between disrespecting the Queen and accepting a Sinn Fein First Minister.

They can't have cameras on the gate and prattle on for nearly 3 hours.

LicoricePizza · 08/09/2022 15:12

RedToothBrush · 08/09/2022 15:02

Protocol is to post an announcement on the gates of Buckingham Palace. Its possible that if she's at Balmoral they would do it there.

So yes, it probably is in line with protocol.

Protocol surely to be followed re how it’s announced etc but protocol to film everyone coming & going while she’s dying??

My friend works for the royal household. They are often the last to know - they only twigged that Prince Philip had died when they saw HMQ getting in a car wearing a black dress.

Gosh, that's interesting. Although I'd guess the arrival of the entire Senior Tier might give an indication. They'll be sorting rooms, ensuring the favourite toothpastes etc are all laid out. The busyness, plus the arrival of the world's press at the gates may signify An Event. Rumours will be rife.

TheKeatingFive · 08/09/2022 15:13

It's not a board meeting

Its not me struggling to get that. Just very bizarre that a poster thinks their view that 'she should be in Frogmore' is of any relevance to anyone at all.

Vapeyvapevape · 08/09/2022 14:59

Whether you like the royals or not, the Queens passing is an historical moment.

Seismic.

We’ve all carried her image in our pockets from the first time we had coins.

There is no bigger figure on the planet.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 15:13

I bet that Boris Johnson is a lot miffed he can't make this huge announcement ( because it will be) and arrange her funeral.

EmmaH2022 · 08/09/2022 15:13

I've been called to dad's death two times before he died, two or three for mum, who is still here. Much younger, yes, but you never know.

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 15:09

The Prime Minister will make the announcement

Oh I've just read the announcement will be made by the royal household

Saloop · 08/09/2022 15:14

They won’t wait until 6pm. There will be a breaking news announcement whenever it happens and the right people have been told first

LicoricePizza · 08/09/2022 15:14

EmmaH2022 · 08/09/2022 15:06

A lovely moment in time, thank you for reminding me.

Wow!

Saloop · 08/09/2022 15:14

They put the announcement on the gates and tell the BBC/world service

LadyKenya · 08/09/2022 15:14

FabbyO · 08/09/2022 15:07

Fucking hell.

@LadyKenya when you say you report and pick up on racists posts do you include posts like this or do you just focus on those talking about Meghan? I agree posts about Meghan you complained about were inappropriate and unpleasant. One of those posts you said you reported though may not racially-motivated but motivated purely by dislike for her, it didn't hold any racist content. Whereas this...!

Never fails to amaze me how overt racism against Chinese people seems to get more of a pass.

No I do not just focus on posts directed at Meghan. I will report racist post full stop, If I see them. It sadly is a continuous feature on MN.

LookItsMeAgain · 08/09/2022 15:14

@the80sweregreat - Her funeral has already been arranged. It's been arranged for decades at this point. I would say though that Bo Jo is spitting feathers that he's not the one at the dispatch box ready to make whatever announcement will be made.

PlanetNormal · 08/09/2022 15:15

If I were in Central London, I might be having a wander up Whitehall to see if preparations (eg cameras, lights, sound, rigging) are being made in Downing St for an announcement.

EbbyEbs · 08/09/2022 15:15

They’re talking as though she has already died. Sky news havnt reported on anything else since lunch time.

Wasn’t that long ago she was riding horseback. You have to admire her
