The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

Did anyone hear that phone ringing in the background of BBC News then? Every little thing that happens is putting me on edge.

Yes I did. Also wondering what it means.

Yeah and lot of whispering

ItsaMetalBand · 08/09/2022 15:04

I'm not from the UK but if there's 10 days of mourning, does that mean for the RF themselves or the entire country such as workplaces or offices shutting?

RedToothBrush · 08/09/2022 15:04

I think this is the revelant para on whats public on whats known about Operation London Bridge:

A footman would pin a dark-edged notice to the gates of Buckingham Palace. At the same time, the palace website would display the same notice.[1] The Parliament of the United Kingdom and the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish parliaments would meet as soon as is practical or be recalled if they are not sitting.[3] The prime minister would address the House of Commons. The new monarch would host a meeting with the prime minister and then deliver a speech to the nation at 6 p.m., the evening following the Queen's death.

Honestly, the reporting seems as if she has died already. It's horribly mawkish level of watching every car arrive etc.

Doesn't look good that the BBC reporters are all in black already...

The mood is very, very sombre...

Dinoteeth · 08/09/2022 15:04

How would they announce it?
Like other Royal stuff, a man with a plack to put outside the gates?

Loachworks · 08/09/2022 15:05

Very sad. I'm not a fan of the rest of them but respect Her Majesty. I'm glad she got to see her jubilee and the nation's response to it.

Brighton5555 · 08/09/2022 15:05

I think once all family are present they will announce it but I feel she’s already passed

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 15:05

Big hand hold for those feeling triggered or already fragile by their own bereavements and loss 💐

I truly thought the Queen would go on for years, and it was almost las if she become immortal in our psyche.
Despite registering how frail she is, she looked very spritely yesterday. It’s moved very fast - even if expected.

Nick Witchell has JUST said that as far as he is concerned Bucks Palace have said no announcement is IMMINENT despite the rumours online. He is awaiting further news.

Right now we have a female monarch, a female PM, and a female deputy PM

A lovely moment in time, thank you for reminding me.

Wikipedia page

No - the nation is officially in mourning and flags will be flown at half mast, but only the funeral day is an official day of mourning and it is not a "bank holiday", so any decision on shop or office closures is down to businesses themselves.

Whatadayyyy · 08/09/2022 15:06

The guy on Bbc is talking like she is already dead!

Muminabun · 08/09/2022 15:06

The queen embodies a nation. To say her death would be meaningless is completely ignorant. Even if you aren’t a royalist. I feel very sad about her passing and agree it will be awful for national morale on top of everything else.

TrueNorthernBird · 08/09/2022 15:07

Imagine being a member of the Household staff - Butlers etc - often they’ll have been working for the family for years and 'know' them relatively well. They'll be around such a sombre mood but need to keep working - indeed will probably pride themselves on doing so - whilst being upset and sad.

I find that unbelievably fascinating. Extraordinary lives all round.

@LookItsMeAgain I'm in Scotland. What are the Scottish rules around mourning?? Do we do it differently to England?

Only seeing this now (this thread is moving crazy fast).

The rules and protocols around mourning are particular to Her Majesty if she happens to pass away in Scotland to those that would be followed if she passes away in England. That's what I meant by my earlier post.

RF I think. Not possible anyone would agree for 10 days off because queen died. Employers won’t pay for it!

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 15:07

I would also note that this an enormous moment to face as a Prime Minister appointed only hours ago.

Fucking hell.

@LadyKenya when you say you report and pick up on racists posts do you include posts like this or do you just focus on those talking about Meghan? I agree posts about Meghan you complained about were inappropriate and unpleasant. One of those posts you said you reported though may not racially-motivated but motivated purely by dislike for her, it didn't hold any racist content. Whereas this...!

Never fails to amaze me how overt racism against Chinese people seems to get more of a pass.

Oysterbabe · 08/09/2022 15:08

The jubilee was a wonderful celebration of her service. I will always remember her sketch with Paddington, she's has a great sense of humour and fun.

Chevyimpala67 · 08/09/2022 15:08

I think she probably had a stroke in the night and has perhaps already sadly passed.

I'm a Republican but HMQ is very possibly the most well known person in the world.

As a historian it's fascinating to see history in the making.

It will, indeed be an end of an era - the 2nd Elizabethethan age.

My friend works for the royal household. They are often the last to know - they only twigged that Prince Philip had died when they saw HMQ getting in a car wearing a black dress.

PlanetNormal · 08/09/2022 15:08

It’s very clear from Huw Edwards’ & Nick Witchell’s sombre dress and tone that this is only going to end one way, and it’s highly likely they have information that hasn’t yet been made public. It’s a waiting game now.
