The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

Well if she's this ill, she's to be congratulated for seeing off that a*sehole Boris Johnson a couple of days ago. Kudos to her.

I was just there. This is bollocks

'You could see the faces of concern within the House of Commons, whilst MPs listened to the statements on energy prices and bills' help from the prime minister.

There were notes being handed around, the prime minister was briefed, as were the leader of the opposition and the speaker - and people shortly after that left the chamber.'

I read it once that Windsor was her favorite castle. Only what I've read!!
I've never met any of them.
It's sad news though , it is sounding bad on the news.

BaggaChip · 08/09/2022 13:50

I can’t understand people being gleeful about another human dying.

I hope she’s comfortable.

Elderemo · 08/09/2022 13:50

I don’t see why they’d take her to Norfolk either. Royal train to London for lying in State before a Westminster abbey funeral would be the most obvious thing to do.

I believe she would lie in state at Holyroodhouse and her funeral would be at St Giles Catherdral.

All terribly sad today.

miserablecat · 08/09/2022 13:50

As someone who's lost both parents (neither anywhere near as old as the queen - they were 64 and 80) I feel incredibly sad for the family who have clearly been given advice to come and see her, and who will have their grief "reported" on, commented on and photographed.
Obviously she has lived to an old age in (presumably) good health but it won't be less sad for her family to lose her (and collectively she is a known and mostly loved and respected public figure)

I don't know aboout general mourning rules but there are slightly different plans for if the Queen dies in Scotland than England (see Operation Unicorn vs Operation London Bridge).

You may notice that the operation unicorn page has been removed today: www.scotsman.com/news/national/what-are-operation-unicorn-operation-london-bridge-and-operation-spring-tide-the-secret-plan-outlining-what-would-happen-if-the-queen-dies-in-scotland-and-what-happens-next-3827727

Does sound like palliative care.

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 13:51

I can only admire the fact that even at the end she stood by the fire doing her duty to the country. Only yesterday.
What a dignified example she is to us all.

I feel sick and tearful, I think the country will change massively once she was gone- it will be another Brexit moment. Those who are royalist and those who would prefer a republic.

It will be historic and will be an unsettling time, in an already shit storm of a couple of years passed and to come.

However, I do hope she is a lot like my elderly relatives, who when drs have say to come to the hospital, they have recovered for another few years.

I haven't seen any posts on here that fit that description.

I can’t think of any different Scottish mourning rules either.

I don’t see why they’d take her to Norfolk either. Royal train to London for lying in State before a Westminster abbey funeral would be the most obvious thing to do.

That isn’t the plan for her death in Scotland-I have knowledge in a work capacity

Show one gleeful message?
I see people expressing opinions on the monarchy in general. Nothing more.

I personally will be devastated when she dies. I met her only once in my lifetime. She to me is the very epitome of strength, grace, steadfastness and her resolute determination to serve our country and the commonwealth can not be compared.

The Queen is the most iconic woman in the whole world.
She needs no introduction, and everyone on the planet knows who she is.
There is no one that compares to her, no one.

Our wonderful Queen is dying, and I am feeling truly devastated

Really well said. I have never met her but she has been Queen for my whole life and I am in my 60s. People feel sad when rock stars/celebrities die. For me this is a 100 times worse.

Huw Edwards in a black tie!

SunnieShine · 08/09/2022 13:52

I have the utmost respect for the Queen and hope she is comfortable and knows how many support her.

AuntMasha · 08/09/2022 13:53

I can’t help but feel very sad, despite not being a keen monarchist at heart. It will be the end of an era. She is an extraordinary figure, dedicated and dutiful to her role, whatever you think of the institution in general.

Huw Edwards in a black tie!

I was just coming to say that.

The signer is also all in black. Anything will be announced alongside the usual news bulletins. So around 6pm.

@GalesThisMorningRealistically this is not going to tear the nation apart

I dunno. The nation is likely to suffer a psychological crisis and shock imo.

We’ve had numerous prime ministers but only one head of state.

Royalist or not, you can’t deny the stability that the Head of State, Queen, has offered for 70 years.

I’m concerned about the instability that may follow her death.

Charles isn’t as popular. People don’t like Camilla as much due to the history with Diana etc.

William and Kate are popular, but that may change if they were to have a coronation to become monarchs. The world is a different place to 1950s and meritocracy has more valuable in society (this may count for more during a cost of living crisis when less people believe in divine appointments).

The next in lines’ claim to the crown may not be as strong or viable as in previous generations. The monarch is also Head of the Church. If people don’t believe in God in the same way as before, then that will impact the next coronation(s).

My DP married a few days before the Queen and Prince Philip . . . when they celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary they received a beautiful card from H.M. which my DM, in particular, cherished. My DP died within days of each other shortly after their anniversary so I wrote to Buckingham Palace to thank H.M. for the card and I received a beautiful letter, so sensitive, which I will always treasure. We live close to a military base so HM has visited quite a few times over the years and I have very happy memories of HM. Thoughts & prayers to all the Royal Family

That's so lovely 😍

The plans to take her by royal train to London if she dies in Scotland have been known for years.

The only question is if it goes from Aberdeen or if it goes from Edinburgh via her lying in Holyrood first.

What are the Scottish rules around mourning? I never knew we mourned differently up here

me neither. Although I do remember the days when women didn’t go to the graveside. Or maybe it’s to do with taking a cord - I don’t think they do that in England.

why would she be moved to Sandringham?
She loves Balmoral, she comes every year.

Yes, if she passes while in Balmoral, she will be moved to Hollyrood House and remain in state there. Her remains would then travel down by train to London to Buckingham Palace and a second train apparently would follow this first train to remove flowers thrown onto the track. This is part of the "London Bridge" process (the funeral arrangements for Her Majesty's passing).

I'm seeing that Huw Edwards is wearing a black suit and black tie already, but Nicolas Witchell is in his blue tie.
