The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

Huw and Nick seem to be struggling with the present tense. They haven't slipped yet

Pretty sure she is dead already

Where has that been announced?!

SueSaid · 08/09/2022 14:38

Sad news but surely not altogether surprising at 96. Yes it will be the end of an era but I absolutely dread the wall to wall coverage from everyone she ever spoke to in the coming days/weeks.

You're lying. Why would you say that?

It astonishes me that either of them would think it appropriate Meghan should be there. Kate, Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara are not travelling there but she is

She's travelling as it is. The others are at home with their kids presumably. What do you expect Meghan to do? No one's saying she's being invited into the royal bedchamber.

I expect her to remain at Frogmore Cottage in London - away from the family she has done nothing but criticise and complain about for the last 20 months, no longer wishes to be part of and could not wait to get away from. The last thing they need is her there with them at this very worrying time for them, having to watch everything they say incase it ends up in a podcast or interview or her journals.

I was at university when Diana died and the scale of emotional incontinence that erupted across the UK was indeed a bit unsettling. A nationwide game of performative public grieving Top Trumps. No quiet moment of reflection or somber chat with close friends but wailing group hugs in public and harassing people for not being upset enough. All very strange.

I was 7 when Diana died, and it's like a core memory the classroom teacher bursting into tears to tell us "The princess has passed away" and I remember Sam Evans shouting and shocked "Cinderella is dead?"

We were 7 and the teacher was far too OTT about it looking back 🤦🏻‍♀️

That Diana week of mourning was so surreal
It was a strange time

christmas2022 · 08/09/2022 14:39

Will be glued to the news for the foreseeable. This message seems to have a different tone to it with all the well wishes coming in.

RedToothBrush · 08/09/2022 14:40

Even twitter isn't saying that.

And Christ MNHQ are quick on the draw this afternoon!

Tierne · 08/09/2022 14:40

Harry and Megan weren't in Germany today. They are touring the UK.

Not really your call though, is it?

This. The nation is about to become unhinged.

I'm not sure that's true, people are well prepared for the Queen's eventual death. She is 96 years old.
Whereas Diana was very young and died tragically. It was the shock that really hit people.

mamabear715 · 08/09/2022 14:40

If I don't watch TV, can I tell myself it's not happening? :-(

Bit odd you were at school when Princess Diana died on a Sunday....?

Go back under your bridge, hairy.

Surely @ghislane9 is being sarcastic?

EdieLedwell · 08/09/2022 14:40

All the Meghan haters making it about Meghan.

BloodyHellKen · 08/09/2022 14:41

LookItsMeAgain · 08/09/2022 14:33

In all fairness @BloodyHellKen - I think Maggie Thatcher had a far more reaching and impactful leadership that genuinely hit every one in the UK in their pocket and many many lost their jobs when she was in power. Her decisions affected how so many lived and were able to live their lives.
It's no wonder that they were dancing in the street when she passed. I don't think there would be the same conduct when Her Majesty does pass away.

@LookItsMeAgain I hear what you're saying. I remember both Maggie becoming PM and her tearful car journey from number 10 and I wasn't her biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination. However, I think it is distasteful to celebrate when someone dies. If someone's death is a relief fair enough, but dancing in the street is not good form.

I still maintain when someone dies it's better to stay quiet if you have nothing nice to say. Apart from anything else it hurts the grieving family.

Sharrowgirl · 08/09/2022 14:41

Its sad. She’s living history….all the people she’s known and met - Churchill, JFK, Edward VIII….people who are now just historical figures but she is a living person who could still tell us what they were like.

icelolly12 · 08/09/2022 14:41

`A bit different with Diana who died so young in an accident leaving behind two young boys. That was a tragedy. The death of a 96 year old is to be expected so I wouldn't imagine the same sort of public hysteria, I think it will be more sombre.
