The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

Its possible that she has had a stroke or something else has happened, it doesn't necessarily mean her death is imminent. She was well enough to meet the PM only on Monday although her hands were really bruised.

Unless I have missed it, nobody has been 'gleeful' at all. More a sense of not understanding how folk can be so emotionally invested in someone they have not actually met to the point of having to 'prepare their children' that a frail 96 year old public figure might pass away soon. I appreciate she is the head of the church of England but she is not an actual god.

This!
I have seen no one being gleeful, that would be sick.
And for her family her death will be very sad.
But I do not understand strangers being devastated at the news that a 96 year old stranger they have seen on the TV and in the media looks close to death.

Emilyjayne9421 · 08/09/2022 13:59

I feel rather sad about this. I am not a huge royalist but I’ve always liked the Queen. She has been the rock of our country for a long time. I think we are being prepared sadly. The place wouldn’t be announcing this if it wasn’t extremely serious.

Hiphophippityskip1 · 08/09/2022 13:57

There seems to be an unspoken implication in the reports and on social media and twitter that perhaps she has already passed away but the press are being held back from reporting it until the family have had time to gather and government called together.

I think you’re spot on.

FilePhoto · 08/09/2022 13:59

I've got a friend who is the same age as the Queen. She's very proud of that.

Her health has also taken a turn for the worse.
I'm unexpectedly upset at the thought of losing them both.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 14:00

I just have this horrible feeling that she has gone already, but that they arent telling us until the family have all been gathered and have had a few hours to process it together 🥺

It feels like we are losing the nation's Grandma.

Oh lord, it's the People's Princess all over again

Show one gleeful message?
I see people expressing opinions on the monarchy in general. Nothing more.

I have already seen gleeful and satirical comments on social media. I was making a general comment on this phenomenon.

But regarding this thread in particular, I also don’t understand being unkind about others’ sadnesses. So you disagree with their politics, why do you need to seek out people who are feeling pain and belittle their experience?

Isonthecase · 08/09/2022 14:00

I'm surprised by how sad I feel about this. Whether you agree with royalty or not she has really done her best for the country and I really respect her sense of duty.

rocketfromthecrypt · 08/09/2022 14:00

It's going to be a huge moment for Britain. She's been queen for all of most of our lives.

I feel very said. She's the nations granny really. I was named after her and will be very sad when it happens.

They won't announce anything until all the family have made it to balmoral.

cheninblanc · 08/09/2022 14:01

I wander if she's already gone and this is part of the operation when the time came. Either way it's very sad they are still a family losing someone they love

thereisonlyoneofme · 08/09/2022 14:01

Huw Edwards on the
BBC got his black tie on already

Notjusta · 08/09/2022 14:01

The new BBC signer is also all in black.

Me too, I'm very much anti monarchy but I've actually had a wee cry!

QuebecBagnet · 08/09/2022 14:01

I don’t mean to be so morbid but do you think she’s died and the bbc knkw but for some reason the official announcement is being put on hold. Because otherwise it’s a bit presumptuous for Huw Edwards tk be wearing a black tie

Not usually one for conspiracies but yes, the way Witchell's talking I can well believe it's already happened.

IHateWasps · 08/09/2022 14:02

Perhaps there could be a separate 'i don't give a fuck' thread for people who can't possibly breathe without saying it

There's enough melodrama and madness on this thread as it is thank you.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 14:02

Balmoral is in a lovely location
I feel so sad. It reminds me of when my own parents died too. It's the end of an era

Knuddlebär9 · 08/09/2022 14:02

I agree with @Tierne from watching BBC news, Hugh seemed flustered when saying it was 2pm. Harry and Meg have just arrived. It's sad

Nicely backtracked.
nobody is being ‘unkind’. She’s not your family. Don’t be so patronising.

OneFrenchEgg · 08/09/2022 14:03

Well it's sad on a human level, and I don't think age makes it easier in the moment of a loved one dying - that comes with reflection and time. My dad dying when he was 40 has been a wound that hasn't healed whereas his lovely dad (who tried so hard to step into his shoes for me) dying at 90 has been easier to carry.

I don't feel personally upset or sad. But I can see others do, which is fair enough. We all have different levels of emotional attachment to people and things.

I am very glad for my Netflix and Prime subscriptions on a selfish level as there will be constant coverage/tributes/footage etc for weeks.

LucilleDarlingtonUnexpectedly · 08/09/2022 14:03

When someone has been there in the media almost every day over your lifetime as some sort of constant care taker of the country, someone that you’ve sung about (anthem) since childhood, it’s easy to see how people can feel attached.
