The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

Nicolas Witchell sounds emotional.

I thought the same, sounds like he is choking back tears.

Ryder68 · 08/09/2022 14:07

Yes, if she passes while in Balmoral, she will be moved to Hollyrood House and remain in state there. Her remains would then travel down by train to London to Buckingham Palace and a second train apparently would follow this first train to remove flowers thrown onto the track. This is part of the "London Bridge" process (the funeral arrangements for Her Majesty's passing).

That just set me off crying. Queen for all my 68 years.

Huw Edwards on the
BBC got his black tie on already

Nick Witchell has a blue tie with orange dots.

But he's saying we should be concerned.

Is Anne in Balmoral also, and what about Andy and Edward? She has four kids. But maybe they are already there.

It sounds ominous, and we are being prepared for sure. As with anyone, what would you wish for them but a peaceful pain free death surrounded by your family.

Anne is already there, she was in Scotland on engagements already. Andrew and Edward on their way.

The signers on BBC news are all in full back attire.

Why was Harry touring the UK?

The queen has been part of everyon'es lives on here in one way or another, and it feels like the end of an era.

In what way has she been a meaningful part of your average person's daily life?

I suppose it’s a bit like a local landmark you see most days just vanishing. There’s nothing to miss in terms of direct effects on your life, but it’s a shame and feels like the end of an era.

Bruising is usually from having an IV line.

I did wonder (with no medical training whatsoever) if it was that.

Why was Harry touring the UK?

He was in Germany for invictus was he not?

he was in the UK last week to visit a charity.

youmakemesigh · 08/09/2022 14:09

I think that Balmoral was her safe place and so she would be happy to pass away there. I suspect in death as in life, she will however have a funeral in London.

"The Duchess of Cambridge has remained in Windsor as Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are on their first full day at their new school,
Kensington Palace has said"

WTF? Do they not have nannies?

Maybe wants to be there for her own children when their great grandmother passes?

So selfish...

I think the Duchess looking after children when a close relative dies and not a nanny, is what every mother would do. You wouldn't want Prince George etc to find out from another source other than their mother.

Their lives will change, not just from their great grandma dying but their day to day.

I think it is v imminent particularly if Harry and Meghan have already landed.

I feel v sad. She's a connection to my grandparents and a society that I remember growing up in. One which sometimes feels like a different world. Of course it's inevitable but I have had a lifetime of her presence and have found it reassuring to have such continuity throughout my life.

This!

thenewduchessoflapland · 08/09/2022 14:09

Well shit;apparently Meghan and Harry have cancelled their plans and are on their way to be with the queen;that's pretty big;it looks like the same process that happened with Prince Philip.Thoughts are with the family. It's very concerning. If it happens then I hope her passing is peaceful.

He really does-especially just there at the end of his piece

Twizbe · 08/09/2022 14:10

Correspondent at BP in somber colours.

12:20 announcement made, in time for lunchtime news.

Any other news will be around 5:30 I think in time for the 6pm news

Perhaps there could be a separate 'i don't give a fuck' thread for people who can't possibly breathe without saying it

There's enough melodrama and madness on this thread as it is thank you.

That thread would be pulled after 0.03 seconds. MN very sensitive to opinions about the RF.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 14:10

"Maybe wants to be there for her own children when their great grandmother passes?"

I guess each to their own but personally I would have just gone up there and got the help to shuttle the kids up to join me after school

lasvegasherewe · 08/09/2022 14:11

I'm not a royalist at all but I do like the Queen and feeling somber hearing this news.

KittyCatsby · 08/09/2022 14:12

With reports of the immediate family on their way. Perhaps she has already sadly passed but the family have to be there before it can be announced.

It would be very bad protocol for them to be in a plane or car when if it was.

NorthernMountainCaribou · 08/09/2022 14:12

It seems bittersweet she is at Balmoral, and that William and Harry are now at Balmoral. Where they all were when Diana died. Wonder how triggering this may be for them dealing with such intense grief in the same place. Or maybe it will be comforting.

Andrew, Edward and William are on their way as are the Sussexs. Camilla, Charles and Anne are already there.

Announcement is now imminent
