The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

I am not a monarchist, and I know the Queen has not been without her mistakes and imperfections (none of us are!), but I do know she's done her very best according to her own high morals and standards of duty. I honour her for that.

This would be a very bad time for the nation to lose the one national figure still standing who embodies such things.

On a personal note, my mother lost her last member of her family earlier this year, and I know what a blow it will be to her if the queen passes as well. It's increasingly hard for some of the more elderly not to feel their time in the world has passed.

antelopevalley · 08/09/2022 13:45

@Festoonlights I am glad your youngest child has a better sense of perspective than you do.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 13:45

What time was the last announcement on her actual health status?

Escarpahell · 08/09/2022 13:45

I think it'll be today or tomorrow, the family are all there or on their way.

RampantIvy · 08/09/2022 13:45

I don't understand how anyone can 'be sad' about a stranger so distant they may as well be a character in a book.

Your inability to read the room is astounding @NovaDeltas. Can I suggest that you read some posts on this thread so that you can understand a little more. Do you even know what empathy means?

My DP married a few days before the Queen and Prince Philip . . . when they celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary they received a beautiful card from H.M. which my DM, in particular, cherished. My DP died within days of each other shortly after their anniversary so I wrote to Buckingham Palace to thank H.M. for the card and I received a beautiful letter, so sensitive, which I will always treasure. We live close to a military base so HM has visited quite a few times over the years and I have very happy memories of HM. Thoughts & prayers to all the Royal Family

Wow.

To be honest, I am not sure if this is satire?? Surely nobody is this emotionally invested???

What are the Scottish rules around mourning? I never knew we mourned differently up here.

@LookItsMeAgain I'm in Scotland. What are the Scottish rules around mourning?? Do we do it differently to England?

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 08/09/2022 13:45

How would things be different in Charles was King? Surely nothing in our lives will change with a different monarch?

I'm keeping an eager eye on the news and twitter for updates

They won't make the official announcement until all the world leaders have been informed.

me neither. Although I do remember the days when women didn’t go to the graveside. Or maybe it’s to do with taking a cord - I don’t think they do that in England.

why would she be moved to Sandringham?
She loves Balmoral, she comes every year.

NorthernMountainCaribou · 08/09/2022 13:46

It sounds very much like palliative care at home. The fact that the family are all heading over and she is not in hospital speaks volumes.

How incredible she is and has been for this nation. The effort it must have taken just days ago to be dressed and made up so beautifully, to stand when meeting with Liz Truss.

This poster is.

All the people posting horrible remarks, you need to take a long hard look at yourselves. How would you feel if people were sniping about your relative

jesusjoan · 08/09/2022 13:47

Hope she told Boris he's a prick the other day.

I can’t think of any different Scottish mourning rules either.

I don’t see why they’d take her to Norfolk either. Royal train to London for lying in State before a Westminster abbey funeral would be the most obvious thing to do.

EbbyEbs · 08/09/2022 13:48

I’m not a royalist at all but I will feel genuinely sad when she passes.

Flapjacker48 · 08/09/2022 13:48

There have been plans in place for years for what happens when the Queen dies. All approved by her of course. Scotland was one of the trickier ones as her body would be returned to London by train but it is all set out.

Oh give over.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 13:48

Maybe the different Scottish mourning rules is to do with the time between death and burial?

SleeplessInEngland · 08/09/2022 13:49

I actually think this will unite the country for a time

It could go either way. On paper the queen, the one steadfast constant in our lives, dying as everything else seems to be falling apart isn't ideal.

But we got through covid, so perhaps that's melodramatic.

NovaDeltas · 08/09/2022 12:48

Precisely.
When she does go we'll have the outpouring of public grief from people who probably don't give a toss about their own family.

notonl · 08/09/2022 13:49

Met police are on standby, most told not to leave work. Almost definitely due to this.

PizzaFunghi · 08/09/2022 13:49

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/09/2022 13:37

Oh come on, coming home from
school all excited to tell your mum and dad about your first day to be told your dad's had to go away because your great-grandma is very poorly would be miserable for any child!

This is a bit much. Honestly, loads of children start new schools when their parents aren't around. Yes ,losing their great grandmother will be difficult and sad for them, as will the constant media attention now, but it really doesn't have much to do with starting a new school when you're already in a strange position like they are.

Besides, I think the photos are from yesterday, as they were on the news apps last night.

LadyFromage · 08/09/2022 13:49

I don't know aboout general mourning rules but there are slightly different plans for if the Queen dies in Scotland than England (see Operation Unicorn vs Operation London Bridge).
