The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

"Is Huw Edwards wearing a black tie on the news? She's not dead yet!"

According to pretty much everyone on this thread she is but we haven't been told ... yet

The fact that she saw the new PM just a few days ago is evidence of the Queen's utter devotion to duty.

Is Huw Edwards wearing a black tie on the news? She's not dead yet!

The BBC got absolutely slated when Peter Sissons announced the Queen Mother’s death in a burgundy tie. They’re taking no chances

JustLyra · 08/09/2022 14:26

Why? Harry and Megan are together so makes sense to travel together.

Plus Kate isn’t going because of the children and we’ve no idea about the others.

She may have travelled there but I very much doubt that she will see the Queen or others. Especially as most of the grandchildren aren't there. I imagine she will go to wherever they will staying whilst there on the estate.

Go back under your bridge, hairy.

LookItsMeAgain · 08/09/2022 14:33

In all fairness @BloodyHellKen - I think Maggie Thatcher had a far more reaching and impactful leadership that genuinely hit every one in the UK in their pocket and many many lost their jobs when she was in power. Her decisions affected how so many lived and were able to live their lives.
It's no wonder that they were dancing in the street when she passed. I don't think there would be the same conduct when Her Majesty does pass away.

@TheKeatingFive

I was wrong - didn't even wait for the Queen to be dead. 🙄

Can one go to an early grave at 96?

SunflowerOrange · 08/09/2022 14:35

I guess he'd have the black tie on just in case as you can hardly change tie mid presenting.

Would they actually tell the BBC if she'd died or have they inferred it? Would we ever know.

It all feels so sad.

Vapeyvapevape · 08/09/2022 14:35

@ghislane9 dint be daft, 96 is hardly an early grave .

I prepared my children for the strange behaviour that they will likely witness when she does pass. The way people behaved when Diana died was really unsettling, way more than her actually dying.

I was at university when Diana died and the scale of emotional incontinence that erupted across the UK was indeed a bit unsettling. A nationwide game of performative public grieving Top Trumps. No quiet moment of reflection or somber chat with close friends but wailing group hugs in public and harassing people for not being upset enough. All very strange.

LookItsMeAgain · 08/09/2022 14:35

I have the telly on in the background while I'm working and I noticed the last time the cameras were on Huw Edwards, his eyes were darting all over the bank of screens that he has access to at the news desk. It's like he has access to information that the rest of us don't. At least not yet anyway.

ScholesPanda · 08/09/2022 14:35

I'm surprised by how sad I feel about this. She really has been the nation's rock, through good and bad. She's always been there, a constant reassurance. The end of an era, and I worry about the future.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/09/2022 14:36

How dare Meghan go and see her. It is her and her ridiculous podcasts that are sending her to an early grave

You're undoubtedly more upset by Meghan than the Queen ever was, but you haven't died of it yet.

I was ridiculous, and ironically the queen's stoicism about it made her less popular during that period.

Perhaps one can infer that she wouln't want it repeated for her.

I'm very sad, not in a ‘public outpouring’ sense, I dislike the over dramatic nature of public weeping and flower throwing, but in a respectful way. This lady has a sense of duty, a high regard for people and for family.
I feel our country will lose its steer.

I think there will be a huge over dramatic outpouring as a release for all that we are going through as a country. An overly melodramatic response spilling over from frustrations and concerns at this shit show of a country.

RedToothBrush · 08/09/2022 14:37

Huw and Nick seem to be struggling with the present tense. They haven't slipped yet, but there does seem to be a tone that is hard to explain over tripping over the is/was thing.

There will be tonnes of info coming in and he's looking to see what is next. I'd not tad too much into it. But the presenter at balmoral is in a black coat so it's obviously imminent.

missbipolar · 08/09/2022 14:30

Apparently even Harry and meghan are going to Balmoral. I don't think they'd be going if it wasn't bad 😭

Zara and Harry were always reported to be the queens closest grandchildren (although I suspect that changed recently due to location)

Wonder if anyone is springing a helicopter for Zara

PlattyJubes · 08/09/2022 14:37

Crikey, some of the posters on here remind me of childhood bullies. They can't wait to belittle others and proudly announce that they feel nothing and that a nation in mourning is just performative.

Perhaps if you can't say anything nice ...
(Oh but it's a public forum so I can spew my bile too you know.) Yes you can, but it's not big and it's not clever either.

SallyWD · 08/09/2022 14:37

Like many I am no royalist. I really have no interest in most of them. I have no idea whether I would have liked the Queen if I met her. I couldn't tell you much about her personality. I don't know if she is kind or unpleasant - yet still I do feel sad. Like others have said, it's the fact she's always been there. She's a symbol of stability. She never did anything wrong, that I can remember. She was steadfast and calm. She was around around when my grandparents (who are now long deceased) were young. For these reasons it feels very strange that she might be dying. It also made me think of mortality in general - my dad is in his 80s in poor health and when I heard about the Queen I started crying to think about HIM dying soon.
