The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

It will be sad but fuck me they will be going on about it for weeks.

I don’t mean to be so morbid but do you think she’s died and the bbc knkw but for some reason the official announcement is being put on hold. Because otherwise it’s a bit presumptuous for Huw Edwards tk be wearing a black tie

I wonder if it's just that it's better than having to suddenly change out of a pink one? Although he could wear a more sombre blue or dark purple.

greenhousegal · 08/09/2022 14:03

Is Anne in Balmoral also, and what about Andy and Edward? She has four kids. But maybe they are already there.

It sounds ominous, and we are being prepared for sure. As with anyone, what would you wish for them but a peaceful pain free death surrounded by your family.

I just have this horrible feeling that she has gone already, but that they arent telling us until the family have all been gathered and have had a few hours to process it together 🥺

Any delay won’t actually be about the family - they won’t get that consideration.

It’ll only be announced after the PM, and all the commonwealth leaders, then world leaders, are told.

Previously they could have done all that with the public having no clue, but with social media we’d know that they’re al heading for/in Scotland so they’ve had to announce that bit.

Wilkolampshade · 08/09/2022 14:03

@CanaryShoulderedThorn love to you. 💐

Knuddlebär9 · 08/09/2022 14:03

Typo Huw. And yes they both seem a little upset

As PP have said, there are very detailed plans and protocols for this, so it's possible yes. I think also the are trying to be respectful in case they do have to make an announcement that she has sadly died. They wouldn't want to do that in a jazzy tie or something.

Elderemo · 08/09/2022 14:04

Huw Edwards seems very, very sombre. Worrying.

RampantIvy · 08/09/2022 14:04

Perhaps there could be a separate 'i don't give a fuck' thread for people who can't possibly breathe without saying it

Except that it would be taken down. I'm disappointed at the lack of social awareness by the IDGAF posters. The queen has been part of everyon'es lives on here in one way or another, and it feels like the end of an era.

I get that not everyone is a fan of the royal family, but this is really not the time and place to belittle other people's feelings or show what an insensitive arsehole they are.

@RiftGibbon Yes actually, my violent, abusive, wife and children battering late BIL.

Held a party when he checked out.

This will indeed be a good test of how long a major one-off story can last in a modern news cycle.

QuebecBagnet · 08/09/2022 14:04

Nicolas Witchell sounds emotional.

Knuddlebär9 · 08/09/2022 14:05

@greenhousegal all there or on the way

RiftGibbon · 08/09/2022 14:05

Kermit - I'm so sorry you were treated so badly. I can fully understand why you'd be glad. I hope things are infinitely better for you now.

Maybe the different Scottish mourning rules is to do with the time between death and burial?

I would think it's more of a state plan, like we'll have condolence books at x, y, and z for example.

Although when Diana died I never met a soul who gave a shite so maybe that's the difference.

Nicely backtracked.
nobody is being ‘unkind’. She’s not your family. Don’t be so patronising.

Thanks…! I virtually moon walked, eh.

I think it’s unkind. Our opinions differ.

The new BBC signer is also all in black.

I think he's wearing blue

In what way has she been a meaningful part of your average person's daily life?

Nobody. Nobody has said they DGAF.

PlattyJubes · 08/09/2022 14:07

I think it is v imminent particularly if Harry and Meghan have already landed.

I feel v sad. She's a connection to my grandparents and a society that I remember growing up in. One which sometimes feels like a different world. Of course it's inevitable but I have had a lifetime of her presence and have found it reassuring to have such continuity throughout my life.

I’m really surprised at all the people replying to this comment and saying, “Death doesn’t work this way!”

In fact, there are a huge amount of studies on the death-postponement effect, or “deferred demise.” There are studies that contradict each other about whether Asian women die more right after the Harvest Moon festival, but the “newer” studies said:
“In a commentary published with the new reports, Ellen L. Idler and Stanislav Kasl, both of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., argue that there is still reason to suspect that deaths occur less frequently before major religious holidays than after them. In a 1992 study of elderly residents of New Haven, Conn., Idler and Kasl reported a death-postponement pattern for observant Jews around Yom Kippur and Passover and for observant Christians around Christmas and Easter.”

Unfortunately, large scale populations studies can only look at deaths around holidays in observant populations. They can’t look at every person who “held on” an extra week for a relative to arrive from a long distance, or to reach some personal life milestone, and then died right afterward, but there are plenty of these anecdotes as well. We cannot say what is of vital importance to each person. If a woman has devoted her whole life to public service, maybe she did hang on until the worst prime minister (in her opinion) in years was out?

But if you believe that personal will doesn’t affect death, you’re very much mistaken. I mean, me, personally, I’m hanging on to see who the next James Bond is. 🙂

Fascinating, 5Years. This confirms something that I have always surmised from anecdotal evidence.

In the same way that high adrenaline levels can help you stave off illness - just think about the number of times you come down with a cold on the first day of your holidays - both people and some animals can to some extent "time" their departures. Of course we're not talking deferring death by years, but certainly I have felt that weeks and possibly months.
