The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

@Oysterbabe
Imagine if the last official thing you did after 70 years of service was meet Liz Truss

Doesn't William become Prince of Wales on Charles' accession to the throne?

I don’t think it’s on accession, here’s what wiki says

The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

The Queen does feel like the nation's Grandmother.
Someone constant in our lives.

Thank you for your warm and respectful posts, of course not everyone will be affected, but for the tens/hundreds of millions of people that adored her this really is a very difficult day.

Well said!

JustLyra · 08/09/2022 13:40

Edward and Sophie are travelling to Balmoral. As is Andrew.

Anne is in Scotland and going to balmoral.

Thats all of the senior royals going. That’s never happened before.

I don't understand how anyone can 'be sad' about a stranger so distant they may as well be a character in a book.

Yet people of social media 'follow' vacuous strangers for some reason and get involved in the trivia of their lives.

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 13:40

Princesss Anne was already there.
Prince Andrew is also there.
It seems all of the Queen's children are there already.

Yeah her hand was black the other day so she’s defo had a cannula in there, bless her. I’ll be sad to see her go, so smily and reassuring

I am feeling very sorry for the Cambridge children whom have only just started a new school.

I understand that this type of thing is always sad but there are so many millions of children in the world who have to endure all sorts of hardships. I get that there is no limit to how many people you can feel sorry for but the thought that it’s crossed you mind to comment that you feel sorry for these hugely fortunate children is really strange to me.

I mean... Very old lady dies in the company of her family? Sad I guess if you knew her, but...

Realistically this is not going to tear the nation apart, devastate our children, or make our already shit winter worse. It's about as sad as your favourite author or pop start dying really. And for most of us about as relevant.

It might provide a good time to start having a conversation about the best use of funds, and if we really do subscribe to the idea of divine appointment.

No, but as a republican I can appreciate this is more symbolic. It feels like the end of a chapter, that started well in the country and has ended on quite a desperate note. Sorry to be so negative but does anyone have a sort of pessimism over the state of the country, like our best days are behind us?

antelopevalley · 08/09/2022 13:40

We had this in the few days before Philip died.

UnnecessaryFennel · 08/09/2022 13:41

Meghan still lving rent-free in so many racists' heads, I see.

Anyway. I am a republican but the Queen dying will be a seismic event for this country. I hope she's comfortable and peaceful.

Something I noticed is that on the hand she extended to Liz Truss, the back of her hand was heavily bruised. It was something that I remember from when my 80-something grandmother was poorly and in her last days, she bruised so easily.

I wonder if it's just a matter of time and that they are trying to get things in order before making the announcement??? I'm not wishing the woman dead but it may move more smoothly if Charles is up in Balmoral or if they want to move her to Sandringham (so not having to adhere to Scottish rules around mourning).

I think you'd be lucky to get away with just 2 days of national mourning here @PremiumPiglet . Her death will impact on many many countries as she is their head of state too.

What are the Scottish rules around mourning? I never knew we mourned differently up here.

"God help us this autumn and winter"

What on earth has it got to do with autumn and winter?

AngeloMysterioso · 08/09/2022 13:42

BBC just announced Princess Anne is at Balmoral and the rest of HM’s children are on their way…

SleeplessInEngland · 08/09/2022 13:42

Paradoxically the next few days of 24 hour news talking endlessly with no actual updates whatsoever are going to be really boring. But I understand why they felt the need to prime everyone.

StrawberriesAndCreamPlease · 08/09/2022 13:42

They are just waiting to announce it.

I agree. She is their great-grandmother. They still have their parents and grandparents alive. Many people never meet or were too young to remember their great-grandparents. Knowing your great grandparents and being able to have a relationship with them is fortunate.

I have been preparing my children - as I did not want this to feel like another thunder bolt (like covid) in their lives. As the fallout of the Queen passing will be bigger for many people than even covid. She has been our rock, our steadfast rock in all of the troubles for so many decades, no matter what happened we always had the Queen to rely on.

I introduced the idea to the dc that the Queen wasn't well and she was getting old, and it might be her time soon. My youngest immediately asked whether they will get a day off school Confused
Every silver lining I suppose

Wow.

Twitter thinks she has sadly died. Apparently there are various notes being passed around the Commons and MPs making a hasty exit.

I was just there. This is bollocks

Why is she at Balmoral? Such a long way for all the "VIPs" who need to visit . I didn't think it was a particularly favourite place of hers?

She loves Scotland and I would bet it's the place she would choose to die.

ICanHideButICantRun · 08/09/2022 13:43

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 12:48

She looked so frail in that photo on Tuesday.
It's a shame she isn't at Windsor her favorite place at the moment.

But how would you know which is her favourite place?

slippysept · 08/09/2022 13:44

I actually think this will unite the country for a time. The Tories and populace will come together and grieve. There'll be another gushy outpouring of grief (think Diana) with thousands of people laying wreaths outside the gates of BP. The Tories will re invoke discourses of patriotic nationalism and use these strategically.

Meanwhile, news about the cost of living crisis will be backgrounded; the poorest will continue to have to make the decision between heat and eat and the energy companies will continue to reap high profits - but it won't be front page news.

it’s not bollocks. Every political report was saying it!
