The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

What do you expect Meghan to do?

Go back to wherever they are lodging tonight? Or do you think they're touring the UK in a camper van?

SleeplessInEngland · 08/09/2022 14:29

I don't buy into the "nation's granny" nonsense but sociologically nothing like this has every really happened in our lifetimes - she was the british first monarch on tv. There will be a gulf, and how we collectively respond to it will be fascinating.

I prepared my children for the strange behaviour that they will likely witness when she does pass. The way people behaved when Diana died was really unsettling, way more than her actually dying.

This. The nation is about to become unhinged.

EverydayIsPJday · 08/09/2022 14:29

@IHateWasps sorry, but you're hanging around for what purpose now? to reiterate your own opinion? To ridicule people that do care? Slow clap for you....

Trespatch · 08/09/2022 14:30

The BBC have suspended usual programmes and Harry & Megan are on their way to Balmoral - it definitely looks as though the Queen is very poorly indeed.

I'm not a royalist as such but I feel incredibly sad for the family, and it'll definitely have a huge effect on the country.

It astonishes me that either of them would think it appropriate Meghan should be there. Kate, Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara are not travelling there but she is

She's travelling as it is. The others are at home with their kids presumably. What do you expect Meghan to do? No one's saying she's being invited into the royal bedchamber.

Give it time - there will doubtless be threads blaming Meghan when she dies.

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 08/09/2022 14:28

It ought to expected that spouses will join the group and no doubt Harry will need to lean on his wife for support.

Exactly.

Kate isn’t there because it’s the Cambridge children’s first day at their new school. Which means it’s likely first day back at school for other kids as well hence some people not travelling.

It would be more bizarre if Meghan hadn’t travelled with him.

I too feel sad about this news and I’m not a royalist.

One thing we can be thankful for is that Boris Johnson is No get Pm and we won’t have to listen to him pontificating about the Queen.

Amen to that.

I hope she's ok - she looked frail but certainly not at death's door in the photo with Liz Truss.

Quite often dying people will have a brief period where they 'perk up' and suddenly seem like they've begun to get well again. My Dad did before he died (which incidentally was the last time I saw him), he suddenly had colour in his cheeks and didn't look utterly drained. By 7am the next morning he'd passed

blitzen · 08/09/2022 14:30

Has anyone else noticed the queen's hands look really blue in the photo? Maybe poor circulation.

Elderemo · 08/09/2022 14:30

The way people behaved when Diana died was really unsettling, way more than her actually dying.

I was 16 when Diana died. My Dad woke me up to tell me there had been an accident. I remember being bewildered by the way everything seemed to change. He was dead himself a week later.

missbipolar · 08/09/2022 14:30

Apparently even Harry and meghan are going to Balmoral. I don't think they'd be going if it wasn't bad 😭

83DanishMum · 08/09/2022 14:31

It strikes me that she is someone who has lived a life of authenticity, a word that often gets over-used and wrongly applied, but which is totally apt for her. Whether or not you agree with the Monarchy, she believed in her duty and she lived it fully and to the very end, as evidenced by Tuesday this week.

I hope she feels peaceful and loved.

I know right 🤯

Brighton5555 · 08/09/2022 14:31

You often see this where in a elderly couple once one passes over it’s not long for the next … it’s incredibly sad if her time is coming now .. Crowd barriers, the unusual announcement from the palace on her health, the speedy travel of her family including p**ck Harry… it’s not looking positive ..

im not overly into the royal family but she’s filled her role for 70 years .. and matched her handbag to her outfit flawlessly.

God save the queen xxx

CrabbitBastard · 08/09/2022 14:31

The fact that she saw the new PM just a few days ago is evidence of the Queen's utter devotion to duty.

Is Huw Edwards wearing a black tie on the news? She's not dead yet!

Her and Harry are in Germany, do you expect her to stay there while he travels over?

The only reason Catherine hasn't travelled is because her kids are in the middle of their first day at school.

I know that. If I did the post would be deleted!

& in turn I can have MY say & YOU don't get to police MY posts.

I do get to tell you not to tell others what to post. Which is what I did. You get that, right?
you obviously didn’t like it but that’s my right!

RebOrHon · 08/09/2022 14:32

The messages of support and offering of prayers from the heads of various faiths underline the seriousness of the situation. I’m afraid it’s very much ‘when’, not ‘if’.

The news coverage is unprecedented. I see that BBC reporters are already wearing black. The reporter outside Balmoral is on a tightly done up black trench; in the studio, Hugh is already in a black suit & tie. They might be buying time to allow the RF to assemble before issuing any confirmation.

I’n very far from being a royalist but I do admire the Queen. She’s an icon whose public service has spanned two centuries and she will be missed.

firef1y · 08/09/2022 14:32

Not being funny, bit she's in her late 90s. Why are people shocked that she's frail and coming close to EOL??

PlanetNormal · 08/09/2022 14:32

If anyone with an interest in these things haven’t seen this article, it sets out in detail what happens when the Queen dies.

Yes that is so true. He didn't deserve the opportunity to carry out that particular sad duty, given he lied to the Queen.

KimberleyClark · 08/09/2022 14:32

Wow! How cold. So if you hear of a local elderly person passing away you don't feel sad in the slightest? That's not right....

If I heard of the peaceful passing of a local 96 year old I didn’t personally know, I’d feel sad for their family and friends. But I wouldn’t feel a personal sense of loss. I’m not a Royalist but do respect the Queen.

yes he is.

Looks like most of them have either put a black suit jacket or tie on at the moment.
