The Queen is under 'medical supervision'

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 12:44

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace says.

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," they said in a statement.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Her immediate family has been informed.

The announcement comes after the Queen, 96, pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.

Breaking news BBC

We very much hope she is okay, it made me feel sad to read this. I think the line her immediate family have been informed was a worrying line.

It feels like we are losing the nation's Grandma.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/09/2022 13:30

I’ve never met her, her passing will not affect my life in anyway.
However, I had felt a moment of tearfulness when I saw the news. Maybe it’s the menopause, maybe I’m tired and need a cuppa but it sort of reminds me of when my elderly, frail mum was nearing the end. You could see bruising on the Queens hand the other day, my Mum had that too. I will never speak badly of her and regardless of what people think of the Monarchy, there will be grown adults (and younger members) today in that family who will have that awful, churning feeling in their stomachs.

I agree. I’m Irish, have lived in Ireland all my life so her passing will obviously not affect me in any shape or form but I feel sad hearing the news. She seems like wonderful lady & I really admire her.

You know none of them would put you out if you were on fire, right?

Doesn't William become Prince of Wales on Charles' accession to the throne?

RampantIvy · 08/09/2022 13:35

From the BBC

There is a degree of seriousness that we have not seen before, the very fact that the statement was issued when the palace is so reticent about making any commentary on the Queen's health.

The phrasing of the statement, that the Queen’s doctors are concerned about her health and she remains under medical supervision, and the movement of the most serious members of the Royal Family towards Balmoral, towards the Queen, all of those indicate a clear degree of concern for the health of the 96-year-old Queen.

We're not going to get great clarity from the palace, because they do not reveal the details of the health of senior members of the Royal Family.

But the fact that the family is gathering at Balmoral is an indication of the seriousness of the situation.

RiftGibbon · 08/09/2022 13:01

I feel like this too.
We don't need the Royal family. They may bring in income from tourism, but they cost loads and don't have a purpose. I'm sure some of them are nice enough but the amount of sycophantic drivel on social media is pathetic.
Ultimately, an elderly lady is in declining health. Sad to see but not anything unusual.

As an aside, why do people always daughter 'sadly died? Is there likely to be an occasion when someone has happily died?

Could you not have used some manner & just scrolled past. There are plenty of other threads to have your day about the monarchy.

Is Harry still in Germany? Hopefully he'll fly over if it's imminent.

No. He’ll become Duke of Cornwall on Charles’ accession.

He’ll only be Prince of Wales when/if his father creates him as such. It’s not automatic.

Oysterbabe · 08/09/2022 13:36

Imagine if the last official thing you did after 70 years of service was meet Liz Truss. How depressing.
It will be a very sad day when she goes, she's a truly incredible woman.

This is a public forum. You don’t get to police it.

Even if that were true (which I would question), that doesn't mean you can't feel sorry for children losing their great grandmother.

Oh come on, coming home from
school all excited to tell your mum and dad about your first day to be told your dad's had to go away because your great-grandma is very poorly would be miserable for any child!

LookItsMeAgain · 08/09/2022 13:37

I have to agree @Alsonification . I'm Irish too and she has been the British Head of State for my entire life. It will be a very different UK when Charles takes the throne.
So many people have only ever grown up in a world where Her Majesty has been on the throne. There has been no other Head of State they would have known.

I spend a lot of time reporting racist post unfortunately. Maybe MNHQ should try banning the posters who keep posting obvious racist crap. I see the same names, and usually know which posters to scroll past.

Fair enough. I wasn't sure.

GalesThisMorning · 08/09/2022 13:38

I mean... Very old lady dies in the company of her family? Sad I guess if you knew her, but...

Realistically this is not going to tear the nation apart, devastate our children, or make our already shit winter worse. It's about as sad as your favourite author or pop start dying really. And for most of us about as relevant.

It might provide a good time to start having a conversation about the best use of funds, and if we really do subscribe to the idea of divine appointment.

Festoonlights · 08/09/2022 13:38

The Queen does feel like the nation's Grandmother.
Someone constant in our lives.

Thank you for your warm and respectful posts, of course not everyone will be affected, but for the tens/hundreds of millions of people that adored her this really is a very difficult day.
