The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

BBC News have scrapped their usual schedule.
Their royal correspondent isn't in black yet.

Just joining the thread to say how very sorry I am to hear the news.

Well as someone who is sat here beside my mother who is dying, I have nothing but sympathy for them all.

I’m so sorry.
I hope it’s as gentle and stress free as possible for both of you.

Elderemo · 08/09/2022 13:56

Huw Edwards in black tie but Nicholas Witchell isn't. I'm not taking that as a sign, I do hope she can stick around a while longer yet.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 13:56

It's not looking good
96 is an amazing age though , an incredible life.

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 08/09/2022 13:56

Not liking the cameras at Balmoral. Feels very ghoulish:(

I don’t see why they’d take her to Norfolk either. Royal train to London for lying in State before a Westminster abbey funeral would be the most obvious thing to do.

I believe she would lie in state at Holyroodhouse and her funeral would be at St Giles Catherdral.

All terribly sad today.

Can't see that happening. St Giles is far too small, the street are narrow and cobbled, there's no way dignitaries from all over the world would get there, the sheer amount of press etc.

Edinburgh wouldn't be able to cope with it.

JustLyra · 08/09/2022 13:56

Sky news just said that the Sussexes are on their way to Scotland as well.

BaggaChip · 08/09/2022 13:50

I can’t understand people being gleeful about another human dying.

I hope she’s comfortable.

Unless I have missed it, nobody has been 'gleeful' at all. More a sense of not understanding how folk can be so emotionally invested in someone they have not actually met to the point of having to 'prepare their children' that a frail 96 year old public figure might pass away soon. I appreciate she is the head of the church of England but she is not an actual god.

JudgeJ · 08/09/2022 13:56

Harry's en route to Scotland apparently,

BBC1 has cleared its schedule for the rest of the day, it's news for the rest of the day according to the TV guide

The plans to take her by royal train to London if she dies in Scotland have been known for years.

The only question is if it goes from Aberdeen or if it goes from Edinburgh via her lying in Holyrood first.

I was too short in my message, The last I knew, she’d lie in State in St Giles in Edinburgh first, she won’t go straight on the train to London

QuebecBagnet · 08/09/2022 13:57

Sky news just said that the Sussexes are on their way to Scotland as well.

This really is it then, isn't it? I don't see they'd fly if it wasn't the end.

TrueNorthernBird · 08/09/2022 13:57

Rolling news on BBC. Presenters on both major channels in black.

They have been told it's very imminent - these protocols are entrenched in live programing and have been signed off by Buck House (as in, 'you can't 'create news' out of HM being ill. You can only go to rolling news when we authorise it and say 'go'').

Andrew and Edward are now on their way too.

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 13:57

It feels like a very decisive end of an era.
It has just been reported that Harry is on his way to Scotland.

Hiphophippityskip1 · 08/09/2022 13:57

There seems to be an unspoken implication in the reports and on social media and twitter that perhaps she has already passed away but the press are being held back from reporting it until the family have had time to gather and government called together.

BBC have said the Sussexes are on their way to Balmoral.

That's it. It's serious.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/09/2022 13:57

Harry and Meghan are on their way, so I'm sure they will be welcomed.

I actually think this will unite the country for a time. The Tories and populace will come together and grieve. There'll be another gushy outpouring of grief (think Diana) with thousands of people laying wreaths outside the gates of BP. The Tories will re invoke discourses of patriotic nationalism and use these strategically.

Meanwhile, news about the cost of living crisis will be backgrounded; the poorest will continue to have to make the decision between heat and eat and the energy companies will continue to reap high profits - but it won't be front page news.

Yup

JustLyra · 08/09/2022 13:58

I believe she would lie in state at Holyroodhouse and her funeral would be at St Giles Catherdral.

The Queen’s funeral will not be held anywhere other than London.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 13:58

@WakeUpAndBeAwesome
Agreed. I think whether consciously or subconsciously, the Queens presence has tempered much animosity towards certain behaviours within the RF. Out of respect for/deference to her and the figure she is, people have accepted things that they will possibly not hold back on once she has gone.

William and Kate might need to live much more humbly than they do.
Harry and Meghan may need to be stripped of titles and income.
Andrew may need more of a comeuppance.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 08/09/2022 13:58

Extraordinary that she was able to meet and talk in a professional capacity yesterday and now this!
